The guy who gives aoki lessons was the main role in a BL before! It's called Life:Love on the Line, it's a japanes BL classic for me and it's so good, i really hope you react to this one some time in the future. It's only 4 episodes, or the directors cut movie (2 hours i think). The movie would be better since they added a lot of scenes there. <3

I love that the show is all about being who you are. I actually also do like ep 8 as it shows that sometimes people are prejudiced and may dislike you for being yourself but that doesn't make what you are bad. I also like that ep 8 gives Ida some sassy moments as well as him outwardly showing how much he cares for Aoki. Adam should read the manga tho to get the complete story as when this was made the manga was not complete thus why it's so short.

A really good "Bl/Gl" I recommend is "Favortism of God" or Kamisama no Ekohiiki!! Even if just in yalls own time, it is super good. It has a gender swapping kind of storyline and follows two guys and two girls who crush on each other in a convoluted way bc of the body swapping lol. It's emotional and funny, just an overall good time

this show is def one of my fav bl's, primarily bc it does a great job of mixing earnest emotions and laugh out loud humor (hashimoto's pompadour debacle is comedy gold). and totally agree that episode 8 is the best of the best! when aoki tries to play off mr. okano's behavior as nothing and ida very calmly replies, "it is a big deal" i always burst into tears 😭 another japanese bl that does this well to me is "i cannot reach you"! a similar high school setting, but it leans more into the struggle of having feelings for your childhood best friend. it's not quite as goofy (i say with affection) as mix up, but still has a lot of great moments. hopefully you'll get around to watching that one too (if you haven't already)!

It may have been said already but just in case, Meguro Ren (Ida) and Shunsuke Michieda (Aoki) are in the Jpop groups, Snowman and Naniwa Danshi respectively, which are the two groups who sing the opening and endings of the show as well. Another fun little fact to tie some kpop into the mix is that Meguro Ren interviewed Kim Taehyung on a japanese variety/morning show (?). It's very easy to find it on youtube subbed.

My comfort BL, delighted to see others love it too❤️ I hope we get some more JBLs, 'Old Fashion Cupcake' is well worth a watch - it's short (5 20min episodes), so it could be watched in one sitting (like while we're waiting for next week's poll ... can't blame a bi-ret for trying😅) , and there's so much to unpack with it, really hoping it's an option at some stage. OFC, Moonlight Chicken and IPYTM have my next votes, can't wait to see what next week's options are 😁

1:07:13 to clarify, the subtitles were using singular they. The original Japanese wasn't using any pronouns whatsoever, because Japanese doesn't need pronouns to form gramatically correct sentences. Sentences containing verb + object only are completely fine, the subject has to be deduced from the context.

Hi Adam and RJ! The actor playing Okano Sensei has also been in a BL drama where he plays one of the leads. If I’m not mistaken, it was before he got married. I highly recommend you watch it! It’s one of my faves! The BL is Life~ Love on the Line. The director’s cut is available on Viki 😊 He is definitely hot and gorgeous there as well 😅

I've just binge watched your reactions to this show and I can honestly say that this may be one of my favourite BL's. Like its just such a sweet series. I love the mature conversations they have about falling in love and being with each other, episode 8 imo really deals with the concept prejudices really well, but honestly its Aoki for me that I just absolutely adore. He's so endearing as a character and I think the actor plays him so well, I also forget how funny Aoki is! Definitely top 5 for me 🫶🏻
