There I was thinking we’re going to continue the story with our boy Solid and especially after that cliffhanger in Metal Gear Solid 2!

Oh, silly me. Oh, very silly me…

Kojima, can I have a word son *SLAP!

This is it Kai, you've reached the starting point with the Metal Gear Saga. No going back now.

PeppaShrekky

Oh damn, doing Delta as well? Make sure to check out the secret theatre cutscenes too

PeppaShrekky

I checked out GLP video for the og mgs3 and it's actually a pretty decent one

Baki B

Dropped my ARRI Alexa LF to watch this

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

Stop dropping these while I'm at work xD At least I got something to look forward too.

Ocelot

The R1 prompt you see in the cutscenes is to go first person. Plenty of pervy sights to see 😆 there's even hidden first person views you can do at certain points where the prompt doesn't show. For example, you can see The Sorrow stood nearby after Snake gets thrown off the bridge by The Boss. You will find out why they have the powers they do, and also why the explosion after The Pain died. When you check out Delta, not only is it done using UE5, some of the cuts and camera angles are different. Would be good to see your input on whether Konami did well on this without Kojima.

Selph

Oh man, wasn't expecting this drop today. Best Sunday ever, plus it's the original one ! Love you mate ! I agree with you about secondary vilains. Sadly going forward, they won't be as fleshed out as they were in MGS1 & 2 (well... to be fair, you can learn quite a bit about em but a lot of it is through codec calls, and the confrontation is lacking).

John Mc Ternan

This is the most adventure like one of the series, the last 3rd of the game is just breathless

John Mc Ternan

Delta's just a shot for shot remake of metal gear solid 3, using all the same animations and voice acting but with a unreal 5 graphical overlay, it's a complete one for one.

John Mc Ternan

This is remarkably straightforward game (in a good way) that was praised at the time whereas mgs-2 was considered the convoluted one but is now considered the masterpiece of the series

ERIK

Kojima actually wanted a different voice for this Snake, he wanted Kurt Russell but that didn't happen. David re-auditioned and he was chosen in the end.

ERIK

MGSV is the masterpiece of this series in my opinion, but MGS2 comes a close second/might just be on par

ERIK

20:04 Yes, you actually have to hunt for food to refill Snake's stamina gauge

John Mc Ternan

The Boss looks very like the the actress Robin Wright but she does look like Katee Sackhoff too.

AgentRedShirt

Buckle up, Dorothy, because Kansas is going bye-bye. Also, they did not do this in this play through. But when you start the game, especially the original one it gives you a list of choices to pick where like you’ve never played before or you like MGS one or you like MGS2. If you pick you like MGS2, which at the time of release obviously was the only other option, now with Delta there’s quite a bit more, but it still works this way. When you initially see your character, he looks like Raiden from MGS2. It kind of gave me like what the fuck moment. And then once you land and he takes off his gear at a certain point during the initial radio contact on the ground zero tells them the team isn’t watching anymore. You can take the mask off. Snake replies with “yeah this isn’t right. Time for the snake to shed its skin“ and then he peels off his disguise, revealing his actual character. I still find it hard to believe even after all these years, how good this looks, and this was on PS2 of all things. The stuff they were able to get out of old hardware is truly amazing.

AgentRedShirt

I agree with you from a gameplay perspective. The gameplay was amazing. The story though? Not so much. There’s almost next to none of it, but that’s kind of the nature of an open world type game. But yeah, at the time MGS2 felt a little offputting because who is this other blonde guy? All of the marketing material for the US was saying snake was back. And then we got the switch about an hour or so in. But once you complete the series at the end of MGS4. It all comes full circle so now it makes sense but at the time it was very, what the heck is this?

LordKnoppers

I guess z-axis stands for zammit-axis?

ERIK

I disagree. I think you just haven't actually looked at the story for what it is. There's SOOO much of it. I won't go into details because spoilers for Kai but saying there's next to none is a CRIMINAL disservice to MGSV. You can keep running with that, many have, but it's been disproven over and over again

Christian Watts

The black face paint is supposed to be used to hide in the dark shadows, but considering they already have the disguise on, it wasn't necessary to have it on other than the shock factor that you can wear it in cutscenes. My sus meter has increased regarding the channel you're reacting to though. regardless, I cannot recommend enough to react to Metal Gear Solid 4 - The Movie [HD] Full Story from KefkaProduction. They put ALOT effort in to the cuts.

Caleb Lupino

Absolutely criminal that this upload cuts out the intro song that plays between the first and second missions. One of the most iconic parts of the game!

