I’m disappointed and feel betrayed.

What a title… What a bit of clickbait or is it!?

First off, like always on this channel. What I quote I actually say in the video and there’s a reason I say something with evidence of my thinking. This is not clickbait but I do want you to know, I really like this game. Parts of it I absolutely LOVE! It’s blooming marvellous. See what I did there? 😂

I also speak in the intro about buddy cop systems and how much or how present it is in modern games. Especially on the PlayStation side of things. Have a listen to that and let me know your thoughts on it below please.

I did think of a game [recent title] that didn’t do that and that was Death Stranding 1. DS2 had the doll in it, am I going mad or is this the way!?!?

What a ride Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was. I’m still gushing over Venoms design and actions in the movie… Movie!? Yeah. I instinctively typed that which goes to tell you what I think of the overall impression of this amazing looking/feeling game. We are so spoilt!?

However, is that everything?

Like always guys… Thank you for being here, hanging out with me and being apart of this Spider-verse adventure we’re on. Spider-Man is my favourite super-hero and we’re just getting started. Movies anyone?

See you in the video, I’ll keep your seat warm for you.

Play The Tape!

Kai

P.S. Any other Spider-Man games worth covering on the channel or is that it!?

Should definitely look up the side missions, there is definitely one that might excite you for the next game potentially.

All the games you mentioned 100% fit the buddy cop template, but what about the ones that don'tt? Ghost of Tsushima? Ghost of Yotei? Days Gone? Pacific Drive? Returnal? Saros? Horizon Zero Dawn? Horizon Forbidden West? The point I'm trying to make is not that you are wrong, because you aren't wrong - the buddy cop formula is a valid criticism that is present in many of their first party exclusives, but it's just another one of those things that has never been an issue with players until recently due to the decisions made by Sony that has resulted in extreme backlash. This doesn't apply to you, but IMO the only reason so many people give a shit about these things now (or pretending to care about them) is because of the confirmation bias that anything PlayStation related is being filtered through in order to reach conclusions like "Playstation has fallen off" or "great games aren't made anymore". It is significantly easier to think of examples that confirm a negative opinion on the spot then it is to think of positive ones to contridict it, hence why those games spring to mind for both you AND me (along with the fact that they are their all time best sellers, of course). Sorry, this is honestly in regards to what you said - I was just reminded of alot of heardd discussions occuring online right now, since your criticism fit the criteria for what I mentioned above. I haven't seen this specific frustration discussed online yet, but I'm sure if I had, all the games you mentioned would be classic examples that would be used to support the argument that Sony makes bad games, while none of the ones I mentioned would ever be brought up.

Sony doesn't make bad games, they're beautiful and brilliant. I just noticed this buddy cop thing thanks to playing Soul Reaver. Games where you really are one character. Loving the conversation hear. I can't comment on other channels etc but is this also the conversation they are having? Saros and Returnal are different games from the narrative heavy. I would class them differently. Regarding the other games, some I've not played or seen but Ghost, maybe that's why I really liked them? 🤔 They gave me that flavour of old. I also can't remember, maybe you could remind me. Did Ghost of Yotei have a bad write up? So far from what I remember playing, like wolverine. I love them. My cup of tea guvnor.

Good point regarding the story focus of the ones you mentioned. And nah I haven't heard this topic discussed much, at least not yet. There was some talk last year but it was before the current negative image Sony has painted for themselves. And again apologies, that probably sounded like a criticism of what you had said, but it wasn't because I totally agree (loved your reaction to the whole series too, btw). What it did was remind me that there's just been so much criticism (valid criticism, mind you) that I've been seeing online the last two weeks due to Sony's choices (deservedly so), and it's like "so these things didn't bother you for the last 7 years and now they do??". While it's obvious that YOUR criticism is actually rooted in what you've experienced from reacting to what you've seen on the channel, reading all the discourse online along with the timing of it all makes it impossible for me to think THEIR criticism is actually valid and not just them looking for any excuse to be negative sbout literally everything. If it wasn't this it would be that, yanno?

