Black Moose

Do you have any favourite episodes or favourite moments from the show as a whole?

Who is the best character and why is it Levi?

Scott

What was your all time favorite reveal/shocking moment throughout the show?

L Roach

Who would you say had the best character development throughout the show?

With the series now over. How do you feel about the character journey of our Leads. Especially that of Eren who I feel had resonated with people. Thank you so much for this journey following it from the beginning has been a hoot and absolutely worth it. Amazing stuff and I can't wait for what is next?

Mathetes

Do you guys wish we got to see Erens last conversations through the paths with the rest of the characters like Reiner and Levi?

PuffyFish605

How did you feel about the way the series explored the concept of freedom and its cost by the end?

Mathetes

How did you guys imagine the show's ending compared to the ending we got?

Anthony Orozco

Do you guys truly think that eren had the ability to make a different choice? I’ve seen many reactors give the opinion that he could have but personally I don’t agree with that sentiment. I think honestly it’s what eren said, things happened the way they did, because power inevitably ended up in his hands, it was all predetermined, he even said it himself, he tried to change the future but to no avail. Anywho I’d like too hear you guys deep dive into this!

Zack K. Persson

Opinions on Jean and his alleged horse face

Ella

Thoughts and opinions on Armin and Annie?

Mathetes

What do you guys think Courtneys reaction would've been to the last half of season 4?

Chris Ramen

Are you guys going to watch the movie when it comes out in theaters? Pretty much the last two specials combined

Kinx

What do you think of Eren, giving his friends 100 years of peace (at least), before the world went to shit again? And do you think Eren could be Historia’s baby daddy, to the child? Or is he loyal to Mikasa? (Btw, that Cabin scene with Mikasa and Eren, it’s a “what if?” scenario that Mikasa is imagining. It’s not a memory that she lost, or a vision that Eren gave her. And the bird at the end, wrapped the scarf around Mikasa, it didn’t try to steal it.) What a Journey, thanks for finishing the show. I bet it was a struggle to record.

Sergio

Will you be doing a rewatch? Now that you know the twists, you should see all the foreshadowing and hints they drop in the early episodes.

Tyjutsuu

Why did she drop off ?

Eren

do you think eren was right or wrong?

Would like to hear you all discuss the sort intertwined themes of “our devils are our only hope”, cycles of violence, and the “cruel but beautiful world”. For instance, I think Eren and Floch both sort of go on a similar-ish journey of wanting to be some version of a more conventional hero to being just beat down by how cruel the world is and both coming to the same conclusion that becoming the bigger bad guy (or bigger devil) is the only way to survive or protect the people closest to you. Which then of course leads to the rumbling and the bigger themes of cycles of violence/trauma. And it would have been really easy to have the more kind natured characters downright shame Eren and Floch as fully morally corrupt people. But I appreciate how Isayama instead has Hange agree with a dying Floch that “our devil is our only hope” but maybe someday it won’t be, and Armin co-accepting guilt with Eren in the paths but still hoping there’s more to the outside world. To me, it helps hammer home the Gabi, Kaya, Nicolo conversation that there’s a devil in all of us, that’s why the world is this way and may always be this way, but that’s it’s still important to try to “escape the forest” whenever we can. In this way, AOT shares many themes with the Last of Us Part 2, it’s why they are some of my favorite stories.

I agree. If you can, I highly recommend watching the suite video, OPs, and EDs with english subtitles. You will be very surprised how much of the themes of AOT and characters inner feelings are all over the songs.

Toodwart

Do you watch all the intros and outros again and react to them with your current level of knowledge? because there are many hints and spoilers in it ^^

Hello! long time fan! hopefully you remember me from the walking dead like 3 years ago when I commented on your assumptions video that lia is scared of spiders molly has bald patches etc.

Which character do u think was written the worst in the show and the best

Buggy99

Hypothetical: If you were an intelligent titan and needed to get your friends out of a sticky situation fast, would you carry them on your shoulders (like Reiner in S2) or would you carry them inside the titan (like Annie in S1 or Pieck in S4) Thank you for your reactions to AOT, I really hope you enjoyed the journey!

