Happy Saturday Everyone!I'm sad we're done with Mad Max Saturdays, but this movie was an epic one to finish on! I loved learning about Furiosa's life, and more about the wasteland, even though most of was gnarly haha. It was a wild ride from start to finish, and as soon as we were done I wanted to start all of them again.Hope you'll join us for a last ride in the wasteland with Furiosa!YouTube: https://youtu.be/-GAOQOCrEFE

I'd be Reeeeaaaalllyy curious to hear from your Patreon members what the best revenge movies are. IMHO, a more recent film (and it's sequel!) is Sisu from 2022. At first glance ("A Finnish action film?) it may seem... Inaccessible? But, I assure you, it is not. If you doubt me, watch the trailer. Here's the film description: Sisu (2022) is a Finnish action film directed by Jalmari Helander about a lone gold prospector in WWII Finland who battles a Nazi death squad that tries to steal his gold, embodying the Finnish concept of "sisu" (grit and determination) as he goes on a bloody rampage to get it back. The film is known for its over-the-top, gory violence, sparse dialogue, and "one-man army" action, drawing comparisons to First Blood. The sequel is nearly just as good, and worth your time. Again, and as always, your members should vote, but I'd be excited to hear everyone's favorite revenge movies, I might find ones I've never seen before! Here's the red band trailer for Sisu 2022 https://youtu.be/d2k4QAItiSA?si=gkP-cKPUL4k9CXQi

While I enjoyed Furiosa, Miller uses more CG in this one, it's way too long and the problem with prequels is you know the main character won't die. Anya Taylor-Joy is great though, you should watch Last Night in Soho for more of her

Waterworld with Kevin Costner is basically Mad Max on water & is a lot of fun

This movie definitely deserved to be more successful than it was. I think it borders on great. I'm trying to think of all the little things that contributed to its box office failure. I think it didn't help that theater-going was still in the aftermath of the pandemic (if I'm not mistaken). The lack of a typical, accessible plot structure also made it a more "I'm admiring this movie" rather than it being a movie with a lot of fist-pumping satisfying moments. (Like, there's no exciting final battle, really.) Also, Fury Road actually had a lot of funny interactions between the "good guys." Here, Furiosa is basically a silent, loner type. And that's fine. But no one else really picks up the slack in that department, except the bad guy, Dementus. While the Max in "Fury Road" was similarly stoic - it was fun to see him play off the other characters - and "Fury Road" had Furiosa herself (who was much more talkative then), all of the wives, and the Nicholas Holt character. Again, the lack of dialogue doesn't make Furiosa a bad movie, but it might make it less engaging for some, and it might make Furiosa a less relatable character. This is also a case where the reputation of the previous movie - specifically its gritty aesthetic, and just how much of it was actual practical stunts - hurt the reception of this movie. Compared to most summer blockbusters, Furiosa wasn't any more reliant on CGI and greenscreen than them. However, it now was held up to the insane standard of Fury Road. ... And then of course, it might simply be the case that Anya Taylor Joy isn't enough of a big box office draw.

Great reaction as always. It's been awhile since I've seen all of the Mad Max movies and the first time watching Furiosa and I enjoyed watching them with you. If you're still needing your post apocalypse itch scratched, in a non-zombie way, I have a few recommendations: The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price The Omega Man (1971) with Charlton Heston I Am Legend (2007) with Will Smith These three are all adaptations of the 1954 book "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson. Steel Dawn (1987) with Patrick Swayze In a few "so bad it's good" lists, if you choose to react to this one, congratulations, you're the first. It probably won't win any polls but it's one of my guilty pleasures. Waterworld (1995) with Kevin Costner The Postman (1997) with Kevin Costner What can I say? I love post apocalypse and Costner movies; here I can get both. In spite of many differing opinions, I love these movies and I think more people are coming around. The Book of Eli (2010) with Denzel Washington This is a damn good movie and should win any poll you put it on. Reign of Fire (2002) with Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey Here there be dragons. Idiocracy (2006) with Luke Wilson and Terry Crews as President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho I don't think this is a post apocalypse movie but some kind of apocalypse has happened or is happening. I knew from the first time I seen it that it was less fiction and more prophetic. It's a must see. There are many more but I'll end my list here for now.
