Hey Folks! So we reached the end of phase 3 in the Marvel Universe. Before I start phase 4, I've been told I need to catch up on a whole lot of other comic movies and even some TV shows. So we're starting a new journey through some old school comic movies - beginning with the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man ones! I'm going to keep releasing comic movies every Thursday, so I hope you'll join me!

Awesome movie! Literally my childhood! Excited to watch!

R.I.P. Macho Man! Can't wait to watch this, though.

when Peter had the body change Tobey actually just did workouts for about 6 months then they shot the scene !

Willem Dafoe kills it in literally everything he's in. Watching this makes me want to watch The Lighthouse again... then maybe The Florida Project again... then maybe everything else he's done. Also, I'm a big fan of how these Spider-Man movies put a focus on the common people. Peter's all about saving people, and this has a lot of scenes from the perspective of regular people. Not many superhero movies do that anymore.

Not only are those two great Willem Dafoe performances, those are two of the most visually beautiful films I have ever seen. I just want to inhabit all of those environments and hang out with these weird-ass people!

Superhero Thursday sounds like a winner to me! Raimi might have been a bit cheesy in how he made the Tobey films but man do they survive. Nostalgia's a powerful thing and even newcomers love them! It's like... a connection to a time lost, before the heartache and trauma set in, you know? When movies coming out were exciting every weekend not just every summer. Willem Dafoe is a master at simultaneously playing a maniac and a villain. Love his performance.

if you have seen True Blood, Flash Thompson is played by a young Joe Manganiello who played Alcide in True Blood and is in reality married to Sofia Vergara. I guess Peter knocking some sense into him changed his life lol

"The Florida Project" is a small film with a big heart! Like Mark Ruffalo, Dafoe likes to take on a variety of roles and not just big budget movies.

Okay, about to watch. I remember really liking these films for the most part. I guess I was around 18 when this came out. Most of my friends had issues with the Goblin costume, but as someone who grew up watching Super Sentai stuff, I was into it; but honestly, Willem Dafoe could have played the role without a mask, given the way he contorts his face! (To anyone reading this, if you've never seen the original Green Goblin mask for this movie, look it up on YouTube. It was insane!). However, there is one thing about the Tobey Maguire films that kept me from truly loving them: The treatment of MJ as a character. I just feel like her story never gets told. It's like she's just a tool to tell everyone else's story. I remember a couple of scenes which attempt to illustrate that she comes from a broken home--which could indeed explain her psychological propensity for latching onto toxic men, or ping-ponging from guy to guy--but they never really TELL that story, if I remember correctly. Kirsten Dunst is a fantastic actress (that I totally didn't have a crush on when I was a kid watching Jumanji and Small Soldiers!), and she perfectly plays the role that was written for her, but, I don't know. It's about Spider-Man, of course, but I've always wished MJ had better characterization. It's not enough to make me dislike the movies, but I can't think about these films nowadays without those thoughts coming up.

Yess this is gonna be good, Toby Maguire and the legendary Willem Dafoe. Can't wait for the next film and any others to come!

I like that you caught the fact that even though he's a dick most of the time, JJJ didn't give up his source for the published pictures even when threatened. Most reactors miss it completely.

BTW, they don't have post-credit scenes in this one, but there is a little easter egg for old school fans at the very, very end...
