Stephen Miles

History - The British win the war against the French and 20 years later the Americans' revolt against the British and become an independent country

lars

THANK YOU!

JK2222

Please do Dances with Wolves next.

Tron

Was this any good? I might be too young to remember this one lol

Jeffrey Roberts

Welcome back, Ivy! Ok, here are some fun facts that I will insert before Stephen gets his in. LOL. Fun fact #1: this war may have started due to the actions of a young British Lt Col named George Washington. Yes, THE George Washington, first President of the US and the Commander in Chief of the armed forces against the British. Fun fact #2: Historians consider this to be the first World War. It was taught to us in history as the French-Indian War, but that is not accurate. Many native tribes allied with the French, but others allied with the English. Many other countries were involved in tis conflict and it is often referred to as the 7-years War. The French ceded a lot of territory to the British and returned to what is now Canada. The French were more interested in trading while the British were more interested in expanding their territories. Like Stephen said above, the British win this war and a lot of the reasons for the Americans to revolt twenty years later were due to the taxes imposed to pay for this war. There were other reasons but this was the big one. Britain was broke thanks to this war and their othe colonization efforts around the world. One of the reasons the French helped the US in the Revolutionary War was to get vengeance for losing this war. So glad you reacted to this! The soundtrack is awesome along with the cinematography. Such a classic movie.

The Revenant (2015) Hostiles (2017)

JK2222

Ok, I am going to recommend two paths to follow up this movie with. I will call them the Native American vs US/Europeans path and the Daniel Day Lewis path. These are just my personal picks, and I am probably missing a couple. Daniel Day Lewis is considered by many to be the greatest living actor. Native American vs US/Europeans (I wish I had a better name for this). 1. Dances With Wolves (Best Picture winner) 2. The Mission (a very underrated movie) - deals with Catholic Jesuits in South America. 3. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee 4. Killers of the flower Moon (more recent directed by Martin Scorsese Daniel Day Lewis Path 1. There Will Be Blood (Best Actor winner) 2. Lincoln (Best Actor winner) 3. Gangs of New York (another Martin Scorsese film) 4. In the name of the father 5. My left foot (Best Actor winner)

Mr Jackpots

War never changes. Now, as then, it's always women and children lying dead under the burned rubble of their homes. You are Vietnamese so you already know this.

King Bob

Another historical fiction movie, historical inaccuracy irritates me especially when it sullies the character of real people..... The French General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm did not set the British up to be attacked by Huron; in fact, he intervented at risk of his own life to prevent the violence, reportedly putting himself between the women and children to keep them from harm. It also wasn't a battle, the British were disarmed of their weapons.

Duncan

Seconded. Exceptional movie!

Duncan

Thanks, Munchies - this really is an excellent movie! Going to be a ‘sit down and watch on Sunday’ one 🙂👍🏻

Duncan

Agreed. Artistic licence all over the place!

Manospondylus

I inherited a muzzleloader similar to that era. Watching him dual wield hurts my wrists. They are very front heavy.

Duncan

Ha! He’s incapable of putting in a bad performance. Ridiculously good!

Duncan

Haven’t seen it in years, and this catchup will be good. I just remember that the ending is *utterly* phenomenal. (emotional gut punch).

Fff

They don't make movies like this anymore. A tragedy.

Jeremy McCabe

the movie Geronimo with Wes Studi is a great native movie as well

Okey Dokey Smokey

I second this. Anything with Daniel Day-Lewis is a must watch. Also, I still can't believe the Munchies haven't watched Dances with Wolves.

steve oliver

Yay! I was hoping you would watch this one, can't wait to see your reaction.

Wxyz@73

Windwalker and Little Bigman are great movies as well. Back in the day. Rare classic movies. Dances with Wolves for sure. Lets see what movie munchies come up with next. :)

Grumpy Monk

I love the historical movies! It's nice to see Ivy again, she has a lovely outfit. It's interesting to hear the names of the tribes in this movie. The Mohawk are famous for their hair style. One of the great lakes is named after the Huron. The capital of Canada is named after the Ottawa tribe. You can try increasing the brightness on your screen to help see the dark scenes.

Johnny Sondergard

You should watch "Dances With Wolves" where you'll learn much more about the Native Americans

K

You are awesome Chi! Crushing it!

Grumpy Monk

That's a nice list. If I could vote, I would watch: 1. Dances With Wolves 2. Gangs of New York 3. Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee

Daryl 👽

I second this! Dances with Wolves is highly recommended!! And it stars Kevin Costner from Field of Dreams!!

Daryl 👽

Killers of the Flower Moon stars Leonardo DiCaprio as well! ^o^

be frank

i have also recommended Dances with Wolves in the past. One of my favorite movies

S_Vive

12:37... (Hella) "Make the world England? Really? I refuse that." Yep, so did we... eventually. Unfortunately, regardless of justifications (or lack thereof), now we can't seem to get out of a similar sort of thing around the world ourselves.

