I honestly think Beat Bench was better than Rhythm starting. JL had more than half the song because he's literally the only vocalist in the entire team. Beat Bench spread lines out the difficult lines to Li Ziwei, Jiang Fan and Juhyuk whereas Rhythm just looks like the JL show.

Lol glad you guys are starting to warm up to Chih En. His friendship with Shuaibo is cute and yes, he does have a similar awkward vibe as Kamden. His ending fairy was a jumpscare for a lot of people, and he became "Larry" so many times in that one tiktok sound that that became his unofficial nickname amongst viewers. Shuaibo was always tall. I think in Boys Planet he just had a tendency to chill in the back or sit in the corner somewhere that you don't actually notice his height. Also, they're totally going to MILK the whole Woongki/Kyungho beef. I've seen people say things like "Oh they don't like each other" or "Their interactions in the group was all fake" but I see it as like work friends situation. Like, I have people I work with who I've gotten to know well, gotten pretty close to and we talk a lot but when they leave the company, a lot of the times, we end up growing apart and eventually losing contact. It doesn't mean something bad happened between us nor does it mean we weren't ever close, it just that we grew apart over time and are on different pathes in life and maybe a different person now. That's what at least what I saw with Woongki/Kyungho. But SBS is definitely making Kyungho to be the villian...a very good looking one. He definitely has the face to play a bad guy, someone get him on a drama.

I mean KINDA shortly.. I am not gonna talk about the trademark issues - that was between the agencies and basically WakeOne did whatever and ended up being unbothered even tho they were partially in the wrong too. Also keep in mind that this is from my own biased perspective of a fan from back then. Woongki went on a full hiatus due to anxiety and it was clear he was struggling. (There were more reasons honestly.. shamed online for being a fruity slayer, badmouthed by schoolmates who were not abiding the covid precautions bcs he called them out, etc..) But honestly the Woongki and Kyungho drama is -probably- (we cannot know for sure like we werent there lol) blown out of proportion for story line, you can even see in UL behind-the-scenes Kyungho coming to the same hallway as Woongki and after spotting a signal from stuff off camera he suddenly stops and goes away lol. Also back then in TO1 (which was after that one rebrand already btw) one member Chihoon left basically by himself. After that we have not heard from TO1 for a while but there was an update on their site which suddenly lacked 3 other members and there were different boys we didnt know instead. People were confused and mad, IT WAS ONLY AFTER THIS that WakeOne announced Woongki, Seongmin and Minsu leaving the group and other three guys joining instead. The statement went: "WAKEONE and TO1 members took time to reflect on our activities of the past two years and think hard about the group’s leap into the future. We were open to all directions and tried to find the best solution, and after continuous discussion, TO1 decided to take on new challenges through the re-establishment of team identity and refining the direction of the team. First, after an in-depth conversation about the team’s identity and direction, members Min Su, Jerome, and Woong Gi decided to leave TO1 and prepare for a new start." Well.. the question everyone asked themselves was "how the hell do those three not fit any possible concept?". We got the answer quickly after seeing the next concepts since they were more centered on conventionally masculine feeling. And literally anyone could connect the dots that those three members who "left" were the more conventionally feminine ones. They even had an unofficial subunit called "TOOWICE". Therefore the general idea is that they just wanted to try to raise the popularity by making the group more masculine and thirst worthy for fans which was bonkers like I literally loved the group for the different antics and clashing of their individualities. And I am very convinced that the production team just didnt know how to navigate that bcs they didnt capitalize on it. Go watch TO1 cover stages like Someday, Next Level and I cant stop me, the shifting vibe of different members was imo actually really great in these. Some time after the statement there were rumors about Woongki and Seongmin going on Boys Planet and yeah you know the rest. Just imagine LONG PAUSES with no updates between everything. Obviously it is entirely possible that the members did not really have a chance to talk about the whole situation and there indeed are unresolved feelings on both sides but frankly who knows lol??

My hot take of this episode is that both Ignition performances were great for diferent reasons, even tho Rythm was a bit better overall. But the song itself is SO generic hard masc boy kpop that it sucks any enjoyment I would get out of it. Like, putting it side by side with El Capitxn's song just made it even MORE generic sounding.

EL CAPITXN freakin' loves Woongki. Pretty sure he even mentioned Woongki during the press conference for this show. If there's a Woongki's biggest Fanboy contest and EL CAPITXN is there, just go home, you're not winning. I'm convinced he already has songs ready for a Woongki solo album lol.

i tend to be a serial lurker, but i was a toogether (too/to1 fan) from their first debut in 2020, so i follow them all pretty closely -- and i watched unileague as it aired just for kyungho and woongki lol. and i wanna said i think you're both pretty on-point with saying that both of them kind of just wanna put the group behind them and move on. obviously some of them are still on better terms with each other than others - their leader told people to vote for kyungho and woongki, for example - but no one really wants to look back on to1 either. the problems started even before they were solo managed by wakeone; i think all of them have a level of trauma re: how everything rolled out. another member who was with the group for its entire run -- jisu, one of the main dancers with kyungho -- openly said on his instagram shortly after to1's disbandment was announced that he didn't enjoy dancing anymore because of his experiences with the group and he doubted he'd ever post a dance video again... so yeah lol it was pretty damn bad. it makes a loooot of sense that kyungki feel weird about each other, even if it makes me very sad :'(

While Beat did well against Rhythm, I think overall, Rhythm was better.. take out JL & Jiang Fan, Rhythm was better performance wise... I just wish for the focus person to do more than stand and sing most of the time when they are in focus.. IDK, it felt like there were less movement from the focus person in Beat when they were singing. Jiang Fan overall moved and danced a lot but it felt like it was just him. JL overall danced and sang a lot but at least he wasn't the only one who was constantly moving. I am also a fan of the vocals of Rhythm more even though JL had the most lines. There's a few I can point out in Rhythm who I am not a fan of the vocals/performance but I can point out more in Beat that I am not a fan of their vocals/performance more. Also, if you watch a comparison video of the two performing wide shot, which is what the audience sees, Rhythm had neater moves especially towards the end. It felt like some Beat trainees lost energy. And Rhythm had a very dynamic/interesting choreography from start to finish. And even though JL had most singing parts, he was still more stable than the other vocalists in Beat who had the same parts as him and who also tend to have less dynamic movements in their dances while singing. Changsub's early-gen throwback really hit the spot (and stepped on quite a few Starlight toes), when this first snip of "Prison" came out. I still don't mind the borderline copy-paste of the piano intro from "Error" (aka one of the greatest Kpop songs released and the mother of dark concepts), because he was so clear about this being the strategy. Maybe he'd taken less heat, if he'd mentioned VIXX on screen too. The BEAST ("Fiction") inspiration is also pretty prominent. Watching Changsub's strategizing and mentoring is still one of the best parts of UL. We should all talk more about how beautiful Woongki is. I think it's the increased screentime that's really making me realize just how strong his visuals are.

What I want to add to this: Looking at TO1's concepts after Woongki/Seongmin/Minsu's departure it's not like the group became super masc all of a sudden, I would describe the two main releases after that maybe as "boyish" or "playful", definitely concepts that would've totally been in their wheelhouse

Also, just want to add in that TOO/TO1 formed on a survival show and were voted into the group, so what Wakeone did was basically kick out members who were voted into a survival show group, and they were among the more popular ones, too, especially Woongki and Seongmin.
