I think this game was made for an older generation, well at least certain parts of it. That is what I’m thinking because guys… I’m still really liking this game including all the cliché writing.

Don’t get me wrong however, a few cracks have started to appear like glitches, $300 million reasons for it to not be there and that Buddy system AGAIN.

To be honest, it was there in the first part but it felt more about Wolverine and how characters moved around him due to the situation they were in. The way the story played out.

Now it’s Insomniacs buddy system with Jean, I don’t hate it but I hope she or someone else doesn’t start saving Logan on every occasion like they did with Peter [OG Spider-Man in SP2]. If they do, I’m not going to like it unless, it’s REALLY A VALID REASON.

Thinking about it… It should only be done once, normally the climax and only if the character is going to give their life so to speak for the greater good otherwise, you’ll damage the character like they did with my favourite. I know that cliche has been done before but I don’t want my characters, my MC, my superheroes to be as much use as a chocolate teapot.

If they do go down this road [saviour being saved all the time] … I’m more concerned someone at the studio has not brought this up or they think it works. Fingers crossed the game doesn’t do this.

So far, I’m liking the story even though it’s simple. I love the sexual tension between Logan and Jean. I absolutely loved the butting of heads between Essex and Logan. I even liked the aged characters!! I can not commend this enough.

Again… Made for an old boy who liked 80s and 90s movies. That’s me!

I heard somewhere that the writing in this game is “modern audience writing”, is that the whole woke thing and ticking boxes? Someone help an old boy out will ya.

I don’t believe in that sort of thing at all so maybe I’m refusing to see it.

Then again, people love to moan and are never happy whilst there is a hole in their arse! This game, the visuals and what you are “playing” here. We’re spoilt as gamers!

I feel some gamers are pitch fork people waiting to slay and burn the closest thing to them or simply they don’t see their reflection in the silver spoon hanging from their mouths! Better than a cock I suppose 🤔😂

Anyway… Play the Tape!

You're right in saying some gamers love to complain. I'd say there's some really toxic gamers out there and some damn right scumbags, who hate a game so much they even send death threats to actors or voice actors, makes me sick. Some people forget these are games and they fail to see good story telling, The Last Of Us part II comes to mind. Everything is 'woke' these days to some people, just the times we live in. The only time I have an issue is when it's completely unnecessary to the story, and even then, it's just the direction they wanted to take, like it or leave it

I got the platinum last week for this and would say 7 out of 10 is a fair assessment. The way it see it is people need to start seeing that 7 out of 10 isn't necessarily a bad thing not every game is going to get 9s and 10s. Sometimes I'm quite happy to have a game that I can just chill out too and enjoy the story for what it is.

I often think It must be terrible to be the parent of one of these developers, your child's probably bravely sacrificed years of youth in a highly specialised field, gone to college everyone's, spent 5 years grinding on a game for not great money, you're proud of them and want them to feel good, gamers expecting in the next GTA or Skyrim and within minutes their years of sacrifice are rubbished on metacritic then when the game is above average (I.e good). If it's anything less than groundbreaking these days, it'll be called slop or mid, a crime against the player. No wonder people don't want to try, the immediate feedback would kill any small courage you might have. I'm pretty sure most of my favourites stuff would never have got made if they listened to "the consumer is always right". It's why it's probably best to go radio silent for a long time.

Kai is blueballin us with the last MGS3 section, lol

For a game with a legendary IP like this and with a budget of 300 million to produce such a forgettable 5 or maybe even 6/10 game is just pathetic... This was one of the biggest disappointments since the new 'Dragon Age' for sure.

Hey Kai. To answer your question, Sabretooth can take bullets because he also has a healing factor thats actually stronger than wolverine's because he has no adamantium skeleton slowly poisoning him.

The original writer of Mystique wrote her as being in a romantic relationship with a woman in the comics, yes. However Marvel policy at the time didn't allow for overtly depicting same-sex relationships, which meant it was reduced to subtext for decades. Those complaining that games have gotten "too woke" just hate being reminded that queer people exist. Is it necessary to the plot? Maybe not, but neither are the majority of romances that get shoe-horned into the script regardless of sexual orientation.

You did not just call him a wolf…

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

Is that not what he helped in the snowy mountains? That wasn't a wolverine was it? I'll be honest, I've never actually seen one so I don't know how big they are.

Chris Tylee

Sorry I meant when they were in the cabin, around 10:30 you said he was sniffing her 👙 because “he’s a wolf” 😂 it just made me laugh because when Hugh jackman went to audition for the Wolverine, he didn’t realize the Wolverine is an actual animal so he learned how to act and sniff the ground like a wolf!! And they looked at him like a right div!

Kai Zammit - Filmmaker Reacts

I probably did say wolf but I knew what I meant. I did hear this regarding Hugh and I'll be honest, I didn't know he was based on a wolverine when I was younger, I just assumed it was a wolf too. We don't get wolverines over here in this country. Maybe a certain type of large badger would be the closest. If I showed my kids Wolverine the cartoon or something safe for them to watch. I bet they'd say the same animal. Wolf.