DanKnee

Would like to hear your thoughts on the original Ymir. For instance, I don’t bring this up as an excuse for any other characters actions, but I am always so surprised by how little discussion there is regarding Ymir’s agency in the show (I don’t mean just you all I mean in general). I think the show does a good job of showing how important Ymir’s children were to her, and how sort of indebted she felt to the first king for giving them to her (even if he was otherwise a seemingly cruel person to her and others). I could imagine she sees all the subject of Ymir (ie all of her children) and is basically disgusted and angry at how they are all slaves in internment camps or trapped in the walls with their memories wiped. And in the paths where time is weird and events seem to occur all at the same time (future, past, present), Ymir works with Eren specifically because he reminds her that she is a person and has her own agency to do whatever she wants with her power. Eren literally tells her “Was it you that led me here?” I genuinely do believe that she manipulated Eren with only the future memories that would push him forward and then sort shielded him from having to be fully mentally present during the actual completion of the rumbling, which she wanted to carry out. I think this is why Ymir’s presence is specifically shown when Ramzi/Halil are crushed, and when the former special titans are awoken to defend the rumbling. And I think this is why the bloody footprints of the rumbling are specifically shown to be masked by the sky and clouds when little Eren says “this is freedom”. And again, I absolutely don’t bring this up as an excuse for Eren because he desperately does want to be his version of “free” and that does include needing the rumbling and he is willing to accept Ymir’s help over other alternatives, but I do think Ymir wanted to do the rumbling and in fact it only plays out as fully as it did because of Ymir’s agency/desire.

DanKnee

Would be cool to hear you all talk about what would have happened if Levi chose Erwin. If season 3 episode 12, Levi asks him what to do after retaking Wall Maria, and Erwin literally says the next steps are “Eliminating Threats” and that “there seems to be someone hoping titans will eat us all.” So would Erwin have stuck to that plan and basically mobilized the entirety of Paradis into a version of Yeagerists sooner? Would he have also changed his thoughts after learning the massive odds against them and tried to seek peace like Hange did?

Musab imran

has the finale been released yet? I dont see it

AKA480.

I love Levi. The ending is pretty controversial but the main reason I despise it is because I think it ruined Levi’s character. Bit of a long rant but Hear me out. It all started with his injuries from the thunder spear. First off, the way in which the spear exploded was so contrived. Levi would never be dumb enough to have Zeke be in control of the thunder spear being set off, especially if he might involuntarily trigger it because he was flailing from being chopped up. But regardless, even if the explosion made sense, it’s still a terrible idea. He's completely stripped of his pathos as a result of his injuries and scars and he's written to be so one note in his desire to kill Zeke. Levi's terrible injuries lessens the pathos of his character and exacerbates his suffering to the point of annoyance. A key part of Levi’s pathos is that he’s the strongest who watches everyone die because he survives. But his injuries and scars strip him of that. And it is fundamentally devastating and detrimental to his character. Erwin and Hange got critical injuries in key battles but never Levi. That was part of the pathos that made him interesting, especially with how he contrasted against the other characters. His struggles were never really physical. That’s part of what made his character interesting and unique. Especially juxtaposed against the others. His injuries and scars exacerbated his suffering to an annoying, frustrating, and tiring degree. He’s suffered so much and injuring and scarring him physically took things too far in the wrong direction for his character. When you perpetually try to exacerbate a character's tragedies and pain, at first that can be compelling. But eventually, if they never get out of it, and it just keeps getting worse, then it just comes off infuriating , annoying, and contrived. Beforehand, Levi’s struggles made him compelling. But after he was injured, for me personally, it was infuriating. I can't enjoy any scene he has after it happened due to the context of his injuries among other plot and characterization criticisms. So many potentially good moments he has towards the ending are ruined by the context surrounding them. His injuries ruin every scene he is in. There are also messy plot mechanics that contradict each other without head canon explanations. For example, the plot mechanics of the founding titan and zeke dying make no sense and require head canon to make sense. Levi killing Zeke wouldn’t stop the rumbling. At that point, all that was needed was eren and Ymir. If Zeke was necessary for it to continue, then he would’ve stopped it earlier. Plus, eren still has the powers of the founder even after Zeke dies. Therefore he could still do the rumbling. You need head canon to explain the plot holes which is not good. But a MONUMENTAL problem is the Ymir plotline. Everything that happened was predetermined to go a certain way by Ymir, regardless of what could be done, making all sacrifices and actions worthless for every character in the series. It puts the story in a position where the rules of the world are now predicated and contingent on the actions of a human in the form of this dumb character Ymir. I have a severe problem with this because it takes away the agency of everyone else in existence. Every character who sacrificed anything, sometimes their lives, was rendered a moot point. Everything was useless because no matter what, it was destined to end this way. Apparently, Ymir drew out all this conflict for thousands of years as a way of relating Mikasa's experiences to her own which is ludicrous. Ymir let the world suffer from the Titans for thousands of years just to make it so that Mikasa would be the chosen one destined for thousands of years to kill Eren because of the parallels present with them. It removed the agency of every character with a dumb and as subtle as a brick chosen one idea. The Ymir plot device means Levi had no agency in his actions because the writer through contrivances wanted to shoehorn a love being set free arc. And instead of making it symbolic, it's literally the lynchpin of the entire suffering of the world and it makes every character's actions useless because no matter what, it was predetermined. The whole ending being predetermined by Ymir's desires removes any agency and undermines every plot development and action made by the cast. The world is also worse off than it was before. The rumbling should've destroyed the world’s ecosystem allowing nobody to survive. The CO2 alone would kill them from everything being on fire. And if you want to say, well don’t bring basic science to a series about giant monsters. The fact is, you have to ground a story in some kind of reality with rules. And if you can burn to death like Hange did, there’s no way any human could survive the rumbling. Even if it only destroys eighty percent of the population. The ecosystem is destroyed by the rumbling making it impossible for humanity to survive post rumbling. But even you put all that aside, there's no way the hate towards paradis isn't worse. The world would absolutely become more hateful of eldians and paradis more than they already were. So all that effort was for nothing. The ending made all of Levi’s efforts pointless. Paradis is screwed. Even if the world likes the alliance, that doesn't mean they'll like paradis. The Tybur family was respected but other eldians were hated. The same can happen to the alliance. Even armin makes that comparison. Everyone already hated paradis to a cartoonish degree so now that's exacerbated. And some people might say well yeah it should have a depressing ending. So you actually like the fact that the ending is inherently nihilistic and makes it so that every character's actions are useless? Especially if it was contrived? The plot mechanics surrounding the founding titan and Ymir are so contrived and nonsensical and mechanically. The plot mechanics and story got over convoluted to the point of lunacy and frustration. Injuring Levi fundamentally ruined his character and every potentially decent scene he could have had.

