1.126 Mod Status and Some Thoughts (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone, I returned from vacation and feel rested! Now, to the mod status.
Patch Related
I checked my mods on the latest 1.126 patch:
No Candy Maker Onboarding Notification is obsolete, EA turned off this notification
Secret Witness During WooHoo Fix is also obsolete, this issue is fixed
Can't believe I'm saying it, but seems that they fixed the pay rent bug for real this time! So my Pay Rent Fix is kinda obsolete. I'm just unsure if the EA fix covers all cases, so if you're still experiencing this bug, use my mod then

Genetics Overhaul Updates
Besides that, I updated the main module of the Genetics Overhaul collection with a few cool features. You can read the details in the post.
There are more features I'd like to implement, so I hope to publish a WIP post soon and discuss things with you.
Also, many of you asked if it's possible to release a version of the Better Inheritance module that keeps the skin blending feature. I made the tests one more time, and, unfortunately, this feature works only when there are no restrictions of offspring's possible skin hues.
So, basically, this feature is available only when all other skin bugs are not fixed. It seems wrong to me to release a 'Better Inheritance' version, which actually doesn't fix most of the issues. I think, if you really love skin blending, it will be better just not install this module – all of them are undependable anyway.
Thoughts about AI
It's not related to my mods, and you can skip all this section, I just wanted to vent a bit. I'm so tired of all this AI slope everywhere. I haven't stated that explicitly before, because I hoped it wouldn't worth even mentioning.
Yeah, I don't use AI in my works. Neither in scripts, packages, mod pictures, resources and so on. If I struggle with something during coding, I read threads on Stack Overflow, Modders Discord Server or just discuss implementation with my husband <3. If a mod needs some textures or paintings, I draw it myself or look for free to use works of other people which marked as non AI generated. I make mod pictures myself or ask my friends to send me pics. Ofc, none of my posts are AI generated (guess you can tell as I'm not a native English speaker).
I wish it would be truth for everyone. Yet I already see a few times per week here and there a mod or CC that was done partially or entirely with AI. And many creators don't even bother to state it clearly, which is strange for me, because they usually insist they do nothing wrong.
Sometimes I'm curious enough to investigate the resources, or my friends ask me if it's safe to use. Well, it's so obvious when a script is generated. I'm not even talking about bugs or inefficiency. But sometimes the mod even doesn't require any scripting, yet I'm reading over 2k code lines with painful face expression lol. And not only mods, we have to deal with AI tools at this moment too. I suppose you noticed how bad the situation we're currently in. So I advise you to ask a creator directly, if you have any doubts, and check such independent resources as Scarlet's Realm. I'm very grateful to Scarlet for pointing to AI mods.
Still, I'm just so frustrated. I haven't told it before, but I quit my IT job a couple of years ago because of my poor physical and mental health. Even when I recovered a bit, I just decided to not rejoin this cursed field. Almost every company requires using AI anywhere, and seems that most of devs are very into this shit. They don't care about environmental damage nor product quality.
When you're pointing to the second aspect (since the first one isn't even worth discussing with these people), you always hear that you just don't use the AI tools right. C'mon guys, I'm a software engineer and my minor in university was about machine learning and neural networks, I know exactly how all these shitty ChatGPTs work. Their hallucination is not a bug, it's a damn feature of the architecture. And this feature, as a result, provides really bad and low quality solutions.
There are cases where networks are useful. And it's not these fucking LLM things. It's well known and quite tiny algorithms, and often you'll be fine just with classic machine learning models without any networks at all. They can be run locally without any real harm to environment, just as a tiny code library. Yet we deal with plain text processing tasks using ChatGPT or Claude or whatever, awesome. And they don't even worth it, because there are so many studies that you'll spend more time on tasks using AI rather solve it yourself.
As for me, modding is my fulltime job and It's my only source of income. I understand, that's a privilege in some way because of my husband's income that affords for both of us a comfortable life, and we can even donate to charity. So I won't judge anyone who is forced to do their job with AI. These days, having a job is often luck alone. But you always decide yourself whether or not to use AI to create things for this damn Sims, as well as it's your choice to protect AI slope.
I really hope this AI economic bubble bursts before it destroys everything we care about.
Just to be clear, I'm not interested in seeing pro-AI debates here. This shit is everywhere already and I won't tolerate it on my Patreon page.
Thanks for reading my rant ;)
