I don’t know how to say this without exposing myself. But as a person who was a virgin for wayyyyyyy longer than the average American, there is something that turns into a power tripwithin it. I think part of it is him disguising that power trip as him being a hopeless romantic because he is a little bit more cleancut, but really it is the power because you’re automatically different than anyone else around you and that makes you feel inevitably more special. Even though it’s a stupid reasonto. I think Mew likes having this power and you’ll see it later as it develops that that truly was it. But I immediately recognized it the first time he started negotiating. Tops power comes from always getting what he wants and Mew’s power is withholding the thing he truly does. It’s why the relationship is so toxic and why they had to eventually restart. Mew’s innocence isn’t naïveté it’s his weapon. They set up immediately that that is the most interesting thing about him in the first episode and everyone’s obsession is about how to get him laid. He is the center of the group because of this innocence and he likes it. He is not as sweet as we are told that he is Also the way Sand always has to physically shake off the feels he has when he looks at Ray as to like set himself straight has my heart.

I think Mew would see Top giving up substances as a show of care, and he values that in a partner. That's why he would sleep with him. HOWEVER, Top is still a lying, cheating asshole. I do stand by my previous comments about Mew being on the asexual spectrum. I am not sure if it's intentionally written that way, or if the writers are that familiar with the complexities of different asexual identities.
