Here we are… A game that depending on what side of the claw blade you’re looking at, can either be a piece of trash, boring and review badly or beautiful, action packed, marvellous acting and worth buying!

Spoiler alert and I want to be clear here. I loved this. So much so, I wanted to pop out and get me some physical disk action! Granted I’m not playing the game but we certainly are watching a MOVIE! Holy stogie smoke. Logan would be proud of that one.

There’s been multiple times today, the day after I filmed this reaction that I’ve wanted to play this game or I’ve thought about it. That’s a bloody good sign even for a non-gamer like me. I say that, I am a gamer but maybe not the bread and butter of the industry but then again… Is this why this game is working for me?

Questions, questions and more questions. Sounds very Marvel like.

This is a brand-new game and if you’re currently playing. Then know this video is here whenever you want. By the end of the video, we’re about to head of to Logan’s cabin. Well, that’s what he says.

If you’ve made it that far in the game then this video is ready for you. If you don’t watch… I’ll give you the bladed bird like Logan did to Sabretooth. Such a bad arse moment!

Play the Tape!

Oh boy. This game has the big Playstation production values but beneath all that there's nothing really. Story sucks too, but expected as much after Spider-Man 2 and them no longer collaborating with comic writers. Not the worst game ever made but definitely not good enough for 70 quid when there are so many other amazing games coming out. Only thing I can really praise is the performances of the cast.

That's what I'm watching here and I really like it, love it in fact but... As I said above. I'm not playing it. Is it boring then?

Dm I

I'm 7 hours in and I don't get all the negativity. I can admit that this is not the best game this year, but people make it sound like it's awful. While I enjoy it pretty much. Really interested to hear what Kai thinks.

Well, I got plenty of games to play, so skipping one with too much drama going on doesn't hurt me. But I will definitely give it a try in the future on a discount. However, for now. I'm just gonna watch it with you. So let's see how it is.

HillBillyPhilly

I just started this today. It's been getting some good reviews from the community so far.

I think it just comes down to if people don't like the story, cuz Ive been playing it and the combat is so fun and challenging unless Im just shit💀🤣

SaltyInternetPirate

Well, this is definitely going in the "Watch Later" category, because I'm not done with the game. There was so far one cutscene that was pretty terrible acting that the director should have made them redo it or even rewrite it. As for gameplay, the combat is very unpolished. Maybe I'm overestimating myself by playing on hard (not maximum), but parries don't do shit. Dodges rarely get you out of range of the attack, and there's no strategy to the fighting. I am also definitely in the second act. Possibly more than halfway through the story.

Reacher

Yeah, the main criticisms seem to be that the gameplay loop is pretty stagnant. Whereas with say Spider-Man 2018, or even Spider-Man 2 to a lesser degree, there was some depth and freedom to the gameplay. They perfected Spidey's swinging and the gadgets provided some extra flavour to combat. Here, it's mash attack to farm Rage and use abilities off cooldown whenever they're available, kind of like an MMO in that sense. Skill tree is lacklustre as well, and stealth is a weird choice for Wolverine I have to admit. And this is all before we get to the story which has diluted some of the character aspects us fans want from these characters. The writing seems to be on par with a lot of other AAA titles of late, in that it's very millenial coded. At one point I saw that Wolverine and Mystique play 'Never Have I Ever' as if we're back in 1996 college 🤣 Then there's weird shit the narrative director himself has come out and said, such as Sabretooth and Wolverine "yearn" for one another. And sure, he most likely means it in the brotherly way, but it's still a red flag. Especially with the context of the writing and that people like Sweet Baby Inc are involved. Then you have the handholding the game has and the on-rails moments of being able to fail QTEs with no consequence, and finish the motorbike sequence without touching the controller. The game seems to have the millenial idea of adult and gritty. It's watered down in it's substance (characterisations, plot, writing, gameplay) but it's got blood and gore and so it must be a good depiction of badass, no nonsense Wolverine! 6/10 seems to be a fair score for the game. Slightly above average, and some good things to find in there if you are of a certain disposition

