During the coloring process of [ Biram / Ororon ] Bigger Radishes HD (+ process + PSD) I particularly liked the pre-rendering stage, which made me curious to try cell-shading coloration again.
Why cell-shading, when I can go full-render? First, because I always enjoy experimenting and I like having options! Second, because you're not supposed to blend, this method forces you to learn muscles shapes so it's an interesting exercise!
And here I say it: I admire artist who can make cell-shading illustrations look interesting so much, because every time I try to pull it off it simply... does not spark joy.
So at this stage (1st half) I gave up and began rendering (until 2nd half) 🥲
I just LOVE rendering flesh to the point you can almost imagine how it feels if you touched it... making it meaty, sweaty, juicy... BUT I lowkey wish I worked in the cell-shading until the end, because I'm convinced that it has potential, too, but that I just don't know how to approach it! While the full-rendering outcome still remains my favorite, I am still intrigued by the cell-shading...
I'm just not foolish enough to to full-render with my comics so comic pages are usually my testing ground... and you simply have no idea how many times I started with "ok this one is gonna be cell shading" and ended up with blending all outlines 😂 there's an additional reason to this and it's that the Posterize Filter doesn't really work if colors aren't blending into one another! Maybe cell-shading it just not my thing haha

I'm attaching to this post 2 videos that I believe showcase pretty well how I render and can be useful!