Many fans come up with “What if” scenarios for AoT, such as: What if Marcel lived, What if Erwin was chosen instead of Armin, What if Marco lived, etc… What is one “What if” scenario of this show you’d like to explore and how do you think it would play out?

Hana

Who would you pick for a live action AOT (ignore the one that exists)

>>157514683

I think Eren absolutely could have made a different choice, as he sort of alludes to at the start of the first special. If he really wanted to, he could just let Eldians get wiped out and therefore less overall people die. But he “just can’t let it end that way”. Meaning he is choosing not to let it end that way (ie badly for himself and Paradis). The future is pre-determined in that Eren is going to get exactly what he wants (or at least what he thinks is his best option of bad options). At least, that’s my perspective on it.

DanKnee

I think it would be cool to hear you all just discuss the character arcs of the show because AOT has so many great characters besides the big 3. Levi/Kenny, Erwin, Hange, Reiner/Jean/Conny, Sasha, Floch, Historia, Gabi, Marcel/Porco, Grisha/Zeke. The list goes on and on.

DanKnee

What are your thoughts on Historia? I know Historia didn’t get a lot of screen time in season 4, but I am personally okay with it. In my head canon, Eren confided in Historia about the rumbling because, as the Queen, she was the only other person who felt a similar responsibility for all the people of Paradis. And her speech at the end of the second special (ie this world is a consequence of all our choices, and not just Eren’s) was sort of her admitting that she couldn’t choose to stop Eren and damn Paradis/Eldians. The same way that Eren said he couldn’t let it end that way at the beginning of the first special.

One thing you wanted to happen/would rather have happened? For me I would’ve liked to see Erwin learn the truth of the basement

Was Eren justified in initiating the Rumbling, knowing the catastrophic consequences for humanity? Could there have been another way to ensure Paradis’ survival?

Being such a complex thought provoking show, One might not know how to ask surface lvl questions or a deep dive. I really hope the ladies go all out on these questions! That being said, feel free to pick and choose which is best or w.e. feels best. Which character do you think you’d be in the AoT Universe? Which AoT(SNK) character did You relate to the most? Which is your favorite character and why? What moment(s) personally stood out to you and why? After all is said and done, which side did you end up falling with, The Yeagerist? Marley + the rest of the world? or ...? Is there a moment you found yourself connecting this "story" telling to real world events? How did Season 1 make you feel? Season 2& 3? Compared to Season 4? Was the hype real? What parts of the show didn’t you like/ disagree with & why? Which opening&closing song did you like most?’ Overall, how did “Attack on Titan” make you feel? Your take on Floch? If he was on “your” side, would that change anything? How did Zeke Yeager make you feel and thoughts on his perception of reality? What’s your take on “free will” vs “causality” (or somewhere in the middle)? How does Eren make you feel? Did he have a choice? Was there ever an option for peace? Is being intimately close to someone warrant an excuse for their behavior? (Most people would not do what mikasa did and would instead do what ymir did and save their lover. Ymir letting the pigs out was a Biblical reference, meaning she gave humanity free will and this is the result of it. Endless cycles of “R. V. G. “ masked as“History”) You should React to “Hiroyuki Sawano / Project [emU] “Attack on Titan” suite, the fandom would

