they just need a little cathastrophe to save the day and prove to the mayor that they are... reasonably adequate to be Knights of Life...'s substitutes.

Yeah I see it! And I don’t just mean a Nigel and Tristan, the entire party kind of fits that description. Especially since that attack where they lost their supplies. After that and the trip that they took, their clothing is bound to show a bit of wear and tear. It wont be long until they all start looking as frayed as Nigel and Tristan. At least until the team’s next significant wardrobe shift. Personally I think it would be funny if Tristan and Nigel became the best dressed for a while during the trip.

Of course, stereotypically they expect hulking sized men to be knights.

The look on Nigel’s face says that he knew it wouldn’t be that easy

Okay, on the one hand, I can understand why the mayor is skeptical about the team’s claim about them being the Knights of Life, but on the other hand, considering his perception on what the Knights would look like is literally just a stereotypical looking team of literal knights in shining armor, he clearly hasn’t heard of the term “looks can be deceiving”. I would suggest showing him their medals but, unfortunately that may not work since more and more people in the current era seem to be unaware of the Tree of Life’s existence, as Luna herself said in the start of Book Zero, which could extend to not knowing about the existence of the other gods in the pantheon, possibly evidenced by the mayor not willing to listen to Alex’s request to contact the Lukaras, as well as the team itself not knowing who Alex is immediately, only knowing that he’s connected to Luna somehow, and of course, not knowing about the Knights of Life, especially considering how far away the team is from Luna’s village at this point. The more farther away they are, the less people in the current area they’re in will know about her. Either way, it looks the team has reached a dead end for the time being and unless they can figure out a way to convince the mayor of their true identity by the next morning, they’ll have to continue their journey to the Lukara City the long way. However, if Nigel’s vision of a massive horde of chaos beasts coming out of the water, as well as the fact that the village is one off the coast of the ocean, is anything to go on, I have a feeling their chance to prove themselves my come sooner than anyone may expect.

Welp... Time to do some side quests then.

There haven't been Knights of Life for a while and the Tree herself has been reduced to myths and fairy tales. So many gods have already died.
