Hellooooo! I can't thank you all enough for recommending and voting for this movie. My god, this was a masterpiece. I feel silly for not having watched it sooner. It was so powerful, with a lot of depth, amazing acting and a heart wrenching story. Having recently watched Matt Damon in the Bourne Movies, and The Martian, I totally didn't expect him to play a character that was so rough and tough, but also vulnerable. This felt like a very different role for him, and he did an amazing job. Robin Williams was also so moving... we seriously need to watch more movies with him!!

I've heard about this movie a lot but never watched it... Maybe an occasion?

ButtercupsTrueLove

I'm just as impressed with the writing credits for the film as I am with the young actors. It's a screenplay with great emotional depth.

This movie is a treasure. Other Robin Williams movies I really like. What dreams may come 1998 Jumanji 1995 Dead Poets Society 1988 Hook 1991 Awakenings 1990-also has Deniro One hour photo 2002-weird The Fisher King 1991-also has Jeff Bridges Basically any on his filmography. Thanks guys!

I know, we'd always heard about it too, but I had no idea what it was all about.

My favorite movie … and agree with Ian A (no relation but great name), Williams’ filmography is insanely good. I tend to prefer the sadder/darker ones (What Dreams May Come, The Fisher King, One Hour Photo, Good Morning, Vietnam) but it’s hard to go wrong with him and he is so missed. And for a more lighthearted films of his, I’d recommend The Birdcage.

Practically all of those movies named are as good or nearly as good as Good Will Hunting. Also, Patch Adams and The Birdcage. Robin Williams wasn't just the GOAT in terms of comedy (his turn as Mork in the show Mork & Mindy is iconic and legendary, and his improv stand-up is unparalleled), but he is one of the greatest actors to ever live.

Oh, and let me add Good Morning, Vietnam!, Mrs. Doubtfire, Insomnia, The World According to Garp, and Bicentennial Man to the list. As I said, one of the Greatest actors EVER!

My favorite story about Robin Williams has to be that he attended Juilliard and was essentially kicked out for being TOO good LOL!

Ian A

Yes, 1000% Good Morning Vietnam. Can't believe I missed that one. Though that shows how good his filmography is.

ButtercupsTrueLove

For a Robin Williams recommendation, "Bicentennial Man" (1999). For a Ben Affleck-directed film, "Gone Baby Gone" (2007). For another Boston-centric film, Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" (2003).

Two recs from me for Robin Williams films would be: -Mrs. Doubtfire -Dead Poet's Society Yeah, this movie is something else. So unbelievably good. That "It's not your fault" scene brings tears every time. RIP, Robin. The universe has lost one of its brightest stars.

The best Matt Damon movie is still Team America: World Police

Nathan Jasper

Yeah his teacher, Professor Houseman said they didn't have anything more they could teach him that he'd be wasting his time staying! He was just THAT talented

Man has to be in my top 5. The monologues were so good, the chemistry between the friends, with Skylar, with Robin Williams is insane. It feels so grounded and real. Love this reaction.

MaplenutsReact

Oh wow, yeah that says a lot about his talent. And that would have been early in his career too right?

MaplenutsReact

All the movies on our poll are 90's, so that seems early for sure!

Nathan Jasper

the 90s was a special decade, man every decade had one thing going for it but the 90s had everything going for it

JaxonDanger12

Awesome movie; awesome reaction! Been so long since I saw this. But I do still remember watching Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck on stage excepting the Oscar for the screenplay so amazing for them at that age.

Brien

I would love it if you reacted to Rounders with Matt Damon! Since you're currently watching Matt Damon movies.

A lot of good recommendations for Robin Williams movies in the comments, but he also had a big standup comedy career and I can recommend at the very least his Live on Broadway special (2002) and Weapons of Self Destruction (2009). Forewarning: he is *intense*.