Jonas B

So glad to finally get back to Metal Gear! On top of that I'm even more glad that you're enjoying it as much as we have been for the last...3 decades?!?? Hearing you'll do Delta as well is a nice surprise as MGS3 in particular works really well on a repeat playthrough due to all the subtle hints and foreshadowing of what's going on. Still for the time being I can't wait to get through this and MGS4 in particular. P.s yes, the jungle environment and the new gameplay systems are super fun and engaging. I'd argue that MGS3 is one of the most fun and replayable games period (on top of it having one of the best stories of any game period) P.s p.s You're pretty good 👉🏻😼👉🏻

vitreouss

at 54:03 it's actually meant to be visually raining blood here but the team that did the HD remasters broke the effect. konami didn't fix it for the legacy collection release either. the original ps2 version has it and it's restored in Delta

Jonas B

P.s p.s p.s This video cut out arguably one of the greatest parts of the game - the James bond style opening with the original song "Snake Eater". PLEEEEAAAAASE check it out/include it at the start of the next video. You have to see it and hear it!

Jonas B

My problem with the story of 5 is just how much of it is delegated to OPTIONAL and easily missable audio-tapes. I don't recall off the top of my head but I think the game itself only has like...3-4 hours of cutscenes and what...like 10 hours of audio tapes? Yes, they are vital to understanding and enjoying the plot fully but I cannot get past the fact that they just don't integrate naturally into the story

Alex

Commencing Operation Snake Eater!!! Also check out the music video intro, the song is legendary (and I don’t believe it will spoil any of the game)

Alex

And it comes back in a “Tall” way later ;)

Neko_Otaku_ Guy

The Woodland and Tiger stripe are the Camoflauge and face paint, the percentage shows how well Snake is hidden from enemies. For example you can press up against a tree and with the right camos be nearly invisible to an enemy right next you.

PeppaShrekky

Also Kai should use Kefka for MGSV too, he includes the tapes and extra cut content

AgentRedShirt

I’ve noticed a lot of that from gamers little playground, especially. I’m guessing because it gets monetized or claimed or something if they put it in. That’s why I guess anyway because the title of the video is literally all cut scenes, and the intro is most certainly a cut scene. I think they did the same thing for 007 first light as well. Cut out the whole intro title sequence. It sucks from our perspective, but I get why they do it. Maybe they cut out the intro and did that specifically for a separate solo video.

AgentRedShirt

Oh definitely. This game they changed the status quo format. Before you just had a Health bar. And a stamina gauge on the second one for tranquilizer shots or whatever but in this game, you don’t get rations in the traditional sense. Food and other goodies replenish your stamina in a bar and then depending on how high your stamina bar is your health naturally regens over time. Let it fall too far and you’ll just straight up pass out standing up or in first person you trying to aim can be a lot harder cause your hands are shaking. So it’s less about the stealth action and they added survival elements into it.

AgentRedShirt

Oh sorry about the double comment. I know I made a pretty lengthy post earlier, but I made it before finishing watching the whole video. Now that I have, we didn’t know what to expect. The only thing that we saw in the promo material leading up to the release was back to the origin. And it had something to do with the Cold War. So we kind of had the same question you did at the time early. I did myself. You get introduced to this jack character. They gave him the codename snake. He’s got David’s voice. And you’re dealing with somebody called the boss. I won’t divulge too many details. I don’t know if you’ve seen the whole thing by now and it’s just being edited or what but there’s a lot of twists in this game. You’re gonna love it.

Donald's Cloaca

Kai, you really need to see the intro. Absolutely insane that they removed it for the video you're watching.

UnusedDogSlice

Just a fyi Kai the reason the fear explodes is because there where bombs put in them during their service in ww2 so they wouldn't be captured by the enemy so they would die this was in a codec call with Sigint this playthru vid dosnt have most the codec calls which sucks bc some are very funny but those are thru gameplay and not triggered like a cutscene

Donald's Cloaca

Yeah, it's meant to play after Boss throws Snake off the bridge and he sees the big nuclear blast. It's got an iconic song so they probably removed it for copyright.

ERIK

Nahh, it has 5 hours of cutscenes and around 5 hours of tapes. Some of it is optional but it's a meta-narrative way of storytelling and Kai will see how. I know, it can feel like a mistake but believe me, it was not

AgentRedShirt

Not saying theres nothing there. But compared to literally any of the other games, the presentation is significatly thinner. Scenes are scattered much farther and in between what could pass for self contained missions to a point, compared to say, MGS4, which was the polar opposite. Now I cant speak for everyone, only from what i personally experienced. Loved the gameplay. Some of the best ever. But i missed the 30 min cutscenes in between, which is part of what I consider makes a metal gear game, a metal gear game.

