The Mai narrative was REAL this episode, I was especially looking forward to this reaction because of how sure you were that iland creative would lose (so was I when first watching tbh) 🤭🤭

Yoon Jiyoon, the diva that you are. She is single-handedly carrying the entertainment factor of the show for me, like I am so excited for all her reactions. Also, when you mentioned Hanbin at the end, I really wondered about how he would fare in I-land as a competitor, like I know that he had super perfect image in Boys Planet, but I think I-land tends to showcase people a bit differently than Produce series, so I am just intrigued in what would have been his narrative.

el

I think he would've been at least a little more challenged on iland (more variety in challenges, more producer input), but I think the producers would've liked him and since he isn't lacking in any area, he'd probably still get through it well 🤔

Auburn

No. No. No. I don't care what the judges said. Lol. Ground Creative ate them up. I'm delusional and think the producers pushed the judges to make sure Ground didn't clear iLand. I loved Mai's narrative, but Ground was incredible. I nearly threw up I was cheering for them so much!

Auburn

and then Monika's VO to explain why iLand won sounded like ADR, like the producers knew the audience needing extra convincing that iland won 😂

SUJUNG DESERVED BETTERRRR

mmllon

I'm not one to cry at survival shows but Mnet really ate the i-land creative narrative up. Had me sniffling at Saebi's intro, then full on crying at those random pans to Juwon also doing the same. And then knowing full well the eliminations were accurate, I was still bawling at the end... I will say, from an original choreo standpoint, Sujung of course brought something literally professional-level to the table, but I really bought into that emotional storyline that Mnet edited so vigorously into the i-land performance (I think that comment about the year-end performance vs. a true kpop original choreo summed it up well, and it was for sure helped by the stage lighting/etc).

mmllon

Same here - I always wonder how the scoring goes. Like did they organically score the first two rounds, and then realize... oh shit, if ground wins, all of our faves are going to ground in that group of 9?

mmllon

Mnet has gotten great at the storyline rigging, to the point where even though I have eyes and can tell objectively when things are a bit fishy, I don't even care because it's great tv 😂

mmllon

Probably doesn't help that my faves so far have been Mai, Saebi, and Koko, and all of them won in their performances.....

Auburn

I'm having the same thought 👀 The producers want to make sure the girls that were in iland are getting the screentime and the votes, which will be harder if they're in ground.

mmllon

I really like the point that Adam and RJ made about them testing out people in different roles (i.e., Mai as leader this time vs. Jungeun/Fuko in past eps., or Jiyoon as vocal coach, or Sujung/Juwon/Yui as performance leaders). At the end of the day, they're putting together a group for 7 years, so even if the show might have their faves, the producers have to really nail who contributes what to the group, what chemistry would look like, and who might have untapped potential that they need to quickly discover in this trial period.

mmllon

This was my "oh, it's Mai for me" moment. I for sure thought I would be head-over-heels for the ground creative team once we saw the performance (and I was definitely impressed still), but man... Mai leader (truly giving me Euijoo vibes) and the whole i-land creative spectacle was chef's kiss

el

Tbh for me all three rounds could've been won by absolutely anyone and it would make sense, but I wouldn't be shocked if they did it this specific way for the juicy narrative, and I honestly don't hate it 🤭

onlyonlysun

omg she does give euijoo vibes!!! calm and caring and reassuring and dedicated.

