We officially broke beyond 100 pages with this one!! HoS is now 114 pages long 🥹💜

Wriothesley and Neuvillette side-story was never supposed to be this long, but I'm so happy I decided to expand on their backstory because the making of of their part is extremely... I would say fun but the nature of the content makes the word quite inappropriate haha. Let's say I'm really enjoying it!! It's been a great opportunity for mixing artworks and fics, drawing more backgrounds and experimenting different kind of visuals!

This is the last episode of Neuvillette's backstory, with the next one we'll be back to the present with is storyline too and it will evolve going forward. There's so much more I can't wait to tell! I hope you're enjoying the story!! ...despite the angst 🙈

Maleficar did an INCREDIBLE job with this fic! 💙💙💙 I went to her with my ugly draft like "let me know if this is enough or you need more input" and she came back with this absolute masterpiece! The middle part at the café was nonexistent and if I had to brainstorm it, it could've never comparable - this is simply PERFECT! She portrayed Varka absolutely masterfully and the way he talked to Neuvi made me actively ship that and I nearly wanted to make them an actual couple asdfgh

Keiki once more supported me in the making of this, coloring panels, sharing ideas and commenting on the (too many) options I had brainstormed to make this episode come to life! In each and every comic I draw there would be so many missing details if it wasn't for their careful eye that catches all of them 🙏💚

Did you guess anything of what happened with Varka based on the previews? 👀

I was totally on the "Wriothesley could be dating Varka" train so this crash was delicious. Varka knows fleeting comfort so well, that you have to catch what you can when it's available, no matter how brief a chance life gives you 😭 actually the bit that was hurtiest to me was how vulnerable Neuvi looks in the first page, when he's giving up to these new strange emotions for the first time. He trusts Wriothesley so deeply. 🫠🫠🫠 and I'm also intrigued by his imaginings, like are Clorinde and Wriothesley really together? Is the stranger simply that, or someone we all know? 🤔🤔🤔 Either way, love the update, knives in all the right places.

god my heart hurts so bad. 100% did not see Neuvi and Varka coming. My heart just goes out to Neuvi, and I desperately want him and Wriothesely to get to forge something together again, even if it is new; new shapes, new angles. The fic was gorgeous, as was the art, as always. The way Neuvi looked up at Varka in the last panel. God. He's so vulnerable right now, and seeing someone so powerful and ancient have these vulnerable moments hits. On the edge of my seat for more.

You know, i could also go on for ages about how interesting I find the panelling choices in this, because I was intrigued right from the moment I noticed you'd split the panel in the first page that you'd used as the teaser on another post, and I just...the way the previous life's Wriothesley and Neuvillette are so open with each other, always in sync, always looking at one another, whereas everyone else is just that little bit out of step...I love the way you did that. Still thinking about Clorinde, too, like is it just Neuvillette’s imagination? Or if they are together, is it a result of these tampered memories, like Wriothesley feels drawn to her, but it has manifested differently to what it was in the past because the present is so tangled and torn? Ooh yeah, much fun to think about. Thank you as always for a wonderful update!

I definitely saw Varka trying to comfort someone. I just didn't know who it would be. I kinda thought it would be Wrio as well since I know they're a pretty popular ship. But I was HELLA pleased and surprised it was VarNeu. So good. So juicy 🤌🏻🥴

Oh my god, the fucking expression in that last panel is DEVASTATING. You know how people will talk about seeing that thousand yard stare on someone who is feeling things on a level you can't begin to comprehend and they're just going through the motion of life? You told that entire story with just that one drawing. That single panel could nearly tell the story of this entire section of the comic, I don't know how the hell you got so many layers of FEELING in that, but whatever you're doing is working. I was ready to come down here and cry about you twisting the old knife that's been in my side since I started reading HoS, but THAT alone just stabbed in a new one. Idk, that one drawing just speaks a LOT to me and I know that expressions are important for artists, especially comic artists(I still struggle greatly with them, but I also don't practice enough), and I just needed to make sure you understand how much you NAILED it.

I may have missed something in previous chapters. Why does neuvi think wrio purposefully had Dottore take away his memories? I thought they found out that wrio was unwilling and Dottore took his memories anyways/experimented on him? (unless he didn’t and my memory of the older chapters is failing me)

Wrio did in fact not seek Dottore's help to get rid of his past memories, you're right that he was a victim of Dottore! In the previous chapter, Dottore told Neuvi that Wrio was "mumbling in his sleep about a majestic dragon" and those dreams/memories tormented him, using it as an excuse to justify his experiments, which is why Neuvi believes Wrio was "running from them (the memories)".

I'm so happy that hollow expression of Neuvi reached you so deeply, the strong emotions I bring out in HoS are so important for me to communicate and I've been trying my hardest since day one! I still remember I was literally CRYING, I've been in tears for two days, to mimic Zhongli's desperation right after Baizhu's passing... Varka dropped and became an essential character in Neuvi's storyline as quickly as Neuvi himself had become essential for Zhongli's un-stoning (and the whole comic) 🙏 before Varka, I had so many confused and overly complicated alternatives for Neuvi that they all simply felt wrong. You described Varka perfectly for those qualities that made him fitting in this scenario! As for Wriothesley's encounters, they're all part of Neuvillette's imaginatio and none is confirmed 👀

I love that Varka is such a lone wolf, that he gives himself body and soul in service to something greater than his own desires; the knights of favonius in the past, the law in this life. But then he had these moments where he unashamedly takes what he needs, and him showing Neuvillette how to do the same, when Neuvillette too has been so long in service to those other than himself...it's such a cool narrative contrast, to have Neuvillette in the past giving all of himself so trustingly to Wriothesley while being so new to the idea of sexual intimacy, contrasted to the present where he has a one night stand strictly for fleeting comfort and contact. Especially given the conversation where Varka says he'd not give up even his worst memories, but Neuvillette, having lived so much longer this life of constant service, thinks that he would give them up, if only for a little peace 😭😭😭 And although Clorinde and Wriothesley are only in that poor dragon's imagination, I still enjoy imagining it because it's as if the two of them have a connection through the trust and camaraderie of their previous lives, but because of the murkiness of time it's turned physical, but even then something feels like it's *missing*, so they start inviting beautiful men and women to share their bed, and...yeah. So many fascinating possibilities.

okay no cause i actually love varka as a pairing with neuvi and was HOPING you'd do a husband swap / 4some like you did with zhongzhu/haikaveh and zhongzhu/wriolette, but instead its zhongzhu and varflins 0w0. although tbh i think in the HoS AU, neuvi and varka may not go so well together. maybe though... cause i mean varka and wrio are pretty similar in a lot of ways. idk! anyway this was another great chapter, thank you kira and keiki and maleficar!! :3

Ok…. Hear me out… while yes… Neuvi learned love from Wrio. It doesn’t mean he can’t have some degree of love again. Will it be on the same level as with Wrio as his fated pair?
