A new character approaches and he’s got a GUN for an arm! Sounds familiar…

Like I always say with this game and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. When Square Enix get serious, they hit you right in the feels! The thing I’m most impressed about is it’s a new character and it’s Barret’s story, not Clouds the MC.

Also, I finally get the anthropomorphic kitty cat! Life is complete. 😻

Yess, was waiting for this!

Ducard

Wohoo, we are slowly closing in on the best parts of the game.

Ruukasu97

btw cait sith was the cat you were confused about when the plate fell in remake he was standing next to it and was punching the ground you said it 1 min later xD

Ruukasu97

14:34 there is a dog

Mokiki

The thing about Jessie's picture on the wall. This was one of the conversations they cut out off the videos you watched. She was an actress before Avalanche and worked at the Gold Saucer.

Ruukasu97

no that was jessie, she was working as an actress in the golden saucer

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

Cait Sith is based off of Celtic folklore thus the Scottish accent. Jessie worked at the Gold saucer, she wanted to be an actress but got into Avalanche because her old man got in an accident at a Mako reactor. There's a scene at her house in Remake where you need to steal her Dad's ID, for sneaking into a Shinra warehouse. Her Mom still thought she was working as a stagehand. Chocobo racing (and breeding) were in the OG game, this was how you got the different colour Chocobos that could travel over different terrain.

Chris.N7

They talk about how Jessie used to perform at the Golden Saucer in Remake. I believe you overhear it when you go to her house.

Ducard

Another thing about yor remark in your closing statement. Yes I would say that is FF DNA (and prolly even JRPG DNA, not sure about that). Every FF game has these hours of gameplay where nothing really happens, just some silly quests, conversations or situations that are not really needed and feel a bit goofy. But in core every FF game is a game about tragedy, loss and or an apocalyptic event that is coming for these characters. And the longer the FF game goes, the darker it gets. So these silly moments actually help me to fall in love with these characters and by the time when the shit hits the fence I am completely invested. I agree though that Square Enix overdid it in this game in a couple of occasions where they unnessecarily extended the game lenght.

Saj

There are two dates in this game based on your affinity level. This video showed Tifa but it could be any party member. The second date is real spicy and all versions have some great lore and moments so hope the video you use shows them all. In Remake there is an option to read a letter at Jesse's house which talks about how she is an actress at the Gold Saucer and so the poster on the wall is actually her. She quit acting and joined Avalanche when her dad got sick.

ToastyPenguin

Others have said it but yeah Cait Sith is a cat in Scottish folklore (also in Irish but under a slightly different name), hence why he has the Scottish accent. In previous renditions it was a fake Scottish accent by an English chap, but this time round they got an actual Scot to play him.

Mokiki

Basically the full story was that. She always wanted to be an actress and finally scored a gig at the Gold Saucer. But then her dad had an accident at work. (You see him in bed when clouds breaks into her house per Jessies request) Mako poisoning which leaves him unconscious and bed ridden. That event basically made her join avalanche to do something about Shinra. (which her dad worked for)

nickwatic

Everyone that plays the game puts the music at 8/10 while keeping the rest of the sounds and voices at max volume. Its a problem with rebirth and i just hope they properly mix part 3

nickwatic

Gus has the best music in the game!

S M

I don't believe the Corel prison part was in the original. You go to the Gold Saucer and you find out about the guy with the gun for an arm. So, yes the Dyne story is part of the main story. Barrett found Marlene in the wreckage of the town, she was too young to be able to remember her parents. The chocobo racing is in the original. You can catch wild chocobos and breed them and race. The motor cycle game you saw was in Remake - when you first meet Roche. I guess they could have made it look more like the original FF7 version. You could miss a lot of side content in the original. You had to make the decision to go discover the secrets of the game. Two characters are completely missable. I think some of the optional stuff from the original is being forced into the story, making it feel out of place? Some of it works, like Yuffie joining the party, and other parts don't.

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

Corel prison was in the OG, it wasn't as padded out, but I distinctly remember it because I got lost in the desert looking for Dyne.

LloydzXIII

I agree the whole “find the greens for the chocobo” quest was annoying even in the game. Second worst moment for me after one other sequence that didn’t happen yet lol. Fun fact: the date at the Gold Saucer is influenced by your relationships in game. Aerith or Tifa are the most common scenes, but you can also get Yuffie. Can’t wait for the next part!

LloydzXIII

Oh she is, the “date” is not romantic but more on the playful / funny side 😂

Saj

Without spoiling I think we've crested the silliness parts to where it will be more serious then silly (there will still be moments especially featuring Cait Sith) and then it's all serious. In the original story there wasn't an imminent timer to save Barret. You are in shock at the shooting and then falsely imprisoned for it. The immediate goal was to find your way out and encountering the Barret/Dyne arc was part of that. The Chocobo racing is a beloved part of the original game and it plays out similar (without the fetch quests).

