Hello everyone!

I have this beautiful throwback set from my favorite photographer to work with, J Isobel De Lisle! This was taken years ago in her backyard in New Jersey.

Since then, I've actually explored a lot of New Jersey, and have found out a lot about the world there. There are surprisingly a lot of wetland and pine protections in New Jersey, and the more I've traveled, the more of these dense barren pines I've wandered into. I sort of forgot I could be in a place that I've always labeled dirty and miserable, and see beautiful crystal blue lakes, and beautiful forests.

The barren pine forests are ancient. They were formed after the ice age, and even covered more land than in New Jersey. They mostly appeared after lots of forest fires ravaged the land and made the soil acidic, and made other large fauna die, so they could thrive.

The Lenape people settled in what is now New Jersey, and used the barren pines as coal, and even learned control burns to make more coal to use as currency and trade. Blueberries and cranberries also run wild in these areas, which native people were great at cultivating. When settlers showed up, it was a food of choice, but also a lot of the barren pines became farm land. Bear and bobcats were run out of their natural habitat, but thankfully with the new regulations protecting more and more of these glorious Pinelands have helped them return to these areas.

Even now, the barren pines cover more land than Yosemite or Grand Canyon National Park. They are seriously beautiful trees, and they even have a dwarf cousin that covers a lot of the area. They're precious little fluffy pines haha. Thanks for letting me be dorky about this cool place that I feel like is really under appreciated. I'm glad people are looking out for it!

I hope you love this set from my friend Izzy!
