white having his veil of ignorance slowly lifted as he begins to adjust to black's lifestyle and comes to understand the class struggles of those around him is so peak that i can forgive him for being bad at acting as black ❤️

Darsh

my hot take is White being just a frustrating princess is what radicalised Black into the other direction

48:56 Dr Ally Louks would like to have a word with you, Adam 😂

its so interesting watching your reaction to this show. every other reactor was in love with this show and at the time it aired i remember all of us getting so excited. it seems like you guys dont really enjoy your time with it? or maybe i am seeing it wrong. haha it just seems like you guys have a problem with something in every scene...? and not just a funny little "oh my gosh so silly" like others but real issues with it. maybe i am just sensitive since this is my favorite thai BL show. :)

Boys Love Boys Love!

i think it’s just a slow burn, but also i hope us making jokes isn’t coming across that we don’t like what’s going on, we just remember how when we watched Love in the Big City and barely said anything because of how dark the show was, we wanna make sure we are still having fun or enjoying ourselves or make ourselves laugh 😅

inconsistent enjoyer

i remember when i watched this back in the day after i saw everyone hyping it up i thought that it wasnt all that, and then i remembered that this is a show meant for teens to watch and i was not a teen and then i started liking it more, its easy to digest! . But some aspects still eh, like sponsor ads feel... 🙃 The makeup in this was great, the 'extra dirt' feels unnecesary but the sweat and the bruises/wounds look *mwa*

So you agree, Love In The Big City is really dark.

This is a slow burn but its worth it, after the set up is over, it starts to get more gritty and emotional rather than informational. Admittedly I don't watch anything week to week to this is KILLING ME, but thank you for taking the time to react to this one, whether you will like it or not, its certainly a unique BL.

Yok my beloved ❤️ the most character of all time. Yok was apparently also Khaotung's favourite First character (until Kant usurped his place). A man of taste he is.

Ziggy_Zade

I admit I laughed way too hard at "show me your caulk". Well done.

Dancey Fun

It's so interesting I think when you watch a show make so much a difference with what things you just sort of don't notice or shrug off. I think when this came out it was a big deal. The fact that GMM would ever do a show like this in the middle of social unrest was unheard off. Plus there just wasn't a lot of gritty

inherent whimsy of bisexuality

i believe they gave gumpa's actor that haircut to keep viewers in line. they were like, "we can't have any more very hot people in this cast because then viewers wouldn't properly absorb marxist theory." anyway he takes his shirt off later so maybe not

Darsh

oh no, I know you probably didn't mean it that way. I meant it as a joke 😭

15:32. This shot is actually quite interesting, intended to be more than just a drone shot lol. I've seen people discussing how if you notice, it's showing a clear divide of the more impoverished city where Yok and the rest of the gang reside, to the much more bustling, skyscraper filled city with the following shot to White. It reminds me of a photo of I believe India with a similar composition. They do a lot of things like this to show the clear divide between the social and economical classes.

Boys Love Boys Love!

theres a scene in widows that has the same idea showing a car ride in real time that takes you from a very underserved community to a higher socioeconomic class very quickly - but yes i love that you pointed this out

Lol the reaction to boxing First. Those low cut jeans about did me in.

cabbage

i had the same reaction as RJam when i first watched this series, it is pretentious and has a lot of plot holes but it's still one of my fav BLs.

Lost Boy

It is easier to do normal romance shows like Bad Buddy or My School President (both my favs), but it is hard to do a show with such interesting social commentary specially pertaining to Asian diaspora with a shoestring budget and the cast shooting even when the show was already airing. This show was exceptionally put together by P’Nuchy. She won several awards for this show and rightfully so. Pretentious or not the social commentary was very timely and broke boundaries. EP 7 was peak socialism. P’Nuchy’s activism side just shines through in that episode. And for me, till this day, no one has been able to blend BL with such interesting characters and social commentary! P’Nuchy’s Mubi page if anyone is really interested to see her work - https://mubi.com/en/cast/anucha-boonyawatana Her film Malila was Thailand’s entry for Oscars. It also won an award in Busan International Film Festival.

I agree cabbage, there is a lot of problems with this show but I think what makes it so beloved is the heart behind it which is also kinda a slow burn

Lost Boy

The first three episodes are setup of White’s understanding of his privilege and his change of world view. It also lets us in into a completely new world and throws a lot of information at us in a languid pace so sometimes it can feel slow. But the pace is definitely intentional. If the director tried to incorporate concepts like Rule of Law vs Rule By Law, How diplomacy works, Heroes vs Vigilantes, and How Privileged people are oblivious to their privilege everything into one episode it would be a mess! The fruits of this labour will pay off later when the show picks up. So all I would say is, give them time! Everyone has different tastes. So we can’t expect people to like the same thing as us. I would also add that I don’t think the funny jokes here and there takes away from the reactions. Not to mention, I haven’t seen many reactors listen to the concepts and try to understand them like Adam and RJ does. Let them have fun while watching the show.

Jasmine

SYSTEMA! 🪥 When they said "realistic" they meant it. Your comment about the room smell reminded me you can truly feel and smell everything in this show..for better or worse 😅

Sarah Figueras

Just listened to y’all’s recap and I think you might have missed the part where Gumpa fully introduces himself to white. Like he knows he’s not black. He doesn’t outright say it but he heavily implies it.

The hao brain rot got to me cause when rj said interpol I immediately started thinking of “interpol🚨interpol🚨 international police🚨” 😭

Si tan solo vieran a First ahora en the heart killers, si aquí se ve bien ahí está para morirse❤️❤️❤️❤️🙇🏻‍♀️

Si chicos yo tampoco entiendo mucho de lo que dicen en la serie jajaja

just juni 🚬

I did not expect to actually enjoy this show the way I am, even the stupid or super corny parts are enjoyable to me, mainly because of the actors but I'm happy I decided to start watching it with yall!!

Giiiiiirl... a diplomat represents the people with other countries and different cultures. They try to mantain good relations.

YESSS also Nuchy is a really internationally known screen writer and her first feature length aka her THESIS FILM (uni thesis) 'The Blue Hour' was screened at the Berlinale and if that isn't an amazing achievement then i don't even know! she is a genius of visual story-telling and touches on complex topics in her work.