First off. It has been quite the ride to enjoy the best show ever with you ladies. Second, last time you were afraid to butcher my name LOL so it's pronounced FONG. Just as you see it lol. The PH is an F sound. 🤣 Don't feel bad. People are always fumbling my name so it's not a huge deal. I just help them along LOL. ANYWAYS. Q: How do you think S4 would have been different if Levi had chosen Erwin instead of Armin? How do you think Erwin would have responded to Eren going rogue with Zeke? What do you think his strategy would have been in trying to get Eren back during the events of episodes S4 ep6-8? - Other key moments if Erwin was chosen instead of Armin: Hange wouldn't be commanding the Scouts, blowing up the Marley port, keeping Annie up to date, figuring out Eren's reasons for joining Zeke, Eren talking with Mikasa and Armin at Nicolo's restaurant, getting Falco back from Conny, fleeing from the Rumbling at the port where Hange gave her life, fighting against Eren during the final two long episodes. Q: What do you do with your lives now that AoT is over? I'm still figuring that out :P

I disagree with the Levi characterization again Levi didn't predict Zeke would voluntarily commit suicide. And again he isn't one note he has an entire monologue later on about his motives in the final episode and why he wants to kill Zeke. The point of his survival still stands even if he is injured, he is the only one of the original survey corps alive by the end and he has to find a meaning for their deaths. But this seems like a more personal thing I wanted to address the other complaints you had. Zeke was always necessary for the founding titans' full power to be used it was never stated elsewhere that it was not. Zeke was trapped in paths by Ymir until 137. Eren does not have the founding power after this, it is shown as the rumbling stopped after his death. Ymir is also shown to have been listening to Zeke and Armin's convo which what convinced her to let Zeke out. Before that, she was fine keeping him there. Before you say it is head cannon, it really isn't and can be inferred I am not making up rules to make it make sense. everything was not pre determined by Ymir, this was never stated or implied this all happened by her will, she simply went along with what Eren wanted and after 137 allowed Zeke to be free from the paths to fight, she still never directly goes against Eren, she still helps him create that colossal version of himself and activates the worm. Ymir for the past 2000 years was not an active agent basically a slave for the royal family, she only began to interact with the others like Mikasa after she went along with Eren. The thing that ultimately resulted in Ymir finally ending the titan curse and being able to move on from her life only occurs by other characters making those decisions, she had no hand in that. Eren wasn't influenced by her as he never wanted to kill his friends and this was going to be the outcome regardless due to this reason. he only realized by doing this he would be freeing Ymir and as result end the titan curse. Lol bringing up that paradise is screwed is a silly point as most of the outside world was devastated and wouldn't be able to launch a counter attack, even if they did Paradise has a head start. Also the alliance being their would of course help improve relationship with the outside world and Paradise as they saved them. You bringing up the Tybers is interesting as before Willy the Tybers did nothing and just sat around in their mansions, and once he came to power he was able to help Eldians in the internment zone and build ties with nations, tried to help with the reputation with the eldians. They didn't hate paradise to a cartoonish degree, most of the world was busy hating Marley before Willy's speech (which was orchestrated by Zeke and Eren in order to get the world against paradise). The ending is supposed to ultimately be hopeful about why the cycle of violence is inevitable but we should still strive to move past it for the sake of future generations. You have a great misunderstanding of the ending and certain characters and themes, I hope I was able to clear it up for you I would suggest watching Invaderzz videos on the topic, he goes into more detail about Ymir's character, the themes, and determinism.

Man Lit

now that you have seen the whole thing would you rewatch the show again or recommend it to others? also, check out the YouTube channel called invaderzz if you are confused about the ending he did some really great vids on Eren and Ymir.

Which of the 9 titans would you both be?