As someone who loves 80s and 90s movies, this doesn't have the same charm and authenticity to it. We're taking great characters, watering them down, and giving them a shoddy script. There in the cabin where they kept repeating "I could get used to this" was very eye-rolling, playing Never Have I Ever like a bunch of 90s highschoolers, making Jean kinda useless and a damsel in distress hiding in a storage closet, making contrived reasons for Jean and Logan to butt heads with the Walter and Hand thing (any adult would know, oh we can help Walter and then go fuck up the Hand. They aren't mutually exclusive). Even other stupid stuff where, the first interaction with Shiro ended quite amicably. He escorted us out, we gave him a piece offering. Nothing to it. Yet we walk outside and Jean's like "we really screwed things up with Shiro" acting as if we took him from being neutral to us, to now wanting to kill us. Just extremely weird writing across the board. This game, with the glorified gory combat and the swear words every 10 seconds, but everything else being watered down, gives me so many millennial vibes, but in a bad way. It has nothing to do with woke or modern audiences, if people have those criticisms, just what we are seeing with our eyes and hearing with our ears. There should be higher standards for a gaming studio with the prestige of Insomniac, and the amount of money they put into this.

SweetrollDealer

Ah yes the, "Revenge bad but it's fine to kill everyone else but your intended target" the game

I never understood how people flipped such a phrase as "woke" or "staying woke" meaning being aware of what's happening in the World and how its systems function into something negative. It's another one of those mindfucks where they want you to stay "enslaved", they want you dumber than a rock and sadly it works on a lot of people.

Josh Wilson

This game is one of those where i don’t really understand the writing choices for Wolverine’s solo debut (as a huge X-Men fan, just pick a story, not 5 at once?), nor why Insomniac insist on writing characters the way they do. Overall it’s a strong 5/10 game for me. It’s a visual feast but no replayability for me, even Spider-Man 2 with all its writing faults had electric gameplay that made up for it. That all being said, absolutely nothing about this or any other game certain people seem to title “woke” deserves the vitriol the devs receive. Unfortunately gaming has become this strange centrepiece of “it’s for us not for you” because they don’t appreciate gaming as an artistic medium, they view it as a product that should amplify their own worldviews. Art should always challenge, but seeing people get so bent out of shape over such a nothing burger game like Wolverine is insane. It may not do a lot right for me, but criticism should be levied at the right things.

He's been playing our monthly subscriptions like a damn FIDDLE!! and I am totally okay with that

Please don't get influenced by the slander and bizarre lies (Like logan having shaved pits lmao) from people that haven't even played the game. All the hate toward Wolverine is hate toward Sony misdirected by morons and trolls. All the stuff Sony's been doing this year was getting Wolverines trailers bombed hardcore, but once the game released the morons forgot it's not actually Wolverine that's the problem and jumped on an imaginary bandwagon. Wolverine's only crime is being Sony's flagship title right now. Spiderman 2 had incredibly weak writing, Wolverines narrative is a masterpiece in comparison to that trainwreck. The people that legit hate the narrative are the same people screeching into the wind about how bad TLOU2 is for the last 6 years. Delusional and safely ignored completely.

Got my platinum trophy last week. I’d give this game a solid 8/10. Many people complain about the plot and the writing. Personally, I think the writing in this game is far from perfect, but better than in 80% of Marvel movies. Which is not that hard to achieve tbh.

You're hyperfixating on LGBT-representation as being the sticking point, which is not what the general discourse (and complaints) about Wolverine has been. There's a part of the "anti-woke" crowd that will complain about that, of course, but that's not been the larger conversation. At least not from what I've seen. In the case of Insomniac as a company, their use of the narrative consultation agency Sweet Baby Inc. has been considered very controversial. They've also consulted with Sweet Baby Inc in the past on Spider-Man 2, which is why the "anti-woke" crowd got concerned the day Wolverine was announced. The problem is not so much the goals of Sweet Baby Inc. as company, but rather, public statements made in the past by some of their employees. That history is long and well-documented. Some of these are people have openly said horrible things about games as a medium and have deep ties to neomarxist movements. I think it's fair to point that out, the same way I think it's fair to point out if devs or employees have direct ties to, let's say, fascist movements. That goes for any medium. It makes you wonder about the intentions and motivations of the people involved. If they're more interested in the culture surrounding the medium - i.e. the politics - rather than the medium itself, then that's a problem. Or at least, that's my perspective. Where the "anti-woke" people tend to get things wrong is that they'll look at any connection between the employees to Sweet Baby Inc. and then blame any shortcomings of a game as the result of that connection. Most of the complaints people have about Wolverine has likely little-to-nothing to do with their involvement at all. But they assume that because a bad actor has been involved in the development, therefore they are to blame for everything. They'll just invent patterns. Where the "anti-woke" people tend to get things right is in identifying that some of the people working on games are not artist-first, but activist-first.
