Rewatching Bake and Kizu back to back with your reaction made me realize that Araragi, while being threatened by Senjougahara, surely understand her very well because she did what Arararagi did to Hanekawa, trying to push other so they don't end up in their problem. But Araragi give a helping hand and didn't abandon her just like Hanekawa did to him... which add another sad layer for Hanekawa, because it's her influence that pushed him to help Senjougahara and end up being the spark for their love story. Also, it would be good to add that "nekketsu" is also the term used to describe shonen manga like Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Fire Force ect ect, with a protagonist that keep on progressing in power during the story, which is exactly what happen with Araragi. First fight is pretty basic, already with episode the power level is higher and at the end, it's another level again. So yeah, this movie is basically Araragi living the life of a shonen protagonist.

About the tree thing at the end: The gi in Araragi is written with the kanji for tree (木). Moreover, there's some cut dialogue from the novel that happens right after the conversation about friends with Hanekawa: <<< "You see, I want to become a plant," I said. "A plant?" "That way I wouldn't have to talk. Or walk, either." "Hmm." Hanekawa did give me a cursory nod. "But you still want to be a living thing." "Huh?" "In that case, you normally say that you want to become something inorganic. Like stone or iron." I felt as if something unexpected had been pointed out to me. I wasn't lying. I had honestly felt for a long time that I wanted to become a plant, but I hadn't anticipated a counterargument from that angle. I see. Inorganic, huh? She was right, plants are alive. >>>

A big part of Hanekawa is her escapism. Her home life kinda sucks, so she hopes to meet a supernatural entity like a vampire. And once she knows that oddities are indeed real, she lets all her piled up stress escape into a cat oddity a few weeks later.

Though I'm very much in the rewatch, rewatch, and rewatch again camp, I think you're doing a good job at picking up details and themes. That said, here are a couple of smaller observations: When Araragi and Hanekawa have their first conversation of this movie, I wonder whether Hanekawa noticed Araragi didn't have a shadow from the streetlight. (Also, at the beginning of the wheat field conversation, we see that Hanekawa has a reflection in the water but Araragi doesn't.) Araragi didn't trick Dramaturgy with weak throws. He switched from baseballs to shot put balls, which weigh 12 pounds at the high school level in the US (not sure about Japan). Looking forward to your reaction to the third movie!

From the persepctive of a young, impressionable, and lonely person that Hanekawa was, its understandable how Araragi's actions/attention/words to her in Kizumonogatari so far must have really impacted her and even gave her the idea that " oh he must really love me!". They met each other at a low and lonely point of each other's lives but unfortunately only one party truly fell into romantic love.

Funny thing is that calling acerola orion heart under blade shinobu is that the kanji for shinobu is the heart kanji under the blade kanji :) oshino says this in the first or second episode when he tells araragi her new name
