No Final Fantasy at the Sony State of Play this week but don’t worry, I’ve got you. Part 7!

HOLY SHIT! Am I going to finally get that moment I’ve been wanting since the first bloody game… even though it’s one big game but you know what I mean. OMG!

In Part 6 I hated a certain side mission, I can now see why the original uploader left it in or included it in their game movie. It also shared with me a great opportunity to teach/talk about quality control and how a scene can really be a yay moment or a nay moment for a game.

We are now on last orders with this game and I’m sad… I’ve now got to wait with the rest of the community which I know, the ending is going to be a mic drop moment or a blooming cliff hanger. That’s how games roll of course.

Slightly worried unless it happens this Friday at the Summer Games Fest 2026 but could we be waiting till next year for FF7: 3rd game? I’m also concerned that if they do show anything at the event, will it spoil the ending for this game. Ahhhhh 🤔!

btw there have only be a very small amount of kisses in final fantasy google says 6-8 and the original ff7 didnt have that, also tifa is the only one cloud kisses, you can go on the date with different party members, cloud doesnt kiss aerith

Ruukasu97

be glad that they didn't show ff7 in the showcase, im certain there would have been spoilers in it

I'll say, if FF7 Remake Part 3 shows up on Friday. You might get spoiled on an important aspect of Rebirth. So either accept the consequences!! Or pre record as much Rebirth as possible. But maybe they'll be responsible about it.

In the date section, regarding your mention they just wanted to add a medieval story in the game - Final Fantasy 1 to 5 were medieval, 6 still had elements, 7 being the first without them. Then 9, 14 and 16 are medieval (16 also having English voice cast). 12 has a medieval story element, and final fantasy tactics is related to 12. So 8 of the main 16 final fantasy games are medieval, and a few others with medieval elements. 7 was quite different from it's predecessors in many ways. I've stopped at this point to comment so I don't know if you realised the actress in the play was Jessie, who died when the plate fell in Remake. I normally ignore your comments about breasts, but it reminded me how in the OG cinematics (there's not much of them), it seemed they went out of their way to make sure Tifa chest moved whenever she was knocked about.

You are correct the entire Gold Saucer date sequence changes depending on the character you have the most affinity with. For the next part, I’d highly recommend checking out the Skywheel scene with each character, there are compilations on YouTube. There’s a chance FF7 Part 3 may be shown at the Summer Game Fest, warning you for spoilers in case it happens!

Markus Schwalbe

Technically 8 has, but you can only see them lean in and it's implied.

S M

It's always fun to watch Tifa fans react to the Gondola scene. How they get their hopes up, the disappointment at the fake out to a hug, accept that is progress, then get the kiss in the end.

Markus Schwalbe

Definitely record the last part before Fridays event. If there is a trailer it will likely have massive spoilers for rebirth in it.

You can skip side missions. It does affect the relationship stuff. If for some reason, you wanted to go on a boys night out instead of a date with either Tifa/Aerith/Yuffie/Red/Barrett, skipping side missions and ruining relationships is how to do it. Then you can go on the Gondola with Cait, Cid and Vincent. I don't know if it has been mentioned, but the Zack sequences have been added, they weren't part of the main story in the OG. So yes, even old fans are waiting to see how things unfold and get answers in part 3. There is a prequel, Crisis Core, that has more about Zack and Sephiroth but it'd give spoilers for the third part.

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

The part that got me in the feels..Aeriths singing..THAT was not in the OG, then seeing Jessie, Wedge and Biggs...damn man. You gotta wait with us for part 3 for more answers dude..but.. Temple of the Ancients up next, more lore and seriousness. Can't wait!

Jess Landry

Vincent might have been the inspiration for Dante's look, but devil may cry started out as a version of resident evil 4 that got scrapped for not being horror-y enough.

Jess Landry

ill say it again, obsessed with queens blood and gwent. basically each card has a rank from 1-3 on the top left and the number in the top right is their power level. rank is represented on the board by those little chess piece looking things. you can only put a card in a box on the board if the box has enough of those rank tokens. different cards have different positions that they will add a rank marker to represented by the white boxes on the little grid on their card. some cards have special abilities that affect other cards in positions represented by the red box in the lil grid thing on their card. at the end of the game, whoever has the higher score in each row takes their point value of the row for their total score.