Juice

Great to see Ivy back and fantastic movie choice :)

Manospondylus

American Indians and East Asians share a distant source population like 20+ thousand years ago last I heard. Unless something recently changed that.

Manospondylus

btw. The wild animal at the beginning was a cougar.

Manospondylus

The French do seem to have a problem with their colonial troops "misbehaving" in horrifying way.

David Collins

As others have said, please watch Dances With Wolves. It's so good and exactly the kind of movie you guys love the most. It's the one I've been looking forward to the most since joining the channel, I can't wait!

Daryl 👽

Please. In the future, if you're about to die, please make sure to die with your eyes closed. Out of respect for Chi 🤣

Daryl 👽

Great reaction girls. Would love for you girls to watch more history of the Native Americans to understand them more. 🥹 *hint hint* Dances with Wolves *hint hint**

Duncan

(On the assumption that you’re from the States)….. Yes. We (the English) did some awful stuff for a bit. Now it’s your turn to be the bad guys! “Some people hate the English. I don’t - they’re just wankers! We on the other hand are colonised by wankers!” (Trainspotting - another recommendation 🙂)

Duncan

The more that Costner movies are referenced, the closer we get to The Untouchables! Keep going! 😂

Christopher Young

I really enjoyed your commentary on this film; however, just to clarify, this movie is based on a very famous fictional book. I personally really enjoy the incredible scenery and epic soundtrack in this movie. Finally, also the game being played early in the movie by some of the Native American Indians & settlers was Lacrosse, this game originated from the Native American Indians

King Bob

it is worth noting in real life, those British commanders Both Munro and Webb were not English they were Scottish..... the movie is complete nonsense.

Duncan

Ha! And there I was thinking that being from Scotland two generations back would let me off the imperialistic hook. Not a chance, apparently! 😂

S_Vive

Yeah, the Col. Munro actor's accent was always hard to mistake for anything else, even when I first saw it upon release in my 20's. But on the whole the film has always remained one of my favs, with scenes, scenery, and sounds for decades slated in my mind.

tommy23

To be fair, so many Americans are confused by the different Indian tribes, and who is siding with who, so I wish you good luck. You've surprised me before so I can't wait to see you react to one of my favorites! Keep on rockin

Duncan

Yes, there was a land bridge between (what is now) Russia and (what is now) Alaska. Hence, migration. Lovely small world. It seems we’re all the same people, really!

Frozen Yak

Yep - this is still one of the best soundtracks in the history of film making. Chi is right - Hella's come a long way since she started this in terms of her innocence. (assuming that's what she's referencing... :D ). But I also think Chi has come a ways as well. Or perhaps she just 'came out of her shell' more.

Dualin

Very good, I enjoyed your reaction and comments, Thanks to all three of you!

Nathanial House

For more Daniel Day Lewis in historical roles, check out GANGS OF NEW YORK (also has Leo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz); THERE WILL BE BLOOD; and LINCOLN

Smiley

Actually it's called "Stickball" or in Choctaw "ishtaboli". It is similar in play to Lacrosse but much more rough and psychical. Like Rugby and American Football.

Henry N.

Sometimes for these darker films it might be worth lowering the lights in your room slightly, so you don't have to squint at certain scenes. The soundtrack for this film is so well done. Sometimes I'll listen to the Promontory theme when I don't feel like working out just to get myself motivated. There Will Be Blood is probably Daniel Day Lewis' most impressive role. I think if you liked the Godfather you may like that film as well.

Paul Rosenberger

Funniest line by Hella: while Magua and his men are walking through forest seen from behind just before the ambush "put some clothes on man..." After the French and Indian war the British increased pressure on the colonists to help pay for the cost of it. Which contributed to the tension in the colonies and Britain and eventually the Revolutionary War.

Alberto Ferreiro

Now that you have watched both Apocalypto and The last of the Mohicans let me suggest you another movie about the native american experience called The Mission, I think you guys will enjoy it.

RichieBIV

The people from the countryside have to retreat to the fort for protection, which is why you saw women and children there. I love this movie. Classic, and the soundtrack is badass. You all need to add more Michael Mann films to the watchlist, but again, let's finish the DiCaprio and Scorsese films; let's not deviate too far. 🍿📺

WOLFZLLA

I'd like to recommend, "The Ghost and the Darkness" (1996) It's a great story based on a famous real incident. I don't want to give away too much but it involves a man trying to rescue railroad workers, from two monstrous lions.

Kris Homeniuk

The tribes would change sides based on old grudges and how much consessions they could get. The french would loose this war and Canada to the english. This movie could also be seen as a prequel to the Patriot.

Kris Homeniuk

Little big man. Geronimo, Squanto

Saints_Madness

Havent seen that in forever. Excellent choice. I like the fact that you bare the cross on your chest, I serve the cross as well.

Smiley

For sure, that would be a great reaction for them.

piano

Chi I love watching your reactions. We're from the same village all around the world and you still remember that. I'm a native from Oklahoma an indigenous person from 2 villages. I love Vietnamese people we talked a lot quoc nyguen tieu. I knew a lot of those guys
