Back in 2007 I was contacted by a producer at Adult Swim who was interested in potentially turning Charlie the Unicorn into a TV series. This was about a year after YouTube user gswanson17's upload of Charlie had gone viral on YouTube, and about a year before I joined the then-new "YouTube Partner Program" and started uploading videos to the site myself.

Attached is the script I wrote for the show's pilot. This script led to Adult Swim sending me a contract for a potential 10 episode series, which I ultimately decided not to sign in favor of pursuing an independent career on YouTube instead.

Much of what happens in the script is not "lore accurate" with the eventual YouTube series—when I decided to go the independent route I sat down and came up with a much different plan for how I wanted the series to go. I do not think the Adult Swim version of Charlie the Unicorn would have been very good, but there were some decent jokes here and many of the best of them ended up getting repurposed for Charlie's eventual YouTube series as well as various other FilmCow cartoons over the next few years.

Enjoy.

I'm not surprised they came forward to pitch a show. It was too interesting for them to pass up.

It's kind of neat to peak into an alternate universe. I'm glad you stayed independent. :3

My favorite part of the Charlie Adult Swim journey was the list of what you needed to produce the series (from the old Spatula Madness blog): Dance Dance Revolution Arcade System (1) Boa constrictor (1) 5 Gallons of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (5) Half a kilo of cocaine (1) Abe Lincoln’s skull (2) Horse and Buggy with driver (must be Amish) (1) 125 pound rottweiler (1) The hope diamond (1) One fully grown redwood tree (1) Timecop on DVD (1) The full Van Damme collection (1) A lock of Alyson Hannigan’s hair (1) A lock of Andy Kaufman’s hair (1) A dirigible, painted black (1) Smokey the Bear costumes (2) The gold spike driven into the ground by Leland Stanford that joined the east / west railroads (1)

I remember you animated the "pee on me" flower part, I either saw it online years ago or I'm mistaking it for another video. What video is that? Edit: Bino the Elephant. Still, somehow I already knew about that part in this script and I don't know why
