First uploaded on November 17th, 2016, my not-very-good review of Pokemon Sun and Moon! In this Patreon exclusive video, I not only watch the video and react to it, but also explain why it was deleted and why I don't do reviews anymore.

Honestly, while I'm not as critical towards Sun and Moon as some others are, from the perspective of someone who's played the series for 10 years, the review was pretty alright; it came off moreso as a "first impressions" type video to me and less of a review, which might've worked better for the style I feel you were trying to achieve here. I don't think the attempt to view the game as a standalone title was bad personally (I have to tell people this every time I defend Animal Crossing: New Horizons, lol), but it may have not come across in the critiques themselves super well, which could've led to the more negative reception overall. I wasn't a fan of nonlinearity in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as the levels didn't scale based on the order and taking on a level 40 gym at level 10 wasn't my idea of fun, but an RPG I've played recently that does have a fun concept of nonlinearity is Octopath Traveler II- not only is there not really a clear-cut order to do everything in, but you're given level recommendations for the objectives you have available, and there were very few times in the game I wasn't ready for multiple different objectives, not to mention a ton of other non-story areas to poke around in, so I had a lot more fun with that concept of nonlinearity and more attachment to my playthrough as a result. Can definitely recommend it for that reason among many, many more if you're in the mood for a turn-based JRPG. Reviews can definitely be a stressful process, especially if there's going to be a lot of eyes on it, but if it's something you ever look into again in the future, it's definitely important to just get how you honestly feel about a game out there first and foremost. A list of criteria isn't necessarily a bad thing; in fact, it's a decent reference to have on-hand to reflect on the entirety of the experience and figure out what the most important talking points are, but personally someone telling me, for instance, "Playing Pikmin 4 is like getting to be in heaven for a little while!" and nothing else will tell me a lot more about their experience with the game than an "objective" checklist of what the game got right or wrong. You can't ever completely escape bias in a review, so I honestly think it's okay to embrace it at times! Anyways, hope you're feeling a bit better going into this next week, stay safe and play some fun games!
