Yeah, the story in general is pretty interesting. Though it is true that it has a rough start because the developers thought it would be a standard gacha game. This is why the story of singularities 1-5 is pretty basic and mostly carried by the servants introduced. However, the game became a massive success and from singularity 6 and onwards they started to develop the story seriously. The author of Fate/Stay Night has written the story of the most important singularities which raised the quality inmensely. As for the MC, yes, he is bland. After all, is a self-insert for the gacha game. However, he eventually becomes his own character. So much stuff happens in the story for the MC to remain the same honestly. The next thing you should watch are the Camelot movies. This would be the 6th singularity and the one where the quality of the story and writing started going up. The anime skips singularity 1-5 cause they are weak story-wise and mostly self-contained, still, you wont be too lost 👌

I'm really looking forward to seeing your reactions to the 2 Camelot movies (6th Singularity), Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia (7th Singularity), & the last movie! Babylonia is so hype I think you'll really love it!

Is there a good YouTube recap or something I can watch for some context before Camelot?

Winterborn

Eh Camelot is when the writing got good anyway, so you won't be missing out on much. They give a little context overview at the beginning of the movie if that helps.

Camelot, Babylonia, Solomon is where shit gets real. Can't wait for them to animate the lost belts if they do
