XX. Aqua Vitæ

The sun’s a burning eye.

The clouds will spread like molten lead.

The waves above make waves below.

The screens go dead far overhead.

A wobbly clock inside the sea.

Melody line inside my head.

This is a sea Shanty,

like those old British folk songs that Pentangle sang.

A memory?

Or one of those songs that I heard long ago...

They’ve come before and will again.

We’ll shift our souls from pole to pole.

The sea can boil like varnish oil.

The magnets spin like mortal sin.

Let the moon call in the tides,

volcanoes vomit molten rock.

Inconstant stars shape what we are.

Molten lead,

Aqua Vitæ.

I will die to be reborn alive.

I am just a moment in time

hap-en-ing right now.

Experiencing infinite possibilities...

Life is like an ocean,

as deep...

And yet I sit in safety

On this endless shore

Never really knowing just

How big an iceberg

Dares to grow.

That's great! If there's a Shanty Rhythm, this lyric's got it.

Would you please post this on Tumblr, and your verse in general. I just bored myself for 15 minutes going thru Tumblr postings looking for fun - time wasted. This is so much better than almost anything showing up there.

Oh… thank you, hermano. I hadn’t thought of posting my poetry on Tumblr because I hardly use it and I don’t really have an audience there. Sometimes I feel as though no one is truly interested in what I write… so the fact that you read my poems feels like a real blessing to me. Do you think it would be a good idea to start sharing them on Tumblr anyway—perhaps DEIPARÆ SACRVM and some of my other verses? I’d love to hear what you think.

Frankly, I don't have an audience either - the number who consistently look at my poems is exactly three - but that number is higher than zero. Occasionally someone "reblogs" my post, and readership may soar to ten. The way to get any "audience" is to inpect others' posts tagged poetry, and follow anyone who's not a waste of space, giving their stuff likes when appropriate. I suppose all this is obvious- I'm really asking so that what i read there would be less boring, higher quality. What does "truly interested" mean for posting poetry on the web? As far as I can see it means having a poem read - all the way through - which you can only tell if they give it a like, which I certainly don't do for every thing I read. Or at a higher level of interest if someone reblogs or even comments to you on what you wrote (I sometimes do that, but you know well I'm a compulsive typist). Your poetry is vivid, often seductively puzzling, unusual by any standards, physical, concrete, emotional, spiritual and mystic all at once - you do a great job of intimating the inescapable fusion of the most utterly visceral experience with the barely-visible, starkly abstract world of pure concepts. As for dealing with Tumblr, of course it could be another drain on your time - it certainly is on mine - it's up to you. The meekest, most timid plea for recompense for reading your poetry closely would be if you were to look at some of my recent Tumblr posts = pretentious, stilted stuff compared to yours. I've been posting verse a little more frequently lately.
