Oh My GAAAAAWD! I haven't laughed this much in ages and before you think that's bad, oh no it isn't. That means I'm having a blast and absolutely loving what I'm watching. It's the best compliment I can give a Horror movie!

What an experience and what an inspirational piece of art. Story first baby! Even when the movies Director is offered a large sum of money for creative control, nope!

The question I had going into this was, is this movie that damn good or is it overhyped?

Overhyped because audience members are starved of an experience and that something different from traditional “blockbusters”. I do have an answer now I’ve finished it but you’re going to have to Play The Tape to hear it.

Without giving the answer away fully, that night I was left still thinking about the movie. Not what I was watching technically which is shocking on its own but the story. How Nikki must feel and the moment she calls out. There’s a certain line that at the time didn’t hit me as hard as it did that night. Goosebumps, wow!

Been so hyped for you to watch this ever since I saw it in theaters!

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

I would have loved to have watched this in the theatre purely to see how others reacted to it! Yikes. Enjoy it!

Let’s Fnnnnn GOOOOOOOO😂 I saw this twice in theaters, could not stop looking away no matter how much I wanted to. I am so happy you covered this, my family and I started breaking it down and analyzing; and with all that I learned from this Channel: I could not have enjoyed it more! And the theater reactions were of another level! The screams and laughter. The tension was palpable 😂

Tesa

I went into this movie with not much expectation and boy it delivered

Ned Bluffard

😂 I can't believe you called the guy on the hotline being the director.

Barker’s Pub is a nod to Curry Barker

I saw a someone say Curry must have read the popular screenwriting book “Save the Cat” and turned it in its head and killed the cat at the beginning. Bear never tried to save Nikki. Even his “attempted” (because he was going to throw the pills up) suicide wasn’t to save Nikki, Bear was trying to escape his personal hell.

I joined Patreon for this. I’ve been wanting to and it gave me the impetus to finally do it.

I think Nikki in shadows shows she’s simply a shell of herself

The popular theory is that Obsessed Nikki is actually Bear's cat Sandy because of how cat-like she behaves throughout the movie. Not to mention how she created a memorial for the cat and made him eat the cat.

Light

Uh oh kai, wait till you find out that a lot of gen z is way over 20 lmao. 😭

The best theater reaction I've had was the second time I saw this movie in the theater. The whole theater was so into the movie, it was amazing. When Nikki was creeping out of the corner of the room when u can barely see her, some guy audibly said, "ahh, fuck that!". It was hilarious but added so much!

I think the demon was just trying to be like his cat because it saw how much he loved the cat.

Light

We are uncs now🥺

When I saw this movie I couldnt stop thinking about all the things you have been teaching us through watching other movies or games. How the lighting worked on Nikki and Bear to highlight how fucked they were, the use of composition to leave Nikki in the corners or even the use of long takes or fast cuts in different scenes. I think that in a few words, with you I have been learning how to appreciate these type of movies when they come out. Before I would have only said I liked the movie, but now I can say why I liked it and its very rewarding so thanks for that

Fsaitza

Also I could help but notice a few similarities with "Weapons". Maybe thats the type of horror movies that we are getting now and its going to be a trend

Absolutely loved this. My first time watching this movie overall and I Absolutely loved learning about the different techniques. And I love these smaller more grounded simple stories more then the 'bigger' stuff. This movie really reminds me of smile i think it's the possession/demony type thing. Idk just wanted to get my opinion out there ig since I'm new to patreon and Kai's channel on it Absolutely loving it.

My favorite details in the movie are in the final showdown. Nikki has tried to copy Sarah completely because she thinks Bear loves her. She tattooed herself but is just scribbles, she starts to smoke as much as possible like Sarah, she is wearing her clothes, and... one that most people did not catch, she hits herself with a brick just like she did to Sarah. I also like the detail, that I did not catch until I watched it with you here, is at 1:41:00, you can see the real Nikki come through and yell "Stop!" She then immediately switches back to freaky Nikki, abruptly (once again, Inde Navarrette is a phenomenal actress). I believe this is because she knew the demon was going to kill someone in that house, either Bear, herself, or Ian (or all 3) because she saw Sarah dead in the corner. Just spitballing but the little details in this movie are just so amazing and I notice something new every time.

