I don’t normally share images of my children but this one was super special for me. This week, it was World Book Day in UK Schools where all children dress up as their favourite character from their favourite book. Saying that, sometimes they choose whatever the parent can make for them.

Over the duration of the last year, I’ve been reading (190 something chapters so far) Yu-Gi-Oh! The Manga to my youngest who’s 5, about to turn 6 every other night at bedtime.

When asking her what she wanted to go as this year, she wanted to go as her favourite Duelist, Mai Valentine from Yu-Gi-Oh! I was absolutely flabbergasted by her response but equally, never been so proud. Not only that, she made her very own duel disk with help from Nan of course to go with her costume! Look at that paper mache greatness!

Just in case she couldn’t make a duel disk I purchased a Duel Disk watch from the States and shipped it here, apparently it was an exclusive a few years back from one of those big comic conventions. Pricey but worth it because now I’ve got it, mwahaha!

To go with the look, I had some anime cards specially made from a creator on Etsy. Mai Valentines trusted Harpie’s and co.

The image above is the final look and if you know who the character is, then I must say… she did a bang-up job my little Blue-Eyes.

. . .

Anyways, pretty random for the channel but this really was a moment of go create, be great and it came from my 5-year-old. It is also a very proud moment for me as a dweeb/geeky dad.

I also took a photo where I didn’t look so shit, you know… Just got back from an early morning dog walk, hat hair and in my painting pants. I also love the fact as a nearly 40-year-old man, how much fun I have wearing a trading card game/kids cartoon watch! It’s a piece of shitty plastic from China but It makes me feel like I’ve got a Rolex attached to my arm.

Being a big kid is fucking great and to all those within the community that are the same. You Rock! You often won’t hear this or never in fact but I got you.

P.S. One day I might get my hands on one of those Kaiba Proplica Duel Disk Replicas I’ve seen from Japan, a Man boy can dream!

P.P.S. If I did, that shit would be in every video!

This is so precious, I hope she had a great day showing off her awesome costume!

What an amazingly adorable story! Its so cool she's resonated with Yu-Gi-Oh! The outfit is very nice and the duel disk is super top notch! That duel disk watch also looking pretty dope my guy, show off that watch with pride

Ah brilliant. I'm starting to get the kids into Pokémon after the 30th anniversary has brought the hype back to me. Bit too young for some of the books but they so far are loving it.

Something better than being a geek/nerd is having people right beside you that support your nerdiness. If they showed manga in school to kids, I bet you we would have tons of kids begging to read and having heroes that will make them company in the brightest and darkest days. If I ever have a child, I will steal your idea and read manga to them every night. Maybe One Piece just because it would be so damn long that I would read them until they are teenagers

That's awesome! My kids are around the same age as yours (4 and 6) and they're super nerdy already. My oldest is obsessed with Jurassic Park and wants to be Dr. Sadler for Halloween and my youngest keeps flipping between Erza from Fairy Tale and Rumi from KPDH.

Brilliant work from the brilliant child of a brilliant man! What smiles!! Seriously, you are both a light in a dark world, thank you for sharing this, Kai!

Always very nice to see when someone proves that the saying "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional" does indeed exist for a reason! Something some people (including myself, at times!) may need a little reminder of, at some points in one's life...

SO COOL, never got to do this type of stuff with my dad, seeing this has me looking forward to sharing the amazing work of Yugi with my own!

Thats one of the cutest and coolest things ive ever seen. 😮

This is fantastic. Yu Gi Oh is probably one of the most interesting CCG games out there with such a diverse lore. Playing Yu Gi Oh though, that's another thing entirely.

I tried the online game a year ago, I stopped 😂. When I used to play it, you'd play maybe one monster per turn. Now turns last 5 minutes and about 15+ monsters are out, destroying themselves and the next thing, you've lost. On the first turn!

Thats adorable! Always treasure your kids, couse these innocent moments u'll never get back.
