Your partner has a game they want to play with you. It's really simple, honest!

“Hey babe, I’ve got a game to play with you.” Your partner sat down on the couch, next to you as they spoke. You smirked, pausing the movie you had been watching. “You know how we talked about being more spontaneous in our play? Well, this is that. Sort of.”
You met their gaze. “Okay, what’s the game?” You asked preparing for something complicated, probably with dice.
Their smile was eager. “It’s very easy. You’re already playing. You just have to look me in the eyes, and not blink.” They said. “Think you can do that?”
Suddenly very aware of your eyes, you focussed on not blinking, and asked “Okay, but how do I win?”
They took a moment to think, still looking you in the eyes. “Hrm, you want to win? Okay. You have to go one minute, looking into my eyes, and not blink, or close your own.”
“So, how long are we at so far?” You asked, trying not to notice the itch in one of your eyelids.
“Oh, silly me. I should start a timer!” They said, looking away, and grabbing their phone. “Okay, one minute, starting from… Now.” They pressed a button, the timer started.
You met their gaze again, confident. You could do this, it was effectively a staring contest, and you had always been great at those. “Was this an excuse to look at my eyes, love?” You asked.
They giggled. “More like getting you to look into mine. I know you love them.”
A sigh left your lips. “That’s true.” You did. The soft colours of their irises. The reflections of lights in the room.
“Just keep looking, babe. Focus on them. Focus on not blinking.” They said. You did as they asked. Focusing on not blinking, even accidentally. “You’re doing great, babe. Just staring into my eyes, not blinking at all. You’re holding those heavy eyelids open so well.”
You felt a soft flutter in your eyelids as they spoke. They were heavy. “Can you keep them open?” They asked. “Will you manage to last a minute? I know how heavy, and tired your eyes get when you look into my eyes for so long. It’s natural to want to close them.”
The fluttering grew more pronounced, but you tried to keep them open. Even though they felt like little weights had been attached to your eyelids. “That’s it. Heavier, and heavier, with every second. And soon, well, you won’t blink. They’ll close. But keep watching.”
It was such a struggle. So difficult. “Just keep watching. Soon you’ll hear the timer. Then you can close those heavy eyes for me. That’ll be your reward for winning. You can sink, just like you want to. In three. Two. One.” The timer went off. A soft chime, marking your descent.