Amazing reaction mate!! Just saw The Odyssey and all I can is WOW!! Ik it probably won’t come out until November for you to react to but I’m excited for it. All the practical, on-location shooting, cinematography, and everything being in camera for 95% of the film… I think you’re gonna love it!

Galactic Knight

Genuinely a sleeper movie. Expected it to be great and somehow it was even better. Genuinely my favorite horror movie ever!

So glad you watched this. I haven’t watched The Odyssey yet so I can’t 100% confirm this statement, but this is my favorite movie of the year thus far. Some notes about the movie, Nikki’s actress, Inde Navarrette, basically said that the “real” Nikki witnessed everything that “wish” Nikki did; she compared it to like “real” Nikki looking through “wish” Nikki’s eyes like seeing through a wedding veil. So, the real Nikki witnessed everything. The sex (which wasn’t consensual for real Nikki… haven’t finished this reaction but you may pick up on it, but this entire movie is a large allegory about women’s autonomy over their own bodies and consent. or, in this case, lack of consent…), killing Sarah & Ian, everything. There’s “hints” (some are not subtle enough at all to call hints lol) of this throughout the film, like on the Polaroid of her when she packed his lunch saying “not me”, her freaking out when they first kiss, and the moment in the party scene where she comes to and bashes her face with the bottle and screaming “it’s not me!”. That was “real” Nikki trying to escape by killing herself. So yes, to answer any questions of intentions, Bear is the villain in this film while Nikki is the true victim. Inde Navarrette also noted that she’s really sensitive when it comes to horror, and that the bedroom scene where Nikki’s in the corner watching Bear sleep is a scene that Inde herself refuses to watch. Yes, the person on the phone was the director, Curry Barker. He’s 27 years old (making him Gen Z btw… the start of Gen Z ranges from 1995-1997, so the oldest Gen Z’s are actually just turning 30!) & this is his first feature film in theaters. Hell of a directorial debut, eh? You can also see in the credits that he directed, wrote, and edited the movie. It was filmed in only 20-ish days or so. Curry Barker & Cooper Tomlinson (the actor for Ian) are best buds and run a comedy skit YouTube called “That’s A Bad Idea”. There’s also some horror short films on there, such as “The Chair” & “Milk & Serial” (which is actually an hour long so more like an actual film that he released on YouTube for free). Another comedian making good horror like Peele. Love to see it! Such a great movie on such a low budget.

Kieran Sweeney

Possibly thinking of Freestyler by Bomfunk MC rather than Bo Selecta :D.

Kieran Sweeney

Absolute tune! Wish I hadn't just looked at when that was released... 1999/2000 - suddenly feel very old!

Local Degenerate

Bear is up there with my most hated characters in movies lmao

DefaultArk

The oldest gen Z is in their late 20s or if you're push it 30

Xenomantis

single most overrated movie of all time imo I really feel the reviews that say this is "gen-Z incel horror". Everyone I've talked to irl over 30 just said "yeah I been there" Bear is a weirdo incel, wishing for someone to love you is inherently evil (you're wishing for a person to lose their free will to be your personal slave), and as somebody with multiple obsessed exes this just really wasnt that crazy. It was just a cartoonish version of my irl experience in dating. One of my exes even tried to poison my (then) current gf at her own birthday party I just do not get the hype. Every person in this movie is insufferable except Sarah and Nikki. It's horror for the unsocialized . It's a decent Black Mirror episode, it's a dogshit standalone flim. I do appreciate what they did with the budget tho

Kain D. Zero

Nip/Tuck was a good show. I didn't think it could get as dark as it did. Loved the characters.
