The Raid [2011] - Coming soon!

Kai

P.S. I was going to spell coming a different way but thought that might be a little too much for a post. Probably a wise choice to keep it PG. 😉

Can't wait for that!! The Raid is such an incredible movie. I still watch it about once a year since I discovered it, and I still can't get over the fight choreography and the long takes.

Glad you asked The raid shares some similarities in its style with Oldboy, but that might be a coincidence. However Oldboy has influenced many notable properties. Daredevil (tv show) for example lifted inspiration from Oldboy's choreography according to Chris Brewster a stunt performer on the show "We wanted to pay tribute to it [Oldboy]" and "we were like, obviously Oldboy is just about as master class as you can get.." it's influence has even found its way into marvel movies with director James Gunn saying "That was a huge inspiration to me [Oldboy]. You can see our own version of a hallway fight [Sequence in Oldboy] in Guardians 3." Oldboy even found its way into video games, with SIFU referencing its hallway scene with recreating it in-game. Its also a favorite of many directors like Taratino who voted for it during its debut at a film festival and then continued to be spotted at three separate screenings. Tilda Swinton who was among the jury even said jokingly to Park Chan Wok (the director) to "watch out" because Taratino "might steal a lot from Oldboy." Now for me, Oldboy has the best ending in film history in my opinion. Maybe not as iconic as Psycho of course (just because its hitchcock) The best revenge film ever made in my opinion (ill die on that hill), it also pays homage to a classic greek epic (i wont tell you what cuz it would spoil it) Its also credited as the movie that really made a name for South Korean cinema in the West, and laid the groundwork for other directors to be taken more seriously by the west. Its also incredibly dark and violent with incredible performances by its actors and actresses. Spike Lee also remaked it, but don’t watch that one its god awful, bollywood even did a remake if I remember correctly.