S M

Yeah, I guess it's been nearly 30 years since I played it. I remember them not hinting about Dyne prior to the shooting, allowing there to be a chance that it was Barret. I don't remember the prison. I definitely don't remember Gus. I remember finding Dyne and I think the scene was a little darker than the Rebirth one? Did he commit suicide?

Jay Carter

In the original, You also had to win a chocobo race to get Barret back. The prison was there too. And yes, some parts are sometimes too much. I personaly love it but i can see your point. DW though from this point its back to bussiness.

Zero Blazer Gaming

Your right o wonder. the chocobo race section is part of the OG. The only thing is that it happens after the Dyne fight, and is how you get the buggy and your freedom from Coral Prison. they changed the order of events up for the Remake trilogy. there are even events from the OG that have been pushed to: at least we hope have been pushed to; part 3. Plus there are thing that were optional in the OG that have been made mandatory, including Yuffee.

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

After the battle between Barret and Dyne, Dyne chucks himself off a cliff.

Andyroo

Cait Sith is a Scottish legend of a black cat with a white belly, thus the Scottish Voice on the cat.

ItsMeSnoops

There's a good amount of padding in this game but I feel as though the padding in the main story is there to still give players a good amount of gameplay IF wanting to skip all the side gameplay and quests. Remake for me at 100% was under 100 hours. Rebirth for me going for 100%, first playthrough took me 130+ hours. But this should give you an idea of how the areas and sections of Rebirth look like so far into these videos (Minus the flashback sequence at the very beginning with Sephiroth and intro with Zack): Town (Kalm) -> Open World (Grasslands/Marsh) -> Dungeon (Mythril Mines) -> Open World (Junon Region) -> Towns (Junon/Under Junon) -> Ship (Town) -> Town (Costa Del Sol) -> Open World (Northern Corel Region) -> Dungeon (Corel Mines) -> Town (North Corel) -> Town (Gold Saucer) -> Town (Corel Prison)

Levifold

I didn't mind the padding tbh. I'm story driven, sure, but games I guess as a medium are about exploration and side stories, not just the main story. Yes, some of the quests in FF7 Rebirth were fetch quests, but some that seemed like that at first actually expand the story and lore in a way that is surprising. The side quests did also contribute to relationship mechanics in the game, but some were just enjoyable to do for the sake of doing them. FF7 has this unique feel of being both a very serious story, but also goofy and fun in other areas. I personally think it adds to the charm. Also you may have missed it in the cutscenes, but Barret said to Dyne he rescued Marlene as a baby straight after he thought Dyne had died. He heard her crying in the burning village. He says she nearly died that day. He adopted her and raised her as his own, but hasn't told her yet

KotaVee

With you closing comments, there have certainly been times in other games that I've skipped side quests or filler sections on the first playthrough because the filler felt too much and I just wanted to get on with the story. But I personally don't mind the filler or padding sections of Final Fantasy 7 specifically. I knew going in that it is meant to a massive journey and adventure that you are going on and I don't think FF7 would be the same without them. But I do agree with just about any game that putting the player on a time crunch (whether there is an actual timer or not) and then having fetch quest or a ton of side quests either ruins the tone of the main reason there is a time crunch or makes you feel like you have to rush or ignore the side stuff. With how episodic the game is I usually take my time and play for a bit through a section or two rather than trying to blow through the game all at once. Sure, some of it here and there could probably be cut out. But as you've said multiple times, the silly or filler moments make the serious ones hit much harder. Without spoiling anything, I do think after this section or the next one it does keep more with the serious tones and having the beach arc and the Golden Saucer makes it much heavier.

G Lord Robinson

Corel Prison was definitely one of the most padded areas (which is a shame cause it was really cool and kinda depressing in the OG) but getting stuck there and having to win a race to get out was part of the original. Rebirth definitely has a bloat problem with side quests and it can leak into the game here and there, I’m really hoping part 3 learns the lesson just letting moments play out and be iconic rather than having to write it all in your face this is how you have to feel oh and here is mandatory 3 hours of stuff to do to make the game at least 200 hours or something. Rebirth is still 10/10 for me tho I love it

Gus’s VA is credited as Jonah Scott but a lot people mistake his performance to be done by Matt Mercer who has done a ton of voice acting in games and anime. I think the weird thing about the Corel Prison section in the game is that you still go there do the chocobo race but its just incredibly fast. So much so that when I played this part in the original I completely forgot I played through it and lost all the impact of Barret’s backstory. Which is crazy to me because it’s supposed to be very emotional but i don’t know what happened to my brain. It was just over so fast all I remember was running across the bridge. I think it also just feels very different when you’re playing through this section. It’s like another town so I loved exploring the urban punk community of these characters. But I defeintly agree it’s silly they took out the gang with just a few good hits to the head when we’ve seen these characters tank so much damage throughout Remake. Like you said threatening or using some gas to knock them out would made sense. Maybe they really just wanted to make the “welcome to Earth” reference. I’m surprised more people haven’t mention, but when Rude said “Wish you were here partner” was a way to pay their respects to Reno’s Japanese VA who passed away.

