idk how much you should trust me since I'm not the biggest J Cole fan but my favorite 3 J Cole albums are still coming up (4 Your Eyez Only, The Off Season, and The Fall Off). Then again we have different tastes, I really didn't like Born Sinner much at all.

This album was my introduction to Cole so it will always hold a special place for me but personally I think KOD and Might Delete Later are goated.

I completely agree 2014 isn't sonically his best album, i think Born Sinner has way more bangers but it's for sure the best conceptually I think that's where the glaze comes from, I still think 4yeo is better tho. J Cole getting clowned for what happened in 2024 is genuinely the dumbest thing ever. Kendrick and him were on the come up together and had been close through the experience of fame. When Kendrick fired shots I don't think it was initially savage at Cole, it gave Control energy, obviously he was talking way more about Drake in Like that. Cole has released the best stuff since all their primes in the early to mid 2010's and has remained consistent with his crazy production skill and kept improving his pen until the only artist in the genre atm that comes close is under his own label. J cole is the man, he is by far the most talented out of the big 3 and if we're being honest would smoke 2024 Kendrick in a beef, early 2010's Kendrick is different but none of the diss tracks except maybe the end of euphoria are that high quality and Cole is a beast. The Fall off sweeps GNX and all 3 of Drake's solo albums since the beef, so why are people to clinging onto a situation between 3 people they really know nothing about or have any loyalties to just to bring down someone with an unbelievable amount of talent and ear for music. It's the same thing as not listening to Drake not because you like Kendrick or vice versa. You don't know these people so why do you care. Sorry for the schpiel, you're just right about the common perception of the big 3, and it's run by brown nosing losers who think they know these celebrities. Anyway keep up the grind Verti loving all the different content you've been putting out, you're that guy.

I enjoyed Born Sinner more when 2014 FHD dropped and still do after all this time. He has a similar cadence to Pac on "Fire Squad" but it's not the same.

for the question at around 12 minutes, the music is definitely a product of the environment and not the cause. Everyone(generally) listens to rap but not every community has the same level of violence that they face. Because the material conditions for black people in the US is so much worse, it produces the violence that then produces rap. its poverty -> violence -> rap, not the other way around as fox news would like you to believe.

Cole my #1 (let me preface that) and I love this album but it isn't my favorite. It is VERY funny to me that you see him as the serial cheater, rapping about hoes all the time rapper.....knowing what comes from the rest of his career lol. Also as for the Rap beef, I imagine you'll get a better look into Cole's mind over the next 10 years of his music and see just why he did it. I wanted so badly to see the Dot battle (and bumped the fuck out of that diss track) but I also hold no issue with what Cole did, knowing him as I do through all of his music. I can see the Cole fan growing in you and look forward to you getting closer to that time in his music and seeing how your opinion (I'm sure) will change.