>>157522897

Okay some counterpoints, it doesn’t matter if Levi could or couldn’t predict that. There’s know way he could be certain that Zeke wouldn’t accidentally set it off just from involuntarily squirming while being chopped up. And even if it was written in a way that made more technical sense, I still think it’s a terrible idea for all the reasons I mentioned. 90 percent of his dialogue revolves around him wanting to kill Zeke. And the stuff that isn’t is rendered a moot point because of the plot mechanics surrounding the ending, and for me personally, his injuries. Yes but there is no meaning to their deaths because all their actions amounted to nothing. There’s more to Levi’s strength than just being alive when everyone else is dead. It’s a key component of what makes him stand out. Plus he’s suffered enough and exacerbating that just makes his character frustrating and less compelling. I’m not saying what makes Levi interesting is that he’s cool in fights or his power. Because that’s obviously dumb. But take a character like spider-man. Having power is an important part of the pathos of his character and while very different, the same could be said for Levi. Another example is Superman’s power to overcome his obstacles and conflict. I know they’re different characters. I’m just using aspects about them that overlap to illustrate my point. There’s also everything I mentioned previously. Plus, think about how contrived it is that Levi of all characters was permanently injured twice. An editor said in an interview that Isayama apparently wanted to kill Levi but was convinced otherwise so I guess he just wanted to devalue his presence in the narrative as much as possible or rather injuring him was a terrible compromise. But I guess that’s more subjective. I will say, if Levi’s ending was actually decent and his agency wasn’t taken for him, I probably would’ve forgiven all the nonsense regarding aot’s ending. As for everything else, If eren didn’t have the founder’s power, how was he able to turn into a colossal? Ymir is the founding titan. You can’t have one without the other. The worm creature being separated doesn’t factor into that. And if Zeke was necessary, then why didn’t he stop it earlier. His contact allowed the catalyst of Ymir and eren activating the rumbling but not the continuation. And if he was still necessary then why was it still possible to be reactivated after he died? And yes everything was predetermined. She chose Mikasa and set this in course. And no matter what eren did, it was predetermined. Ymir interacting with mikasa after she went along with eren doesn’t mean she didn’t plan to earlier on. And people get way too caught up with Ymir’s motivations when I don’t really think it matters since she’s barely even a character and more of a plot device if anything. And yes she did have a hand in that because she chose mikasa to set her free. So clearly she did. You can’t have it both ways. Eren also said that it was predetermined by Ymir and said he felt like he needed to do it and that she chose mikasa. How can you say she had no influence? There is no room to strive for a better future. That theme of the ending is so ridiculously contrived with the way all the pieces were moved to get there. War and hatred are inevitable, so people should anticipate it at every turn. While these exist in reality, they’re things Eren could literally fix or even erase from existence in a few seconds. Instead of using his powers to arrange things to lead to the most peaceful outcome, Eren begrudgingly started The Rumbling because that’s what his "fate" said. For all his talk of freedom, Eren was too defeatist and myopic to imagine a truly free world. Not helping was how the series framed this as a self-fulfilling prophecy rather than an avoidable one. Therefore it had to be Ymir pulling the strings because of everything I mentioned. Paradis is outnumbered by the outside world remaining and regardless of who has the upper hand, it’s still going to be more conflict and more death. And regardless of the help paradis got from the outside world, there’s no way they can shortcut themselves to being as powerful as a modern country with all its resources. And that still doesn’t excuse the fact that technically it makes no sense for any human to be left alive on earth post rumbling. And if you seriously think the alliance saving 20 percent of humanity is going to be enough for the world that was already cartoonishly exaggerated to hate paradis to not hate them anymore, I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous. Yes the world did hate paradis especially after eren’s attack. And none of this changes all the Ymir’s stuff or the fact that nobody could survive the rumbling. And regardless of what the tybur’s were doing, everything still got worse. Eldians were hated so much that zeke’s father figure’s wife murdered herself and their child. If that’s not overly exaggerated, I don’t know what is. You’re trying to pass it off as this thematically rich and complex ending with so many story devices when in reality, it’s a bloated mess with too many moving parts all for the sake of an arbitrary mystery and awful world building and characterization. And the way you phrase my supposed misunderstanding sounds like you’re blaming me or numerous audience members for things that the writing should have conveyed better because here’s the bottom line regarding the conversation regarding the plot mechanics of Ymir, the founding titan, Zeke, the rumbling etc…. Even if you can explain it, you can’t deny that it’s really messy. And there’s plenty to poke holes in regardless as to whether or not you can fill them with plot explanations. Let’s say for the sake of argument that the pieces for the mechanics to work are actually there, you making big leaps to put them together is head canon or at least borderline. It’s not like I’m saying every little thing needs to explained. But there’s a difference between subtlety and keeping things vague for the sake of arbitrary plot mechanics. Just because the pieces are there, they’re very abstract and all over the place that makes you have to fill in the gaps to a fairly large degree for everything to supposedly click into place. Maybe that’s a sign that the narrative is overly complicated and messy and that the general audience shouldn’t be blamed for things that the writing should have conveyed better.

