Norn the beginning of Oguri's secret skill [Turning ops into wifes]

Cinderella Grey is hard to do breakdowns of characters as most of them are regional heroes. Regional horses are much less popular so less likely to end up translated to English. (Also I’m avoiding potential spoilers for season 2) So instead I’m just going to do breakdowns of whatever Uma I feel like. Feel free to request one if you want. So with that in mind I find it fitting that since we’re covering dirt races it only makes sense to cover one of the best dirt racers in Japanese history. Smart Falcon- Runner of The Dirt Smart Falcon was born April 4 2005. His father Gold Allure ran 16 times and won 8 with one being a G1 and another being Graded M1 (meaning Japan recognizes it as a G1 but it’s not recognized internationally) both on dirt. His maiden year in 2007 he ran 3 times all on dirt tracks. Winning his first race. Losing the second then winning the third. Baffling enough at the start of his three year old season his trainers decided not to put him in a dirt race like he was in for his qualifiers. Instead they put him into the Junior Cup. Despite it being turf and him being only the fifth favorite Smart Falcon would go on to actually win this race. This caused his trainers to put him in more turf races where he preformed horrificly. They put him in 3 turf races all of which her lost. The final one being the Satsuki Sho where he came in dead last. This performance lead to his stable actually pulled him from the JRA and planned on retiring him. A different trainer (Ken Kozaki) would end up believing in Smart Falcons potential and signed him up to the NAR (National Association of Racing). This would limit him to domestic races only. He was finally back to being trained for dirt with a new Jockey as well in Yasunari Iwata. He would ended up winning his first return race, the Japan Dirt Derby. He’d win another race before moving onto the Hakusan Daishoten a G3 race at the time, which would be his and his trainer’s first graded win. Throughout the rest of his third and fourth and start of his fifth years he’d win the vast majority of his races and at least podiumed on the few he didn’t. This was until the Teio Sho where he uncharacteristically placed 6th making this only his second non podium finish in his dirt career. However after this race his Jockey got into a riding accident unrelated to Smart Falcon and would have to be replaced. His replacement would be none other than Yutaka Take. A legendary Jockey who has ridden a ridiculous amount of the cast of Umamusume including Special Week, Silence Suzuka, and Kitasan Black. With Yutaka Take now Jockeying him Smart Falcon would once again join the JRA and ended up winning the JBC classic by 7 lengths and being his first G1 victory. He would win his next race by 6 lengths and the one after that he would end up setting a new course record by 1.7 seconds. At the start of his six year old season he’d enter the Diolite Kinen a G2 race. He would win this race by 8 lengths making this his 14 graded win and giving him the record for the most graded wins in the JRA. He would go on to redeem his previous performance at the Teio Sho by winning by 9 lengths. He won the Nippon TV Hai by 4, the JBC Classic by 1 and the Tokyo Daishoten by a nose. His first race in his seven year old season was the Kawasaki Kinen he’d win by 4 lengths and set a new course record by 2 seconds. After that he was invited to race in the Dubai World Cup, his first international race. There he would race alongside Eishin Flash. However Falcon would end up placing 10th in this race. He would skip the Teio Sho as he wasn’t recovered enough in time. By August they started training him again however he had developed tenosynovitis (inflammation of the fluid in the tendon) in his hock and was retired shortly after. He finished his career with 19 graded flat races the highest number of graded wins in Japan until 2021 when a horse named Katsugeki Kitokito beat it. Random Facts The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is happening on the same day as Cinderella Grey’s first episode (October 5th). Japan has 6 horses in it this year 3 year old Croix du Nord son of Kitasan Black. 3 year old Alohi Alii son of Duramente and grandson of Orfevre. 4 year old and winner of the 2024 Arima Kinen Regaleira. 4 year old Redentor winner of the Tenno Sho and Grandson of Stay Gold (Gold Ships father) and Air Groove. 4 year old Shin Emperor brother to the 2020 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sottsass. And lastly the grandson of Jungle Pocket Byzantine Dream the one I’m personally rooting for. Also Tokai Teio’s story actually happened before Special Week’s and Suzuka’s. They just flipped it in the anime.

I was planning on doing a CinGray rewatch on my own but these reactions are actually the perfect way to do it lol Here's another fun fact: The real Symboli Rudolf retired just five months before the debut of Oguri Cap, so if the anime timeline follows that, Rudolf only just recently finished her Twinkle Series career in these early appearances

Norn is so fun. I'm glad you like her already. Tamano mentioning them all being ashen haired is because there used to be a weird stereotype in japan that white haired horses couldn't succeed in the same level. This group obviously helped prove that wrong

Man... i realy just binged your Reaction to the Entire Uma-verse lol a little tidbit about Belno Light: Belno is funnily enough based on a Mix of both Horse and Human the Horse RL Name was Twinn Bee (name couldnt be taken do to Copyright, the Horse shares its name with Game Characters etc) the Human Characterization comes From Masaru Minowa, who was Oguri´s Groomer and part Time Ferrier (Horse Shoe Smith) hence why Belno´s Uma backstory has her family beeing Shopowners (and Blacksmiths) of Umamusume Accessories

The Tokai Derby, an SP1 race, is not even *remotely* close to any graded race category. Tamamo Cross visiting this race is like an NBA star visiting some high school event. It might be difficult to understand for newcomers to the sport that Oguri Cap is a bit of a miracle horse, in that it really came out of nowhere. This pretty much never happens, you can count on one hand the amount of horses in Japan that achieved such a track record coming from such a background. It was a true underdog story, comparable to something like Sea Biscuit in the US.

47:53, The way I see the timeline, it matches the real world series of events, but it is highly compressed. Since they have smartphones but it's supposed to be 1987. That would mean CinGray would be in at least the late 2000s. Then season 2, season 1, RTTT, BNE, and finally season 3 following. As we saw in Season 2, the BNW races were happening at the same time.
