The things I could tell you about what happens after this point in the book could put you into an insane asylum XOXO

jinxik

To answer your question, the book does have a plot, it follows the same story as the show, but includes all the censored scenes and what was supposed to be in the next season of this discontinued show. There are quite a LOT of explicit smut scenes, some not so consensual, so it´s a read at your own risk typa thing.

Shady_NewYorker

for real! We have to give some many trigger warnings.

Resolution? happiness?? what is that??? we don't know her!

I've watched this series twice and I still don't understand the layout of this house

Renato

I remember not watching this series because I don't like the whole "bromance" genre (it's not my thing) but when I saw that the platforms were promoting as bl I decided to give it a chance and was the best decision I ever made. I love the characters, I love the music, I love the storie (they really took that toxic ass book and made something beautiful out of it), the main leads chemistry is crazy, I love everything about it.

As the resident insane beret who has read this book at least 20 times I shall name some huge differences between show and book: Major spoiler warning for Book 1 - The characters are completely different. Su yu is barely like Bai Luo Yin and Wu Bi is even less like Gu Hai - They do not have a soft, tender relationship. They are two hard-headed alpha men who barely work as a couple because BLY doesn't show/rejects affection and GH is insanely possessive and shameless. - Duo Duo who? Not in the book. GH got BLY a dog tho I guess. - GH had a girlfriend at the beginning of the book but she cheated on him. - GH's dad? Redemption arc? Never. When he found out about their relationship he forced them into an at-home DIY conversion therapy. GH dug a tunnel to connect their rooms and when dad found out he locked him in. When they escaped through some silly bullshit scheme the dad basically put a hit on them and chased them across the country. - BLY's ex girlfriend wasn't dating GH's cousin - GH SAed BLY infront of said ex girlfriend. - During the physical evaluation BLY was told he had HIV.....they mixed up their shit, he didn't but man that was drama for like...a second. - In the show at the end in a cut scene Su Yu tells his cousin that he won't leave Wu Bi but in the book BLY told the cousin to tell GH that he died and then joined the military never living up to his full potential as an incredibly intelligent person. After the car crash/hospital scene the first book ends🫠

Renato

And also, for me it's the fact that the cousin sabotaged Su Yu's car knowing that he would take his father to the doctor. He didn't even care if Su Yu's father would be in the car or not… JAIL TO THAT PONYTAIL BITCH. but on a real note, I don’t know how the second season are coming (audio book, audio series or even if it’s coming at all lol) but when it comes i’m gonna eat that shit up lol

Anna

THAT'S the ending???????? WHYYYyyyyy

achuuz

Oh I forgot to mention: The BOOK is 208 chapters long so yes. It's definitely a book😭😭

Shady_NewYorker

i remember how silly the tunnel thing was, the fact that they couldt find him for chapters. Meanwhile he was just in the tunnel chilling lolz I will say that the ring scene was a nice closure for the mom and Gu Hai.

The sad news is the show will never have a ss2 because the director (?) sold Stay With Me to a dubbing company (?) to make it into a stage play/radio drama or sth, but on a good note, despite the harsh censorship of China, the 2 main actors: Zhang Jiong Min (Su Yu) and Xu Bin (Wu Bi) are still able to work together as a 2-member boygroup call Midsummer Night, so fortunately we still see them hanging out and interacting outside of the show. They just put out an album recently actually so maybe you guys can check it out 😻 Also I suggest watching the BTS of the show, it’s really fun and their chemistry is even better irl in my opinion, maybe that’s why they decided to work together again as singers because they clicked

The author was like is this enough trauma 🤔. Nah, let's add more

delusional toxic blind bitch

This was like my third time watching this show and I still refuse to watch the last two episodes. It’s not over for me until I say so 😅 and today will not be the day I change that. I can’t do this and then the stress of his man and my stand in 😂

Darsh

yeah, it's a legit full size novel. It was an intense book ngl. It has its issues (s.violence, over the top dramatic incidents) but the characters are well written. It takes you on an emotional journey. It's two head strong characters with parental trauma, learning to love for the first time in their lives. If you don't mind flawed characters, the book can be entertaining. But there are lot of triggering things like others have mentioned. Addicted(2016) captures the essence of the characters more accurately, in this show they have softened them up to be more palatable.

Beyondme02

Yeah I was gonna say. Although I haven’t read the book, I have watched the original addiction series and that was kind of a lot. I’m sure the book has it’s entertaining moments I’m just not sure it will feel anything like stay with me

Darsh

yeah, I agree. Stay With Me is the best version. It's the most enjoyable one too.

Nicole H

This is my struggle. I’d love to have a full book of Wu Bi and Su Yu, but I don’t think I’m going to get that from the source material (from the parts I’ve read and after seeing Addicted). Not to criticize the book, it’s just different.