I was borne in the 90's and Peter Parker has always been my spider-man in all the games, movies and tv-shows and didn't really learn about Miles until these ps4/5 games came out. So yeah I was even more tilted than you were and I was so tired of them shitting on Peter Parker even from the beginning. Also a lot of people hated this face for peter parker they swapped out in the first game. While the original face actually looked like an slightly mature spiderman that was believable we got this 15 year old Tom Holland wannabe face. Yeah as you know a lot of people disliked the stealth sections from the first game and this director decided to double down on them instead. So not only were people even more pissed off but when it was leaked how much of the Venom stuff that was cut out. That is way more obvious when you actually play it. So if you think about it like this, we got 3(I believe the guy cut one out at the end in the video but I might be wrong) and they spent actual fucking money and time developing that bicicle ride with Harry in the beginning instead of developing Venom.... Jesus christ. With all that said, yes there is a lot of good stuff in there like tha graphics, music, the gameplay was improved a lot because of the added sets of powers for both Peter and Miles. When the game actually reaches those peak moments it has one of the highest peaks second to FF16 for me but man did this game leave a sour taste in my mouth and I will probably just watch the third game on youtube for closure. EDIT: Like another commenter said yeah there are a few side missions that are worth checking out... like a certain character that went missing from the first game :)

I think covering “Ultimate Spider Man” could be a fun one. The art style is second to none it’s like reading a comic book while playing a video game. Definitely not as grand as the insomniac titles tho.

Joany

The credits are fast because the player has the ability to make them speed up

Thinkace

If only they went for it and venom kills Peter just for miles to go nuts killing venom and taking his power

Jack_Fish

Also with the carnage side mission there is yuri wantanabe in it the cop Pete talks to in the first game she appears in it

I suspect that the inclusion of a "buddy" system or phone conversations is partially driven by modern gamers. A few months ago, there was talk about Netflix forcing characters in its films to state the obvious or verbalize everything because modern viewers are easily distracted and have much shorter attention spans. Constant chatter with a "buddy" allows you to do essentially the same thing: grab attention, explain character motivations, and spell out what the characters are doing and why. It’s not necessary in action-focused games, but I imagine it helps in story-driven ones.

Janne Tabell

I agree with all of your frustations about Peter Parker. I really think that this game was hit with a lot of dev trouble regarding cut content, budgets and stuff like that. The venom stuff is so beautiful and cool but it is rushed as hell, and I think if Insomniac was able to cook more with this then I think it would be a lot better game! But who knows what happens in those BIG meetings with Sony and Marvel :D

Joany

In terms of the buddy cop system... The Last of Us influenced narrative driven games a LOT, especially on the PlayStation side. Games usually go with what sticks and copy the most popular thing. I personally prefer a more grounded story with the main character only, especially in superhero games. They might tone down on the buddy cop system in years to come.

Joany

The writing was on the wall that Peter was nerfed in favour of Miles since at least the Miles Morales game. They're planning to double down and relegate Peter as a background character in 3. Part of the reason this game is controversial is because of the assumption that the writing is, shall we say, politically driven... despite this I still preferred this game in every aspect over the first one but I have no interest in 3.

Naughty Dogs next game Intergalactic is supposed to be like this. They said they wanted a greater emphasis on being alone and without a companion unlike their past games

Joany

That sounds more like it!

Venom has wings in the comics! Donny Cates' run introduced a lot of cool lore for Venom

Alexandre Bégin

On Symbiotes design and comic-book homages; The winged Venom and the twirly faced symbiotes are from the King in Black story arc where Eddie gets a symbiote power-up to get that form and new level of power, in the game that power-up might have come from the meteorites being reunited. The white suit is called Anti-Venom, a non-sentient symbiote that nullify and is toxic to symbiotes. The Original Harry's venom suit in the 1st part is from Agent Venom where the military looking venom's host is war veteran Flash Thompson. The symbiote that took MJ is called Scream and has another origin, personality and story in the comics.

I just noticed they reused the slamming montage combo of the sinister six against miles in Mr. Negatives dream sequence. Maybe not completely but it's the "Be Greater" trailer for the first game.

This is a ps2 game but it had a very nice story and artstyle, it’s called Ultimate Spider-Man. As a kid it was one of my favorites and it still holds up pretty damn well as an adult imo.
