As we finished the White Lightning arc we entered the Eternal Three Legends arc which is the longest (and the best) arc in the series 15:58 while that might be a typo but ever since 1997 the race is actually 2000 meters

The subtitles aren't entirely incorrect as the Tokyo Daishoten is 2000m now. However it was 3000m at the time of this race, after this race the distance is reduced to 2800m until 1998 when the race is change to 2000m.

Given that they subtitled "Happy Holidays" even though you can clearly hear the girls say "Merry Christmas" should tell you all you need to know about who did the translation. Even at the end, Belno says 'Christmas Party' but the subs say only 'party'. I'm willing to bet the banner at the beginning says Christmas party too. This is the state of our current translators. Scrubbing the word 'Christmas' from the subs to suit their personal beliefs. So I don't think it was a typo. I think the translator was arrogant enough to think the anime got it wrong and "corrected it".

"current translators " is a bit of a hyperbole since Netflix sub for this actually does says Christmas. One bad apples spoils the bunch

On the other hand you can see it Christmas. I prefer shorter subtitle as long as it's not important info or wrong translation. The typesetting nowadays on the other hand....

15:58 that's probably a moment of the "localizers" thinking they know better, because it's only 2000m today, but back then it was 3000m, which, as you say, it obviously says. I think those people who think they know better figured it was a typo by one of the most attentive teams in anime.