PeppaShrekky

Yeah, that is one of the weaker parts of MGS3. The Cobra Unit don't have much depth to them, they just sort of appear and then die. But The Boss is just so good I can forgive it

Alan Stock

Yeah it's a great way to fuck with the players, worth watching the intro on a different channel just to see.

Alan Stock

Yes the jungle gameplay is actually really good. This one is generally a lot more stealth focussed than the previous games, lots of crawling through grass and using the camo system, the radar is actually an item you need to use, lots of using the environment to help you. The areas are a bit larger and more open compared to previous games (seperated by loading screens), so you have a bit more freedom in how to approach areas. In general the moment to moment gameplay is quite a bit better than MGS1 and MGS2. Sadly for some of the side bosses, you are right that they have poor characteristation and world building compared to the last games. A lot of their background etc is done over the radio in optional conversations. Fortunately it's made up for by the big generals being really well built up. Worth noting that in the game you can heal cuts, broken bones etc so although Snake gets battered all the time in cutscenes you can heal him back up in the gameplay after. Beats nomming rations I guess!

ERIK

Yeah, I feel you. That's why I think Kai will benefit from just watching the cutscenes and listening to the tapes. The game and its story is amazing, quite profound if you look at its deeper layers.

PeppaShrekky

Nope, Konami didn't cut or remove any content from Delta. People were worried that they'd cut some of the scenes with EVA but they didn't.

PeppaShrekky

Some of them are fleshed out a little bit more, but I will say that it's in a later game, not this one.

PeppaShrekky

Kefka did a really good video for MGSV, he does a few missions and then plays the essential tapes

AgentRedShirt

Once I realize what it was, I was like OK that’s funny. But so far all of the cut seem play through that I’ve seen that I’ve come across readily anyway have not done that. I’m tempted of posting one of my own just to say hey, if you do this, I’m actually impressed. They kept it in Delta.

ERIK

2:02:25 It's simply camouflage, no racist connotation behind it, don't worry 2:06:20 They do, but it's an optional CODEC call and they don't seem to be included in this video. Except for Volgin, his powers remain a mystery

ERIK

Vouch. Both MGS4 and MGSV from KefkaProduction should be the go-to, Kai.

Ivan Brkljačić

I was going to write a big comment on how this game is different from before, but i'm afraid that any details i try to point out, might give you hints to the amazing story. So just enjoy it. The only way you could appreciate Kojima's masterpieces more is by playing the actuall games. But it would take you several months to finish one. xD

Masu

Surprisingly I have heard no backlash from Eva now that Delta came out and currently living in the fruity colorful era

AgentRedShirt

Yeah, and that’s what I was getting at originally. I mean that’s just the nature of open world gameplay in general. There’s an overworking story but because of the nature of the way, open world works you kinda have a freedom of choice to do things how you want when you want so key points in the story might hit differently for different people. It’s not as straightforward as any of the others. And the fact that toward the end, they are the whole fall out between Konami at the end there.

Xandur

Shagohod?? they're shagging WHO??

The Dutch Dude

Glad you are a fan of metal gear! Kept us waiting, huh?

Magnet Hand

Oh my days your face when snake walked in with that face camo I laughed so hard

HillBillyPhilly

Did you spot the voice actor for Winnie The Pooh? 😂

Richard White

This game has some of my favourite cinematic moments in the series. Pretty much the entire back third of the game is break neck. But behind all the spectacle this is the best character arc for the protagonist in the series.

Feyd

MGS V I think is the only one where Snake is not voiced by Hayter.

The Dutch Dude

"I dont think Kojima sexualizes women". Yes. Absolutely. Totally agree. Couldn't have said it better myself. *slides MGS5 under the bed*

Major Malfunction

I'm a very big fan of how David Hayter was very particular about how Snake should sound in every game, like how Solid sounds younger and more energetic and Naked Snake sounds more gruff and serious. He's mentioned how the performance changes in each game to fit the character he's playing and their life experiences in particular. The little differences make such a big difference, it's why I believe Hayter is one of the best voice actors in the industry

Christopher Bonilla

Please watch the intro it shouldn’t get copyrighted I don’t know why they cut it

Christopher Bonilla

He was probably wearing black face paint just for the night time it helps with camouflage but your supposed to take it off when you disguise yourself as a scientist I don’t know why he kept wearing it

AmbatuPlay

YESSSS! He's really getting into the series! Love you KAI!

Yuriy

Hideo should have added Naked Snake's cheeks, like with Solid and Raiden in MGS 2, to counterbalance the sex appeal of Eva

Carlos

Wait this isn’t delta?! It’s literally the exact same 😭😭😭😭

Dominoan

What a thrill..

