Art yapping about the new brush I tried:Today I felt brave and decided to face the kind of brush I was afraid of: the inking brush. I find low opacity brushes comforting, because I can trace light strokes that still make me feel like I'm sketching, then darken lines I'm sure about and thicken outlines later on, while the pitch black of ink brushes are instantly "definitive" in a scary way haha
Lately, though, my brush strokes have grown more confident and I've been wondering if using an ink brush would make me faster. Without the element of variable opacity, I wouldn't have to spend extra times darkening this or that part and I could fully focus on lines thickness...
The positive news is, this attempt didn't feel scary at all! On the other hand, I'm not sure I prefer the heavier look of these inked lines to my usual, softer, lineart?
Initially I thought "surely the inked brush works nicer with halftones", but after comparing the two... I think it's just a matter of taste.
I'm leaning a lot towards my usual inking style, but I recognize it's a preference entirely dictated by habit. For fair judgement, I should esperiment more with the ink brush and learn how to master it; I'm also curious to see how it works with my coloring style!
For now, is there a type of lineart you like better? ("I don't see the difference" is also a valid choice cause yes you can tell there are darker strokes but at the end of the day it's not a huge change haha)
And what brush is the inking brush I used? Just a default Photoshop brush I edited a little by adding noise and squishing its tip to make it from round to oval! You can download it below if you want to give it a try, but it's nothing special, really hahaThe brush dimensions I used were 10-15-20 pixels; for reference my canvas are usually 2600 pixels on the shortest side, 300 dpi!