This was a nice read! I disagree with some of the levi points though, I wont write much on this, but, him being injured in this final fight makes more sense narratively. It leaves room for mikasa to HAVE to be the one to do it - and the cherry on top? he still gets amazing fight scenes which are even more impressive because hes doing it all while so heavily injured (Which is so much more impactful to see him pushed to his limits like this). Also It humanises him because even though he is an ackerman, he still gets emotional, he still lets his emotions make some decisions, he still gets hurt and he still can die. Honestly If Isayama decided to kill him with that thunder spear, id understand where the emotion is coming from, but he lived, kicked ass, and completed erwins final mission.

Blackfyre5490

Which characters did you love/hate, and which ones did your opinions change the most as the series went on?

AKA480.
>>157522897

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. But I do strongly disagree with the points you brought up. I think everything you mentioned can still work with one change. Levi’s injuries are temporary not permanent. That way you can still give mikasa the limelight. And it’s also relieving because you still get the tension of him being able to die and being physically weaker but also relief in knowing that if he makes it out in one piece, he’ll be okay. But isayama instead of doing that, injured him not once, but twice permanently. Isayama deliberately made that happen to Levi. Although I would argue with a little finagling Levi could still be at full strength and the basic bullet points of the finale would still work. I also think seeing him push through his injuries is not worth the needless drag it comes with and we’ve already seen Levi push himself through struggles. Granted not really physical but I found those to be much more interesting and relevant to the pathos of his character. Sure it changes things up for him to be injured physically and permanently but not all changes or shake ups are good. And none of the “benefits” are even remotely worth it in my opinion. And I don’t think injuring him humanizes him. We already found him compelling. We don’t need the overkill. And we’ve already seen him push through despite what’s against him. Like when he failed at capturing the beast titan and he was at such a low point emotionally. Because that’s what suits his character. Being at an emotional low. Not physical one. But making it a physical obstacle is not unique enough and it’s just needlessly a drag and redundant and feels like a bottom of the barrel idea. Levi’s suffered enough. And exacerbating that doesn’t make him more compelling. It just makes me as a reader/viewer incredibly angry. His struggles were never physical and that’s what made him unique and interesting juxtaposed against the other characters. When the scouts were licking their wounds after Levi subdued the female titan, almost everyone else is in bad shape but Levi just has a leg that’s injured for a short period of time. Or in shiganshina with everyone left alive dealing with the aftermath. Meanwhile Levi, just saw his comrades sacrifice himself for him to stop the beast titan, failed at it, and lost a close friend and yet physically he’s fine unlike everyone else. That juxtaposition is so great and it’s ruined later on. And when you keep making things perpetually worse for a character, it gets to a point where it’s just angering instead of compelling. And I just hate the idea in of itself to the point where I just fundamentally despise how his character was played out in the last 14 episodes. Everyone talks about how great his final salute to the scouts or his goodbye to hange are and I want to appreciate them as much as everyone else. Really I do. On paper, they’re great scenes. But with the context of his injuries and scars and everything I mentioned about how it felt like his accomplishments were meaningless and his agency being stripped away from story, I utterly loath those scenes. But that’s just me. Didn’t mean to beat a dead horse. Also random thought but I think it would be more interesting for Levi to be at his best when saying goodbye to hange because it hammers home the fact that they need him now more than ever. Which is why he has to go and Hange has to stay. Last thing I wanted to mention, Levi is a superhuman among the regular population. Even shifters. And yet despite everything he is and can do, he can’t save everyone. That’s a core part of his character that is so fundamental that messing with it in such a devastating and permanent way, is a fundamental abomination for me as someone who appreciates him as a character. Don’t mean to sound pretentious.