Dominoan

It’s the other way around, Solid is the gruff and retired dog musher alcoholic, and Naked Snake is the spry and eager patriot ready to take on the mission. David Hayter goes into this in his interviews.

5Tom51

Metal Gear 3 definitely suffers the most from this cutscene compilation. The codec calls during the game explain a lot of stuff in the game, and this edit didn't include any of them, not even the introduction of Sigint

Ruukasu97

metal gear sold 4 is where the story continues and its the chornological last game after metal gear rising which is set in 2018 metal gear solid 2 happens in 2007/2009 and Metal Gear Solid 4 in 2014

Ruukasu97

Solid snake, liquid snake and solidus snake were born in 1972

Ruukasu97

EVA is the best, even in the remake

Ruukasu97

The black face and the coat is just one of the disguises. the lab coat is what EVA gave him so he can walk around inside the facility. The face is for dark rooms i believe

Auritus

I really hope you get to see the goofy alternative cutscenes they included in secret theatre mode.

Justin Wentz

As irritating as it is for Gamer's Little Playground to use that black face paint during that cutscene, it exhibits something that was remarkable about the old Metal Gear Games. Kojima Productions were creating genuine real-time cinematics where player-chosen character customizations during gameplay could be retained. It's always been this way with MGS. For other developers, it would've been common at the time to pre-render cinematics (even if you were still using real game assets) in order to add some extra visual polish, which most games of the time desperately needed. And pre-rendering would've made it basically impossible to add this sort of feature.

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

You know what, I didn't even think of that. Magic! Today, we take everything for granted. Thank you for bringing this up!

Tony

I feel the pain from how much important stuff is cut from the game footage..............

Kain D. Zero

Hello. New big fan of the channel and a MGS fan since 1999. Love your reactions!

Kain D. Zero

Big Boss is not Big Boss yet. In MGS5 the main character is voiced by Kiefer Sutherland. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the last one with David Hayter as a voice actor in the franchise before the Delta version of this game of course.

Kain D. Zero

As I've mentioned before on your Youtube channel Hideo Kojima always wanted to replace David Hayter as the voice actor or Snake. Kojima loves Hollywood movies and always tried to get a Hollywood actor to play Snake in the original game and also in the sequels. He wanted Kurt Russel to play Snake since Kojima got the idea for Big Boss and Solid Snake from the movie Escape From New York. Kojima later wanted Kiefer Sutherland to play the main role and finally succeeded in it in Metal Gear Solid 5.

Kain D. Zero

When you've played all these games or watched all of these stories as videos you will realise the Codec frequensies themselves have their own tell as well.

Kain D. Zero

You are correct, Kai. We are made to believe Snake speaks Russian with Sokolov while we hear them speaking English.

Kain D. Zero

I absolutely love the first scenes with "Snake" and Ocelot. The way Snake teaches Ocelot to switch to Revolvers.

Kain D. Zero

You will get Moebius's voice actor from Legacy of Kain Richard Doyle in this game as well. I love his voice. One of my all time favorites.

Kain D. Zero

The nuclear explosion after Volgin shot that nuclear weapon Davy Crocket is a very important moment in the game franchise's history.

Kain D. Zero

1:43 <- And this is how Ocelot learns he needs two Revolvers instead of just one.

Kain D. Zero

Tornado Yoshida (real name Satoshi Yoshida) is the real-life guntwirling artist who provided the motion capture for Major Ocelot’s famous revolver-spinning animations in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Check out some of his videos.

Kain D. Zero

The bosses are handled differently in this game. They don't have conversations with Snake after they lose.

Kain D. Zero

Granin is the inventor of Metal Gear.

Kain D. Zero

The player needs to blend into every environment in the game. There is a percentage you see after selecting each face camo & body camo which represents how well you currently blend into each environment.

Kain D. Zero

Check out the picture again at time 2:04:44. The one on the right looks unmistakeably like Hal Emmerich (Otacon). It is actually Dr. Huey Emmerich, his father.

Kain D. Zero

Please remember to check out the game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as well. It is an important part of Metal Gear lore.

Kain D. Zero

You will know everything in Metal Gear Solid 4 which will be an amazing conclusion to Solid Snake's story and that game has many bittersweet reveals. I can't wait to see you see them. I love to see and hear other people's reactions to stories Iove. It's always like I am also experiencing the story for the first time in a unnique way throught the eyes of the person whose reactions I am watching.

Kain D. Zero

You can have hundreds of unique Codec calls with a lot of many characters in the game. You can eat many different kinds of fruits, snakes, frogs, birds et cetera. You can learn huge amnounts of stuff in the Codec calls so if you only watch the gameplay and cutscenes you miss out on a lot of the game lore.