Jess Landry

oh and you can only put a card down if the rank pieces are "yours" in green. if the card you're putting down would add a rank token to a box that is red (your opponent's) then you can change those pieces to green and steal the box.

There will def be spoilers in any ff7 showcase. I'm so excited for the next part or 2 of this

nickwatic

I do truly believe we will see either a teaser or full on trailer for part 3 tomorrow at SGF

Victorius

Be careful tomorrow, Kai. 3rd game will show up

Fsaitza

You dont know how lucky you are. That kiss and Cloud and Tifa being an actual couple was something we never got to see until Rebirth. So if you think you waited that long for it, imagine the rest of us who never had that in the original game

G Lord Robinson

I am so very excited to see this part ohhhhhhh boy oh boy Red wasn’t playable in remake, and Vincent isn’t playable in rebirth sadly. But he will be in part 3 it has been said. In the original Final Fantasy 7, Vincent and Yuffie were completely optional party members it’s pretty crazy how well they’ve been woven into the remakes

Some of these side quest resolutions are insane 🥰. Definitely worth playing the game for yourself just to see the ones not included here I think. Also, the dating sim stuff is fun but I wish they had adapted the script a little bit more. The play was written as if Aerith was the date, but most people would probably get Tifa so I'm surprised they didn't adapt the script to talk of "childhood sweethearts" or something like that, and give her princess design knuckle dusters instead of a staff 😂.

Agne's Arthouse

yeah, it was strange seeing Tifa wielding magic staff. I played Aerith's date so this part was so much more natural, and singing those lyrics too... Well now I get to see the other game (Tifa's one) some people are playing. Actually, amazing concept - to make this game interactive to THIS level - experiencing two different lovestories in one game depending on your in-game choices. The only thing I don't like is fans fighting over which of the story line is more cannon.

Agne's Arthouse

You said you were interested, if you are close to Aerith - you will get date with Aerith and all those little looks and moments are different, at least you notice and feel them differently. Like when Aerith sings she glances at Cloud but in this Tifa version it just looks like she is looking at her friends (Cloud and Tifa together). In Aerith's version there's only Cloud standing there, catching a flower petal and putting it to his heart. In Aerith version game Cloud never hold hands with Tifa, but get much more intimate moments with Aerith. Cloud is concerned and believes that Aerith's heart is preoccupied with her first love (Zack, that she met when she was 15 or 16!), even in this Tifa's date he tells that, but through the game Aerith slowly tells him that she is more interested in him now. Only if you want to listen to her through selective gameplay. But I played Rebirth with full completion and both girls in my party as much as it is possible and I noticed that there is only one moment in the game you have to choose one of them (just like in Remake) - Hojo's beach attack. So well done developers in masking this with feeling like we work towards relationships but in the end one decision will make the biggest difference.

This video had all the optional side quests in the first half but not all the dates? Boo. It adds so much context to the upcoming part of the game.

Saj

The play was hugely popular in the original game and it was meant to look like a gradeschool production. They went all out here to give the fans what they wanted. Bravo to the team. FF7's story was revolutionary. Nothing was close to it's narrative depth at the time and you haven't even seen maximum drama yet.

Saj

You can skip all the side missions :D. Highly recommend. The Skywheel scene is a treat as the culmination of the relationship mechanic and even that has a high or low affection version. You could go on the Skywheel date with Tifa and just hug her. Aerith is usually Rosa in the play unless you go out with Tifa/Yuffie and then they will be Rosa. The lines of the play and Aerith's song are foreshadowing of the main story in a (if you know, you know kind of way). Tifa/Aerith are Romantic but everyone else is really unique and a good friendship bonding moment.