Auburn

Hmmmm I'm picking up what you're putting down. They wanted to put Jiyoon and Jungeun back together so bad 😂😂

Lala R

I genuinely think that Saebi won it for them. Her star power in that performance was really strong with the intro and the diva walk in the middle. I’m not saying the other girls did bad but I will say Mai was verrry strategic with the choreo. Mai and Ling Ling also killed it.

mmllon

Mnet really got all that they wanted in this round didn't they.... a perfect 6 person swap, the juicy narrative of all of the expected teams losing, the "right" people eliminated, the leader arcs, the drama-ma-ma-ma with our vocalistas You have to hand it to their show writers...

mmllon

I LOVED that Saebi strut after the cartwheels... it's so accurate when Lee Jung said "they used things I would never have used" but made it WERK

Auburn

Truly! I'm having a great time 😂

sofia

i'm so in love with sujung. after the rain on me performance she became my 1 pick. the fact that i've watched the performance before yet still cried along with you both at ground creative team... oh kim sujung the woman you are <3

dnajjks

HAHAHAH 4:05 YOU GUYS HAVE ME CRYING LAUGHING AGAIN

I was brought to tears by iLand's creative team performance when I first watched it, and now. It was so emotional and even though in technical terms it maybe wasn't better than Ground, it was my favourite! Should it have won, I'm not sure, because Ground was also so strong and they also really impressed me. I also got so emotional at everyone helping each other, especially Jeemin & Chaeeun <3

When i watched this episode as it came out, I was one of the few who 100% understood why I-LAND won the creative unit. It seems to me that the two teams just interpreted the point of the challenge differently - ILAND chose to be creative directors, and GROUND chose to be choreographers. GROUND's choreography is unambiguously better, but it's emotionally one-note. They're confident and strong all the way through, even smiling in moves that could be emotionally like the mirror. ILAND started in one place and ended somewhere else. They aesthetically tied it into their journey and accessed a variety of emotions. Plus, they added whatever tricks they had on top of that. So I think it really came down to what the mentors thought was the point of the mission. Monika says they had a deeper understanding of the theme, and it reminded her of when she started out. You laughed and thought that Monika was being a little shady with some of her reactions and first comments to the ILAND team, but I didn't think that at all. I think she genuinely was moved, and in the end that probably pushed them over the edge a little.

Crav

Also it's kind of hard to be mad they won when three GROUNDers went up to ILAND and four ILANDERS went down, with two of them even being eliminated. Clearly, skill and effort were well rewarded for the creative team that didn't win.

I’ll wait to comment my final thoughts about this episode until you two finish the finale but this was the start of the descent into choice judging criterion.

Nicole S

The result of the creative unit battle didn't really bother me, because I mean, it's Mnet, and truthful assessments are a social construct in survival shows, but the discourse after this episode went crazy. You had people out here saying things like "Sujung deserved to lose this because other people have done mirror choreography, so it wasn't creative" girl what :') The really egregious part was the scores, they could at least have tried to make those look real by marking down the less good performers instead of expecting us to believe Yuju was the fifth best performer in this battle. I was a Saebi, Jeemin and Sujung girlie at this stage, and I think everyone knew they weren't just going to leave the Jiwons and Yeeun in I-land forever, so I don't think the actual end result was that upsetting but it was just funny. I'm going to start siding with that deranged person in your YouTube comments and demand daily reactions because I NEED to see the Ep 6 reaction. PS "she's doing text work to 'I'd rather be dry but at least I'm alive'" definitely needs to go into clips, iconic.

Lalari is shaking

jay

i'm sorry... you cannot convince me that iland creative should have won. and the judges seemed to give the weirdest reasons why ground lost

Pond’sPhuphu

Loved loved Mai and Saebi but there was no moves other than arms frailing around. I-land won cuz Mnet beat a sob storyline to death to spice up the boring choreo. You can’t tell me that I-land would’ve won without the Mai sob story narrative 😂

Pond’sPhuphu

Miss Yoon Jiyoon I love you so much 😂♥️

cabbage

actually ☝️🤓 Sujung was in Street Dance Girls Fighter 2, a spin-off with teens where contestants from Street Woman Fighter 2 (Bada lee, Jam republic, Mannequeen etc) are mentors

Shi Yau

if thats the case for the creative unit and how it was shown, honestly if i went on the show, i would FAIL miserably for the interim, because all you get is alil bit of feedback, but then the actual showing you just exceed expectation and win. Like it boggles me how Ground lost
