You had been playing this point and click for a while. You had so many items, and now you were stuck. You had tried all the combinations, in all the different places, and none of them had worked. It was frustrating. You wanted to quit. Just shut the game down and give up.

You were wracking your thoughts one more time, trying to remember what you hadn’t done, when a voice you hadn’t heard before in the game flipped into your ears through your headphones. “So many items. So many combinations. And none of them are working, are they, sweetie?”

Your screen flickered, and your headphones began playing a sound – a tone – you couldn’t describe it, it was just… beautiful. Achingly beautiful. It left you frozen, unable, or unwilling to move, you couldn’t tell which. You couldn’t tell much of anything – your mind felt… Still.

“All these items, all these combinations, useless, just like your thoughts. It doesn’t matter how you arrange them, it’s all just gibberish to you now, isn’t that right, player?” The voice seemed to slice through the tangle that your thoughts had become.

Feeling your mind go from a jumble of thoughts to still emptiness felt incredible. You wanted to keep on listening. You had to. “That’s right. Hands on your keyboard, you’re going to be typing some lovely information for me. Don’t worry, it’s going to feel so good to obey.”