S M

Haha, yeah, i made the mistake of saying in my comment that I didn't think the prison part was in the original. I clearly just blanked it out. I remember the race, I remember Dyne.

Merlin

Great stuff can't wait for the next part!

nickwatic

Its not treated with romantic tones like aerith and tifa. And you can also get no one in this chapter iirc if everyones at the same low level

nickwatic

Not matt mercer. Matt is a very different man later in the game

Horatio Williams

That desire to have an entirely serious section is partially down to the source as they seem to include a lot of selective side content. Ironically, maybe the ol' faithful Gamer's Little Playground may have omitted some of that since they usually only grab cutscenes. That said however, as it gets into these coming chapters the seriousness of the story ramps up. The plot for the mid game is following the robed guys. As such the character development does most of the lifting while that external plot simmers.

Agne's Arthouse

Hehe, going to repeat myself that cut scenes edit you are watching is very Tifa-centered. I played my game with Aerith more explored, so watching what are other players experience is very fun (and also that's the charm of it, same game but everyone plays it different and gets a bit different outcomes). Maybe they chose Tifa for this section because she is a closer friend to Barret. Strange that they showed all those side quests with chocobo ranch guys in part 1 and now cut so much of the back story (like confrontation with Sam). Dyne episode felt even a bit rushed in rebirth compared to OG.

Markus Schwalbe

Audio mix is off in the footage you watch. Feels really boomy too. Noticed that in previous videos, too. The game doesn't have that issue.

Rita ★

There's an easy way to solve the ticking timebomb-problem in writing and I don't understand why writers don't do it more... keep the fetch-quests or whatever, but show. the. characters. being. stressed. Keep reminding the player of the timebomb through the writing. Then the fetch-quest will actually feel like something. Like 'oh man we gotta fix this in 24h?! Piko is too tired?? Damn we don't have time for this, lets get those greens fast!' 'Practice-run for the chocobos!? Sheit we only have one shot at winning, time is running out! Maybe I shiuld practice...' Instead we get Cloud suddenly super chill, not mentioning the stakes or even showing that he's thinking of the stakes. Huge writing problem in many game series tbh, for being such an easy fix... I'm guessing they animate and render before they actually stitch together the details of the story beats.

Ruben Jacobs

The chocobo part is one of the few breaks in the story that was actually in the original. Not the whole thing, but most of it. This game really feels like it was made for people who've already played the original, in which case all of the padding isn't as bad, because you don't need the game to get on with the story, and are instead happy to spend more time with these characters you know and love.

Ben Scott-Pye

The score has over 400 tracks. It's an insane undertaking.

Thomas C

The guy who made this video he's reacting to, he turned down the settings on the voice audio which is why it is so quiet.

Thomas C

I feel like all he talks about is lighting and camera angles with every scene, it's getting kinda annoying how much he talks about it

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

Mr Tom, "Lighting and camera work" is kind of my speciality, it's the technical stuff that interests me. Without that, this game wouldn't look as good as it does and most likely wouldn't leave that ever lasting impression. ECU's for example which this game has plenty of is how you evoke an emotion and make connections. The writing will certainly do something of course and I'm not taking away from that but the whole point of this channel is that I can talk about what makes shots and scenes as good as they do and maybe why it's your favourite game. Are you just after a reaction, a sit there in silence type of thing? Also, if you think it's annoying or have a problem with how I conduct my videos, maybe this isn't the channel or community for you fella. Another thing, if you have a problem or want to give feedback, message me or I believe there's feedback forms on Patreon. Not sure on the last one but regardless. I won't read a comment here in our dojo saying I'm annoying and what not and not respond. That's like taking a dump on my doorstep, I won't have it guvnor. Please enjoy the content but understand what it is first and think twice before criticising the content creator. YouTube comments, yeah I get it, say what you want. I won't read them or I'll immediately ban the person. Content creators do that Our Patreon, no way sausage. Not here.

Thomas C

I'm sorry for saying that. I was a little drunk when I decided to watch this. I didn't mean what I said, my temper and patience get messed up when I'm like that. I do like your reactions very much.
