Rear Window. No brainer. Controversial opinion, Casablanca is overrated.

Ian A

Man, great picks. It was a hard choice.

John W Foster

Man, two of these movies are in my five favorite movies of all time.

For anyone in the reaction business, I would think that all 3 of these classics should get a watch at some point. I have voted in many scores of polls and this is the most difficult choice that I have had to make.

James M

You will want to see all of these. "Casablanca" is the best of the three, but all are great films.

mikethemotormouth

The Day the Earth Stood Still(1951) is the one I'm waiting for

Garrick Smalley

Voted for To Kill a Mockingbird hopefully it will come around again.

Miles E Coburn

Voted for my favorite of the three, "Casablanca". But really, all three are bangers and should be watched, poll results or not.

Miles E Coburn

They already did it. It's on the channel.

George Roybal

You can't go wrong with a Hitchcock classic in Rear Window.

mikethemotormouth

Whoops. Autocorrect. I meant to say The Sound of Music(1964)

Cliff Adams

You must watch all three. Probably oldest first, work up to the newest. Skipping any of these will lead to ultimate regret.

pinkdino99

Please add to this list - Breakfast at Tiffany's, Psycho, The Birds, Some Like It Hot

Foggy

all of the above!

Alice Devilman

As far as Hitchcock goes, you really should consider Saboteur from 1942. That film was soooo far ahead of its time. I dare say that if it was re-made today, shot-for-shot with the exact same dialogue, just with modern production quality, it would absolutely wreck house at the Oscars.

Wormtongue

Yes more Hitchcock 😍

Sean, aka Turd Ferguson

Personally, I'll probably skip these. Just not my preference for era of movies, but I genuinely hope everyone else enjoys.

JM63

I absolutely love Casablanca too, but I really think Rear Window is one of the immortal films. (I put it in an unofficial trilogy with Sherlock Jr and Vertigo, with After Hours as a coda.) But I agree that starting with Casablanca makes the most sense.

JM63

Love The Sound of Music!

Jason Weiner

All skip-able as none hold up nor are they interesting

JM63

Wow, what a bombshell, agonizing choice!! I think chronological order makes the most sense, so I went with Casablanca. But any of these will be excellent! (Please consider The Apartment [1960] for a future poll.) BTW, when watching pre-1980 films, I think it's best to rent on Amazon instead of YT. Youtube often says that old films are high-def, but they usually only stream at 480p, not 720p [SD] or 1080p [HD]. It's low-key consumer fraud! Amazon is really good about streaming classics in true HD. Black and white films can look stunningly good when you watch a great version.

JM63

Reasonable. I think there's room for balance for all eras (old, nostalgic, and new).

James M

He made so many older films that get overlooked today, all of which are excellent movies. "Saboteur", "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1934), "The 39 Steps", "Foreign Correspondent", "The Lady Vanishes", "Lifeboat" are the ones I've seen. I could not pick just one but certainly Saboteur would be a great example of his older work.

James M

That's a bit of an esoteric set of movies. I give Casablanca the edge because of what it simultaneously says about the individuals, the political and cultural moment, and the nature of humanity. It feels both sweeping and intimate in a way that's not easily accomplished. It feels effortless and seamless. Much of that is also true of To Kill a Mockingbird, but that one feels more idiosyncratic while Casablanca feels universal. It's only by the slimmest of margins that any of these might be considered better than another. They are all three genuinely great films that should not be missed.

James M

I never quite got why "The Apartment" is so well liked. For me "Some Like it Hot" is more entertaining. I think part of the problem I have is I don't like MacLaine's performance. Debbie Reynolds or Audrey Hepburn in the role would have worked better for me.

JM63

I love Some Like It Hot as well! I would say that The Apartment's strongest point is its screenplay, which I think is one of the best ever (along with Casablanca's). I find the structure of the screenplay to be simply awesome ("awesome" like a waterfall, not "duuude"). But it's all subjective, not everyone has to agree. Similarly, I happen to love MacLaine in the film. Debbie or Audrey would've been great, but fortunately we have Singin' in the Rain and Roman Holiday to enjoy their performances as well!

JM63

I think there's a throughline among the films I mentioned, but I don't want to give spoilers, of course. Hey, I'm with you on Casablanca! But, more importantly, they're all great. (Personally, I'm not really big on rankings. The furthest I'd go is tiers. I'd put Casablanca and Rear Window in the highest tier, Mockingbird slightly below.)

ShadowDrgn

Old old classic not really my jam, 2 exceptions. The day the earth stood still and Its a wonderful life

OddThomas

Rear Window obvs

Barry

I'm much more open to classics but those two I among the top.

Clay F

I voted Casablanca but would be happy with any of the 3.