Their would be ways to account for Zeke not squirming around, and it seems he did when setting it up as Zeke doesn't set it off while being sliced, only when he purposely moved to set it off did it. Unless your telling me Zeke was actively not trying to move a lot while Levi was cutting him, which I doubt since the pain would literally be unbearable. The many reasons you mentioned don't hold up since Levi's only mistake was not thinking Zeke would be willing to kill himself, he underestimated Zeke's resolve not his competencies. It doesn't matter that 90% of his dialogue is about killing Zeke, he has entire monologue on why and his views of the rumbling in the final episode. It isn't rendered moot because plot mechanics wouldn't effect his motivations for wanting Zeke gone, for why he chose Armin over Erwin, his view of the scouts and the rumbling, and Eren. It is an internal monologue, just because YOU choose to ignore the characterization does not mean it is there. You have to account for it if you want to claim Levi was damaged. Their actions amounted to saving the remaining 20% of the population and they managed to keep the peace for long enough where they all grew old assumedly (or at least Mikasa did). Levi's Pathos or general place in the story is not ruined by him getting injured and again how does him being injured make his character less compelling and frustrating? What you mentioned does not ruin his character, a lot of the point is he has to deal with people close to him dying around him and finding a meaning to their sacrifice. It isn't contrived, he got injured trying to save Conny, which makes sense since he is one of the most capable people there and has a fast reaction time, you cannot just retroactively call something contrived. Would it be contrived that all the titan shifters were in the same cadet corp? No, because we know why and how it occurred. Injuring Levi allowed other characters to take up new problems and responsibilities, it happened before when he was taken out during the female titan arc. Isayama had the opportunity to kill him but didn't since it wouldn't achieve the same narrative goals and themes that keeping him alive would. Nothing is devalued with him being injured and his characterization remains the same, the comparisons to superman and spiderman are not really apt either. Like I said a lot of Levi's character is not just having the power, a lot of the lose and problems he has to deal with do not have to do with power, it is the fact he has to deal with a lot personal lose and find a way to move forward with it. This is subjective like you said so I will move on from it. His agency was not taken from him. I told you he spent time in paths, Ymir helped build his colossal body or he did, he was already in the head of the colossal form. He didn't have any of the powers of the founder at that time, I think even the mid-card pointed this out. No Ymir is not the founding titan she is the founder. There is a difference. Zeke was stuck in paths and immobile due to Ymir, and Eren used his body to maintain contact. We don't know if it is still possible to reactivate it after he died. I never said it was not predetermined only that the characters still made those choices, it wasn't decided by Ymir, where is this mentioned? It was predetermined because it is Eren's behavior and nature to do this, he isn't forced to do this by Ymir. She didn't plan it earlier, she couldn't she was a slave with no will of her own. She couldn't even side with Eren until he convinced her she didn't have to obey the royal bloods. I mean we have an entire chapter dedicated to her, and her motivations are what allow the rumbling to occur, so it is important to know her motivations. You misunderstand, Ymir was interested in Mikasa, which is why she looked through her memories to see why she was doing what she was doing. She didn't arbitrarily choose Mikasa. Also, she didn't influence Mikasa's decisions in any way either. Eren did not say it was predetermined by Ymir. This is literally never said. He said that Ymir choosing Mikasa is one of the reasons he continued on with this path because he knew it result in the Titans being removed. But yea it is not predetermined by Ymir. idk where you got that idea from. They show that you strive to make a better future regardless, you can't just keep calling it contrived lol. You don't understand Eren's character then, his motives for doing the rumbling are ultimately selfish, he wanted to experience his own freedom. it does treat it as avoidable even if it was predetermined, it does not excuse his actions by saying it was predetermined, the reason the rumbling happened was that Eren wanted it to, he states this in show clearly. So because there will be more conflict and death in the future it was pointless? Isn't that true for like most stories or hell real life? Paradise has a technological advantage currently, that is clear. The alliance actively taking a part in trying to create peace and being the reason they are alive would of course factor in. Also calling it cartoonish is just incorrect, the world were told lies upon lies about Paradise, when this gets pointed out to them by Willy, they question why they are even at conflict with Paradise. Alot of this is much more complicated then blind hate, Marley for instance had a vested interest in making Paradise the scapegoat for any problems they make. The entire world didn't care about Paradise until Willy's speech and eren attacked civilians, Marley used Paradise as a scape goat to get other countries off their back. You are taking things out of context and using certain situations to color your view of the entire world when of course it would be more complicated. I can also point out certain instances that show that things can improve. Also things didn't get worse when Willy Tyber got in control and actually started to help and create better conditions. The rest of the world isn't just filled with people who hate eldians with every fiber in their being, it is ridiculous to act like this is the world that is being shown when it is clearly not and it is demistrated to be more complicated. You're trying to pass it off as this bloated mess with too many moving parts all for the sake of an arbitrary mystery and awful world-building and characterization when in reality it is a thematically rich and complex ending with so many story devices. idk I don't need to ignore or downplay certain elements of the story to make my point stronger. Blaming is a strong word, and also I had many problems with the ending when I first read it, It just took time for me to fully understand it. And even then I have issues with it as well, just not when it comes to character or overall themes. I never said it wasn't messy or could have done better, it can always be done better, but I disagree with your critiques that try to argue that there isn't an explanation and these are plot holes when there are clear explanations in the story, perhaps you wished for better explanation but that is subjective. It isn't head cannon to use references from the text, it is simply making inferences. Most of how you interpret a story is down to assumptions and inferences to fill in gaps. I wouldn't say it's arbitrary again how did you conclude that something is arbitrary? Having things be subtle and not spelled out can be a very engaging way to tell a story AoT does this well, I think having Ymir not talk is an interesting choice and yes makes the ending more open to interpretation and discussion, I also think the subtly made it more profound. The general audience liked the ending, even the manga ending which was more mixed was still generally positive. I am also not trying to blame you, I had similar feelings once when I first read it in the manga, but I changed over time as I kept having discussions and reading it through. I would suggest you watch Invaderzz vids if you want an idea of my perspective, I feel like we can argue for a long time but I don't want to or have the energy.

