I was just about to rewatch this. Perfect timing. I love this show. It's my favorite HIStory series. The main cast's chemistry is so good. They still meet up sometimes, too. ETA: I've been in an elevator like that. It just keeps going in the direction you were going, and you have to press the button you initially pressed multiple times fast then press the floor you want.

Also, the actor who plays Meng Shaofei, Jake Hsu, is good looking. That haircut really did him wrong. He grew his hair out after the show and OMG. He's one of those people whose hairstyle can drastically change how they look, similar to Taerae imo.

I'm usually not a huge fan of mafia shows (usually a little too gritty for me) but this one seems like it has some goofy moments sprinkled in so that helps. Looking forward to seeing where it goes :) Edit: Also that bathroom had a mirror behind the urinals so that makes it even weirder?????

The officer that died was Shafei's close senior at the precinct and because she died with the leader of a gang, she's being accused of being a dirty cop. He's trying to solve the crime to clear her name. He explained it while talking to the captain at the 32 minute mark of this video.

The nostalgia is sweeping me away. This was my third BL I ever watched and I can't believe I never noticed the police precinct looks like the set from Bed Friend. Lol. Weird production aside, this was one of the only mafia/mystery BLs at the time and it was a GOOD ONE. I'm thrilled to watch it again

Somewhere between the Eiffel Tower, urinals, elevators, carpets, and Park Hanbin, the plot took off without me (in a good way), but that red-haired guy looked kinda dorky hot. Speaking of elevator fear. Try riding a paternoster lift and mess up the getting off and on part. It's a ski lift level of trauma: fear mixed with intense embarrassment.

I have been in elevators that can cancel the floor you have pressed, its not fantasy, you have to cancel them like in the beginning itself like how our ML does it here. If I cancel 5, on the 4th floor, its still going to stop on the 5th. So, there should be a significant gap 😁

I've seen this show mentioned so much but could never really get past the first 10 minutes so it'll be fun to watch it along with you instead! The guy who plays Tang Yi kind of reminds me of the guy from Advance Bravely with the tall dark and dangerous vibes (another one of those censored chinese BLs that manages to be gayer than actual BLs like Stay With Me).

Some general rules of thumb re: modern day Mandarin (Chinese/Taiwanese) names: Surnames are always first when spoken, and almost all surnames are one character/syllable (with a couple tens of exceptions of two character surnames still in use, i.e., Shangguan, Ouyang, etc.). For given names, it can be one or two characters (or even 3 - I've seen this once before with a Chinese celebrity). If you have a 2 character given name, people might refer to you by that two character name, rather than your full name (including surname), but if you only have one character in your given name, Mandarin-speakers usually like to use the full name (because 2 syllables sounds better than one alone). That, or a nickname like your given repeated twice over.

I didn’t initially like Shaofei as a character in the first couple episodes. He was too obsessed with the case from four years ago and it clouded his judgment and decision making skills. And it annoyed me that he was constantly breaking the rules and would never listen to the Captain.

Late to watching your reaction, never watched this series before but excited to watch together with you guys! Someone's already explained the naming convention, but to be specific about the characters here: Tang (surname / family name) Yi (given name / personal name), Meng (surname) Shao Fei (given name). As for carpets, I think its just the USA that's the outlier in having carpets everywhere haha. Also, whatever did octopuses do to you Adam 😭

I live in Kentucky…we only have elevators with push buttons inside. I’ve never seen one with a touch screen. Of course my city’s highest building is 5 stories.
