Honestly the only reason I am able to somewhat enjoy Kingdom apart from the performances is because of the interactions between the groups and it becomes really apparent as the season progresses that the groups are not really in it to actually beat each other or present themselves as being better than the others they literally all support each other. The villain in all of this is mnet and I really hope that that is the consensus by now. Don't wanna spoil anything but there is literally a performance down the line where you kinda get the idea that the groups or some members of certain groups are like "fxck that shxt".

I dislike all of the “fighting” about this show. I don’t care about the points or the rankings, it’s just really good performances from some of my favorite groups that they don’t usually get to do. Not to mention seeing all of the interactions between the groups. I will take my Wooyoung/Changbin crumbs and be full. 😂

I think what Kingdom really did was cement the division between 4th gen and earlier gens for me, because the ZZZs all came out with that very specific kind of focus on performance and visual storytelling; meanwhile, the others were more about their own strengths (BTOB with their vocals, SF9 with their model-ism, iKON with their live performance energy). I don't think either approach is necessarily better than the other, everyone likes different things and that variety is what keeps kpop interesting! My theory is that the difference is in more live experience vs. performing for the camera - the younger groups didn't have that kind of live touring experience yet, as much as the others, and obviously covid put a pause on that for a while too. But Kingdom was when I truly realised that there was a shift towards preferring the more grandiose camera-performance approach in the industry overall, not just with these groups, because that's what had to happen for kpop to continue attracting the audience boom it had during the pandemic.

First time watcher and I will have to say the villain of this show is the camera work. Every performance I get so frustrated, haha. Like I'm gonna miss something (especially with The Boyz. Why was the camera so far away and shooting from under their set???). They did iKon so dirty with the camera and editing. Every time they did a trick, they cut to a reaction and then, didn't replay the trick or show how it completed. It's a shame!

It was so fun to watch you guys get captured by a different member of icon in each scene lol. reminds me of when I started watching their variety stuff. I really love the pace of kingdom episode 1 is probably as slow as it gets and even that's pretty exciting if you're getting introduced to the various group. I feel like from here it's just amazing performance after amazing performance.

I watched this show to learn about new groups, see new performance stages, and to see interactions between the groups. I, personally, couldn't care less about the competition aspect. If it happens to inspire someone to write Sangyeon/Bang Chan literature, that's a great bonus in my eyes.

I kept up with Kingdom in real time only knowing SKZ but its groups like SF9 and BTOB who really left an impression on me after the show ended. I'm so glad y'all get to watch Kingdom and I can't wait to see what you think of some of the later performances!

Hopefully BTOB and SF9 can make it to Beloved of the Month this year. I just love the show for the performances and the friendships made and how we still see many members of these groups have collabs and close bonds.

Loving this rewatch!! I saw Kingdom right when I was getting into Kpop (and no- I didn't watch RTK either and still had a wonderful fun time watching) and had no idea who anyone apart from Stray Kids was, so coming back to this after you all also did the Ateez and Boyz deep dive is making the experience so much richer. Apart from the performances (which are phenomenal)- it is SO fun to see the groups fangirl out over each other. It's so sweet and genuine and I am also puzzled about the inter-fan wars that erupted because of the show. Whatever Mnet does is on Mnet, but these groups loved performing and competing with each other, and so many really lovely friendships came out of the show. Glad you all are bringing attention to the lack of inter-group drama because there is truly none.

(i watched this show originally as a stray but walked away in love with btob and ateez, so the vibes were contagious.) i know that the intro ep was supposed to be more of a teaser and let the groups see the level they needed to bring for the first round, but this round does end up feeling more representative of each group imo. also i hope deobis trust that you'd be the last people on earth to ever start hating (unless we're talking about hating mnet which is a perfectly natural response)

Actually, Ateez, The Boyz and StrayKids’ full performances on Mama 2020 were their announcement for Kingdom. The three individual performances culminated in the triangular fight you watched (which would’ve made more sense with the individual performances). The performances were superb. I recommend you watch them.

One of my favorite parts of this show is all the group reactions/ interactions. I always find it so funny though how most of the friends almost pretend like they don't know each other when on the show. Like Peniel was a JYP trainee and was one of the first people that Bang Chan met when he moved to Korea. When Chan's mom brought little 15-year-old him to the dorm to move in, they knocked and Peniel opened the door and introduced himself in just his boxers lol. Also, Sunwoo and Han are also good friends. Sunwoo said he walked up to Han when he first met him and slapped his butt and said, "You're good at raping. Give me your number." lol and I love that for them.

i feel the need to apologize on behalf of stupid deobis damn. to speak my truth, i think bright or elegant concepts represent them better and are something unique that they bring to the table so i totally got what you meant. but sadly people (straight men) think that theyre less cool or take less effort than dark or agressive stuff so tbz were probably pressured to fit that narrative as well. a lot of post stealer deobis do not know shit btw (i am one i can shittalk them)