Boy you're crazy too. you know it's just an anime? In the context of the plot, I think Eren is simply well written. I liked it. for me it was perfect.

Team Eren? are you a Jaegerist giving up your heart? But seriously, I'd love you guys to discuss the moral dilemma and what you would do if you were in Eren's shoes. Eren chose to save his people and loved ones (esp. Mikasa, Armin} at the cost of 80% of humanity. Alot of innocents died, but remember Tybur Willy had gathered the entire world and made a 'declaration of war' on Paradis Island so they were going to destroy and kill everything Eren loved.

How did your perspectives change as the show evolved? The show does a great job of instilling a certain perspective just to throw depressingly new information into the mix. After watching a lot of reactions, there is a surprising amount of variation. Especially when you guys are so vehemently on the side of moral right, I've seen a lot of pro-jaegerist opinions. For a lot of people Armin and Mikasa stopping Eren made no sense to them. Also! Thoughts on Eren and Mikasa's pairing? I would've liked more development, but I see them as a metaphor for something that would have been wonderful had they been born in a time of peace.

This isn't a question but since Lia was confused about the whole making the titan ignore Bert and go after Erens mom in the past thing. The attack Titan can see the future and influence past inheritors, the founding titan can manipulate all eldians/titans via the paths where past, present and future exists at the same time. Combine those two powers and that's how Eren made the titan go after his mom instead of Bertholdt

I mean kinda, could also be internal dialogue as to him wondering why things had to end up the way they did, trying to put reason to the future, I truly think the end goal was destined to happen, and like eren said, he did in fact try and change things he saw but “to no avail” things still happened the way they were supposed too in his memories. Meaning their were instances where he tried to change shit

manne_36

My thoughts on the ending; Eren was able to send Dina to eat his mother because (future) eren had zeke in the paths and accessed the coordinate to control Dina with the founding titan (a pure titan can be manipulated by the founding). Future eren had to manipulate Dina so that the story would play out how it did by pushing baby eren by having his mother eaten in front of him to fuel him. Eren says he’s a garden variety idiot while speaking to armin, I interpreted it as eren is an average guy with human limited brain/understanding who was unable to comprehend Ymir’s power, so this was the only outcome because he did not know how to use the power . That’s why he says his head is so scrambled, because he’s dealing with powers beyond his capabilities. Also it could be future eren tells baby eren about the future then baby eren tells armin which is the part of the sequence we get then future eren wipes their memories which are given back to them once he’s dead

Throughout the series, you were vocal about your dislike for Floch Foster and his methods. However, looking back now, can you understand his perspective that stopping the Rumbling would lead to the world eventually destroying Paradis, especially since the island was attacked even when only 20% of humanity was left? Do you think Floch’s stance was more realistic compared to Hange’s and the Paradis military’s mindset, which seemed to only delay the inevitable rather than address the root problem of the world viewing the Eldians as a threat? P.S.: Just remember him saying "Don't go, please don't... everyone in the island will be killed. Our devils are our only hope."

André Carvalho

Eren’s journey seems deeply tied to the Bootstrap Paradox, where an event exists in a self-sustaining loop of cause and effect, with no clear point of origin. After seeing the future when he kissed Historia’s hand, Eren was seemingly locked into a path that he felt he had no choice but to follow. Yet, throughout the series, it’s clear that Eren tried to change things—when he asked Conny about Sasha’s last words, when he questioned Mikasa about what he was to her, and when he tried not to save the refugee boy from the Marleyan stallholders. In each of these moments, he seemed to test whether events could unfold differently, but everything still happened as he had seen in his memories. On top of this, Eren himself admitted that, while he was 'an idiot' who didn’t know what to do with so much power, everything happened because, in some way, he 'wanted' it to happen. How do you interpret this paradox? Do you believe Eren acted out of free will, or was everything predetermined? And does Eren’s acknowledgment of his own role in these events change your perspective on his choices and the themes of fate versus free will in the story?