Lynn Pratt

Maybe a book reader can clarify for me, but I still don't understand Mo Yi's motivation. Was it just plain homophobia? Was it family business stuff bc he didn't want Su Yu in their company bc he's an outsider and thought a rags-to-riches kid would taint their reputation? Was he gunning to take over the company from old Wu once Wu Bi proved incompetant so he wanted Su Yu out of the way? Or was it jealousy bc he had actual incestuous feeings for his brother-cousin? I don't now, the show kind of gets too wrapped up in the moustache twirling and wine swirling to give us any concrete reasoning. Not to mention they just casually throw in stuff like that whole trip overseas he drags Wu Bi along for supposedly being a matter of life and death and him having to go to court at the end there, without telling us what he's actually gotten involved in. Honestly, that's the biggest flaw of the show imo. I'm a nosy bitch, I need answers!!

Gueret Gee

I saw the clip of su yu holding wu bi on twitter which is why I decided to start watching your reactions and the ending still got me 😭

Richard G

I feel like I've seen the final scene in this series a million times on other TV shows, even though how it happens makes no sense to me. You are driving along normally and suddenly the brakes don't work (including the hand brake that worked seconds before), the accelerator gets stuck, and (apparently) the ability to turn off the ignition is lost. I'm no auto mechanic, but how do TV villains rig a car to do all this? (in 2006, no less)

Arutha

It's so funny that episode 23 has the most expected ending fadeout/slide, but it's completely unnoticed because of #plot

Anna

Where can I find their music? I tried looking on spotify but couldn't find anything

David v

What’s the brothers motivation for all of these ?? I still dont get it ??

Darsh

The cousin has a one sided rivalry and a weird obsession (I'm not sure if it's incestuous) with Wubi so by extension he's obsessed with Su Yu. In the book, Wubi (Gu hai) talks about how his cousin is very possessive over his things and even stabbed Wubi once over a kite or something when they were kids. He looks at Su You like the shiny toy he can't get his hands on. It is kind of implied that he's sexually interest in Su You but of course Su You is not in to him so the cousin perceives Su You as a threat. He also hates that Wu Bi revolves around Su Yu. In the book, the cousin even outs Su You and Wubi's relationship to Wubi's father, knowing the man will go to any end to separate them. When that doesn't work out, he tried to kill Su Yu.

Darsh

Copy pasting my answer from another comment lol. Tbh I don't recall all the details but I will try. It is kind of implied that he's sexually interest in Su You but of course Su You is not into him so the cousin perceives Su You as a threat. He also hates that Wu Bi revolves around Su Yu. In the book, the cousin even outs Su You and Wubi's relationship to Wubi's father, knowing the man will go to any end to separate them. When that doesn't work out, he tried to kill Su Yu.

Ah, ok, thanks for the low-down on book Moyi! Now I feel like my confusion stems from show version being too cold and aloof. He doesn't appear to care about anything or anyone aside from the company legacy, certainly not Wubi. Sounds like book version is a lot more unhinged, wish we'd gotten that in the show instead of this cardboard villain.

Tesa

Finally watched the last episodes and I definitely made the smart decision to stop at 22 when it was airing lol I would have been a mess!!! It definitely was painful to watch now as well, but I was SO into their story back then.. I'm so glad I got to finish this with you!

Nicole H

Oh yes! I’d forgotten about this - thanks for sharing.

Sadie

WHY DID YOU MAKE ME WATCH THIS 😭😭😭

Abby

not the wife lyrics 😭😭

Jade

THIS! for how long that scene went on even without the brake the car would slow down and eventually stand still. he could also drive the care slightly against the curb to slow it down... it was so unrealistic how that whole thing happened...

Hayley B

I don't think that Wubi's dad invited Brother Cousin to work in the company because Wubi didn't want to. The company is also technically run by the Uncle too, so I think Wubi's dad just envisioned all of the sons working with their fathers. Brother Cousin thinks that SuYU and his mom have been plotting to take over the company the whole time, and that's why she married Wubi's dad, so her genius son could come in and steal the company from them.

Hayley B

At least that is the vibe I got while watching it, and Brother Cousin was first upset because he was jealous of WuBi not wanting to work with him, but then when he realized how connected SuYu and his family were to Wubi he made his own inferences (he also has been hearing Wubi's dad's side of the story when they were both abroad and how much trouble Wubi was giving him).

Hayley B

I also didn't connect the dots the first time I watched it but the reason Brother Cousin was wearing WuBi's clothes is because he said he "got dirty in the garage". I remember thinking it was weird that he did his own auto work, but now that I know how it ends, I am gagged that I didn't make the connection!

What a journey...I cried then laughed, then gasped each episode with you) i love this show, i love my boys, they are besties btw, very close irl, they post so many photos and videos together on instagram even these days. China released a bunch of bls this year, so `i` still hope...even after several years i still hope to get season 2. I know the plot, and it should be soooo damn good, only if they give it to us(
