So we label teeth as: incisor, canine, pre molar, and molar. The four front teeth use for cutting are incisors. The pointy teeth behind the incisors are called canine that are use for tearing food. We call them canines possibly because we correlate dog's teeth with pointy teeth. Dogs had been with us a lot longer than other domesticated animals including cats hence why pointy teeth are called canines and not felines. Premolar and molars are used for crushing and grinding food.
