I have watched a few Chinese anime, and there are a lot of similarities, in this case, between many of these non-Chinese-historically set fantasy stories. All of them drop lore, tend not to make it clear, then pile on more; I always get frustrated wanting to know more. I don't know if it's because we're not as familiar with Chinese tropes as most of us are with Japanese ones. There's always an organization or school, usually affiliated with the government, who are mostly the good guys, and they usually try to recruit the MC; but the MC is also keeping secrets. There is usually some kind of celestial realm, and they are great at depicting this fantastical world. You are correct, it's always fascinating but overwhelming. There are a lot of similarities with the more traditional xianxia Chinese fantasy genre, originally found in novels. There is spiritual and power advancement according to a set sequence, which is like approaching the divine. An anime that reminds me of this one is Dragon Raja (which no one saw but I enjoyed).

Transmigration is just a word for reincarnation/isekai, so it’s like he knows the stereotype. Reincarnation is “illegal” in China so they can’t use the word in their stories.
