First WIP this year! (Patreon)

Hi everyone! I learnt a lot of new things this week, and I'm pretty sure you'll be excited about the results ;)

Do you remember that I was working on the Subway mod last spring? I had to stop because of surgery and a fairly long recovery period. But I've started working on it again!

New Functional Objects

As well as the subway map I made before, I made a sign showing the train schedule. Not only can your sims go and check the schedule, but it is also a special required object that lets your sims wait for the next train.

I had to draw it myself, but guess it looks not bad.

I also made the ticket barrier based on the ticket machine from Business & Hobbies. It looks the same, but it only has the function of paying for a subway ticket (no small business functionality). The base cost is 20 simoleons, but children, students and the elders can purchase a travel pass.

Once your sims have paid for their ticket, the train will arrive shortly. They will then wait patiently for it, sitting on the seats near the ticket barrier.

To set up the movement of the trains wherever you like, there is a special object for this purpose: the train start point. Like the mosquito spawn points, it is only visible in Build/Buy mode. You can place several start points on the lot. The train will then arrive from the direction of the ticket barrier used for payment by the sim.

Once the train has arrived, it stops for a while and the game will ask if you want to travel or skip this train (in case you want to wait before travelling).

I'm very proud of myself because I've never done such complicated VFX before!

I'm going to create a custom lot in case you want to build a whole subway (or train) station. But that's not necessary, especially if you don't want to use the Custom Venues mod. You can also use the TOOL to place all the objects needed for the station to function outside the lot.

I also want to let you travel without a map picker, so you can select another station directly.

It would also be fun to create some chance cards for events that might happen in the subway, like losing your money or meeting someone attractive.

I aim to use as few packs as possible. Now, only Business & Hobbies are required.

Feel free to suggest more ideas for this mod — I might implement them, too.
