Since I'm posting about animation, here's the new HD render of my old Mary-Anne test!

Re-rendering this also may have convinced me to focus more on game quality. Nothing seemed to work! Old plugins needed to be hunted down and reinstalled, her leg rig had been screwed up somehow, the renderer kept crashing... I should have been to just hit the render button and let the computer do its work, but instead it took me days just to get it to a point where I could hit the render button!

Mary-Anne test animation HD

This is a short animation I did a few years back, to test out my character's rig. This was just the first third of the original idea, but problems with the rig prevented me from moving forward.

This is some pretty good animation, tell me, are you planning on doing A show eventually?

That's always been the plan, for the better part of the past decade. It's taken me this long to scale down my ambitions, though.

I remember the original animation from back-when. Looked good then, looks great now!

Does that mean voice acting? if so , Could you describe the voices of the comic cast.

jklind

If all goes well, there will be voice acting. As far as what they'll sound like, I'm not so sure. I know what they sound like in my head, but haven't really thought of who they sound like. I guess Daisy would sound kinda like Cameron Diaz. Mary would sound like Ellie-Mae Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies, accent and all. Violet I'm not so sure about, beyond maybe having a lateral lisp and being energetic. For Rose, I'm thinking Sarah Silverman. Mercy... maybe Lisa Lampanelli, only without the Brooklyn accent; or perhaps one of Tress Macneille's voices, like Mom from Futurama.

The hair is a little weird, but that might be because I'm used to seeing stuff by big budget productions like the blizzard cinematics, pixar, and such. So that doesn't count. I do see a couple instances of black on her right breast though. Other than that, it looks really good.

Yeah, there's a number of things that went wrong this time. The hair wouldn't render with any lighting, only an alpha channel, but by that point I was too exhausted to fix it. The hair plugin was pretty limited, too - apart from styling the hair and adjusting dynamic properties, it offers no control whatsoever. Another problem is it doesn't let you adjust how the hair fades out towards the ends, so long hair ends up looking shorter than it's supposed to. Too bad Maya's current built-in hair tools don't exist for my version. Those black spots are another issue I couldn't figure out. That didn't happen the previous time I'd rendered this, so I don't know why it happened now...