Reacher

The analogy I use for this game is that, sure, a 6/10 experience at a local diner where you spend 30 quid in total for you and your date can be a cracking night. But if you and your date just put down £100+ at a Michelin star restaurant and what you got from it, was a 6/10 experience, you'd feel robbed. Insomniac is one of the premiere studios of one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. And this is said company's flagship title for this year. Insomniac also have experience in this field, this is their 4th superhero game. And what the fans got didn't live up to expectations. Also, having standards and expectations is a good thing I think, especially for developers like this. It was made for $300M+ and we're paying full price for the game. Getting a 6 or even 7/10, while fine in a vacuum, is a big let down

Any idea when the next john wick reaction will be up and I also would recommend the spin off Ballerina.

Chris Tylee

Your opening point about maybe being inspired by a piece in this and you would never have experienced that if you just listened to the reviews and never played it, one of the greatest points I’ve ever heard! You absolutely cooked Kai!

cojiiii

In my opinion, no, but then again I haven't finished the game. That being said, and again this is just my opinion: I think a significant amount of the negative reviews or feedback people have been providing has a lot more to do with not wanting to give Sony a "win" due to their decision to cancel disk production by January 2027, whether the person knows it or not. I'm not happy about that decision either, but I try to not let it affect how I view their developers and the games they are putting out. Unfortunately, I think that has led to a lot of bias driving people to givea harsher opinion about this game then they would otherwise.

cojiiii

Thanks for letting us know.

Chris.N7

@cojiiii I think that's a bit disingenuous. You can't just hand wave away peoples criticisms of the game by chalking it up to controversy and outrage over the physical copy stuff. It's totally fine if you like the game but for a lot of people it's not up to the standard of the usual Playstation exclusive.

Dm I

It works the other way around, too. Many of those who criticize the game haven't even played it. Therefore, it is naive to listen to everyone's criticism and believe it is based on genuine opinion. Without calling out names, there’s a review of the game on YouTube that has racked up over half a million views, in which the person behind the mic criticizes the game. The problem is, that same person admitted to playing it for only two hours before posting their review and sharing their opinion and "final thoughts". A common occurrence in game journalism these days. Yet people don't seem to care; the majority of comments say things like, "I knew the game would be crap!".

Love your view on art man in the first three minutes or so, you never know what's going to come along and change your life and it's almost always the thing you don't expect. There was an old self improvement guy who said be open to all human experience, because you never know what's going to come along and turn you on. Lost In Translation was that film for me, and the Battlestar Galactica series the reimagined one was that for me.

John Mc Ternan

Watching old Father Ted episodes men made laugh when literally nothing else would, so wonderfully good natured and still sharp. I used to do the licence tests in Gran turismo over and over again just driving a s***** Polo and it was almost meditative going around one corner over and over 🤣

omster

dear god, I counted on opening up the patreon and seeing this community recommend Kai the equivalent of AAA gaming's watershed moment 😂. this is one of those instances where toxic positivity can be a bad thing. In film terms, Wolverine will come to be known as gaming's Thor Love and Thunder, or maybe the modern Star Wars trilogy' ROTS

KotaVee

I'm about halfway through the game and while I have a couple of small nitpicks with a couple of things (like a couple of the enemies not being as fun or the damage on the suits being a bit too much and being the same on all of them) I am still having an amazing time. The gameplay is great and feels like you are Wolverine the same way that the Spiderman games do and the story still has me interested. I'm for sure enjoying it more than I did with Spiderman 1 or 2. I'm not sure why there is so much hate around the blue trail but in the game it is the in game version of Wolverine following a scent trail with what is going on in the story or to track down the whisky collectibles and isn't a constant hand holding thing for every objective. It's honestly a fun way to have some direction on where to go without having a direct waypoint. I didn't even know there were some mixed reviews of the game until watching your video but after looking it up it seemed to be mainly critics that were giving mediocre reviews with the PS Store having a 4.8/5.

nickwatic

the combat doesn't feel like it got the amount of love it deserved

LimitlessEntertainment

Once again, Gamer's Little Playground with the worst gameplay known to man😭