Alexandre Isurugi

Us OG fans have been waiting for that kiss for 30 years.

just to answer the questions you've been asking generally, yes people play these games to experience the parts between the cutscenes, and the point of the endeavour is simply to do the two to three hours of dungeoneering or exploring the open world, using your abilities and resources effectively while building up your characters, either by finding things or completing challenges, from doing pathetic damage to a rat at the start to destroying a god at the end. and there is no better feeling to me, than the start of one of these games, the journey is the entire point. its fascinating when someone is on the complete opposite end of the scale and sees everything that isn't main story as filler, waste of time etc, because i think a lot of game criticism comes from the stream viewer who does see combat and mini games as getting in the way of the only thing they care about, but most people aren't comfortable admitting they just watch games and not play them. i think its a big giveaway that people didn't play the game if their least favourite parts are the combat heavy parts or skippable minigames, because things aren't skippable when watching a stream. the last thing i'll say is the original is nothing compared to this. the original wasn't my favourite game, but as a 12 yo it made me wonder what will games look like in the future, so seeing their real vision is so much better than the original is quite satisfying

Elliot Bowker

not having a go at people who watch streams or anything btw, theres a lot of entertainment out there and we all want to experience as much as possible, but its like critiquing a sport you've only watched highlights of and not even a full match

Hypnosimp

I personally prefer the Aerith one because it feels more intimate and Cloud feels like his authentic self. It makes more sense for his development as a character. Also it fits better for thematic significance of the play since it’s very symbolic of the themes/narrative of the ff7 story. And lastly you get a pretty significant setup for a story beat that will come later on.

Hypnosimp

I love Cloud threatening Kyrie with her comeuppance. Oh the dutch angles during Aerith’s song, I always thought they were just for stylization but considering the lyrics maybe not. O.o! Yeah even Tifa brings up the fact that they’ve never been close as kids. All the awkwardness makes it feel very out of character for Cloud to actually get the courage to kiss Tifa at this point in the story. It’s pure fan service. It never comes into play later which is a shame cuz you’d think this would be a big step for the two characters but… i guess if this is supposed to be canon that means they’re both too awkward to ever want to acknowledge it ever again. Which is such a weird non-development for two primary characters to have. I’m really excited to see how the lie will come into play in part 3 because both Aerith and Tifa lie to Cloud about Zack on their dates.

DefaultArk

Kai would love "Yakuza" aka "Like a dragon" games but they're so long

ItsMeSnoops

Man... No Promises To Keep, whether it's the song on its own or the scene with Aerith singing it, always gets to me. Plus if I wasn't crying already, seeing the crew (Jessie, Biggs and Wedge) just sends me over that edge. I love this story, I love these characters. It's rare for a game to hit me as hard as FF7R has. Lies of P and Expedition 33 are the only ones that have up to this point. Anytime I listen to the soundtrack of FF7, I always get goosebumps and get emotional.

Hctaz

That scene with Marlene and Zack around the 55ish minute mark: I know you've finished the game at this point, so I will just talk freely about the entire plot of the original game up until the point at which this game ends and explain Marlene cuz it's a little confusing if you didn't play the original. In Remake, the Aerith we see has knowledge of future events that she shouldn't possibly have at this time. She shows them to Marlene to calm her down, and that's what it's showing in the flashback. Aerith shows Marlene all of the future. She also shows Red XIII the future as well. Aerith and Red have forgotten because the Whispers took the memories from them. Aerith talks about it earlier on in the game when she's in the room with Tifa. She admits that she used to know everything that happened- future and past- and now she doesn't. In the original game, Sephiroth kills Aerith at the temple, and there's no confusion surrounding the moment like there is in this game. We don't know what exactly is going on in the ending of this game, and we won't know until part 3. But that's why Marlene knows about these events. She knows Aerith is supposed to die in the future.

Hctaz

Aerith's song still gives me tears in my eyes. Just hearing "Walking city streets...." and the waterworks comes out for me.

Hctaz

Okay since I know you've finished the game already, the comment you made at 1 hour 21 minutes and 29 seconds is HILARIOUS in hindsight, huh? XD

Hctaz

My wife LOVES Cloud+Tifa, and I recorded her reaction to the Tifa date scene on my phone when we were first playing it. Cutest shit of all time. I love her :) Honestly too, out of all of the possible date options, this is one of the best ones. It's also the only one you get a kiss in. You can go with Yuffie and Cloud kinda pushes her away and acts like an older brother, and she kinda apologizes and talks about how she actually met this SOLDIER a while back who she had a mega crush on (it's Zack and this scene was in a prequel game) and Cloud reminds her of him. Cloud kinda helps her in a brother sort of way. There's a scene with Barret which is just them discussing life. A scene with the ragtag bois which doesn't go super well, and one with Aerith of course.
