Metamorphoses v3 (Patreon)

My latest revision of Metamorphoses is now available!

...not the full, restored cut, but rather the French release of Sanrio's Winds of Change. The different names & edits will never not be confusing.

What sets this version apart from the previous two, is it's decoded from RF captures, resulting in a sharper image. It's the highest quality result that I can get from the tape that I have. One caveat is that that VHS-Decode software doesn't currently support SECAM, so the color had to be extracted from my older video captures. It's not perfect, but then again neither is SECAM, from what I've seen so far.

What I'm really anxious for now, is to get my hands on a copy of the Swedish release of the film. From the sample I've seen, it looks as though the full, original 35mm frame was dumped to VHS as-is, with no cropping or letterboxing. This means it can simply be stretched from 4x3 to its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. It would represent a more visually complete version of the film than even the French release, and at possibly the highest resolution.

Obtaining the tape could be a long waiting game, unfortunately. I know one person who has it, but he's not currently able to capture it, and asking him to let me borrow it might be too much.

If I do ever get a copy of that tape, my French version will still be useful - the Swedish release has baked-in subtitles, which the French version can be used to fill in.
