in america chocolates are under candy. also biscuits and cookies are vastly different here. but probably not in the way you're thinking. american biscuts are closer to scones. i also never fully learned how to ride a bike since i grew up out in the woods far enough where i'd have to have a car to get anywhere. last time i tried to learn i ended up running over myself with it. if the situations were reversed i'm not sure pheobe would buy ross the bike and that's why i don't see the vibes there. also betrothed isn't a common word. if he's only seen it written i can see how chandler would mispronounce it ross and monica are jewish. i'm pretty sure they're lapsed though we only see like maybe 30ish days in their lives every year. ross can spend lots of time with ben when we're not there. also child actors are WAAAAAAY more difficult to work with schedule wise because of child labor laws. google says it was cole sprouse

IcedQuokka

Wait what?? Americans don’t have tea biscuits ? Why a scone 😂😂😂 Awww omg hahha god that sounds painful!! Probably for the best you’re not riding bikes anymore 😂 Yeah true actually!! I think from my end I see phoebes love language as getting a rise out of people haha or goofing around together so that’s why I feel the vibes between them since she does it to him a lot True true! I just wish they didn’t give him the kid story line so early because I do kinda want him to commit to it fully but since it’s only ever 2 eps a season I don’t like the half commitment I guess

William Rosmer

I think we'd call them all cookies. And idk why a scones, but look up American biscuit and I think you'll see what I mean.

In America chocolate is candy. Chocolate bars are called candy bars, M&M's are Chocolate candy. Yes, thats Cole Sprouse Monica and Ross have always been half Jewish, on their Dad's side. I think since the show is about the Friends group, and not about kids we are just supposed to assume Ross spends most of his time with Ben off screen. We only see a fraction of their day to day lives. It is glaring when he's never even around for holidays. I do totally get where youre coming from regarding Ben though

Roman Blu

I think it's rare in the fandom to prefer the candy hearts episode to holiday armadillo! But given the characters that are your preference (Monica, Chandler and Phoebe I think?) not that surprising! The plotline where Rachel surprisingly ends up liking to play the drums and giant spiders always make me laugh. It's unexpected but also not THAT unexpected for a girl from a wealthy family who probably had the opportunity to try a lot of things out. As soon as I saw Rachel in the first ep I said 'IcedQuokka is going to comment on that hairstyle any minute'! And you are correct that Ben is a Sprouse!

my fav duo ross and phoebe!! i love that episode so much. was never a fan of rachel and tag. boss and assistant dynamic is icky to me.

mojo shivers

I like the Holiday Armadillo reveal, but these two episodes aren’t high up my list of favorites either. I don’t think they’re bad, but these wouldn’t be the ones I stop for in the middle of my day if I saw them in reruns on the tv. As for Ben, I think he gets neglects being shown a lot. But I feel like Ross mentions him quite a bit. It’s usually in passing and definitely isn’t a full storyline, but I think the writes do okay reminding us Ross takes care of his son on a part-time basis. But, yeah, they really should’ve shown him a bit more every year, especially they had him talking already.

I think you are vastly overstating these differences lol Ppl know what tea biscuits in the US r versus the KFC esque southern biscuits I think u r referring too. And also, while chocolate is considered candy... most ppl would think of hard candy first. I think its more of a technicality for grocery store sorting... and it depends on the kind of chocolate.

Shooting in live studio recordings with kids is difficult, especially with their limited work hours. And it doesnt really make for funny storylines imo. I can't can't think of a single very memorable Ben storyline. Doesnt fit with the vibe of the show and is really only connected to Ross... and not really the whole friend group.

I think Ben suits old era friends more like seasons 1 - 4 than the Friends that became in Season 5 if that makes sense. Like Season 5 really changed the vibes of friends in terms of humor and plotlines and stuff. Even the characters change. Like Ben is for Seasons 1 and 2 Ross, that shy nerdy guy, its not for Season 5 onwards crashout Ross.

IcedQuokka

Ahhh how random!! When I say candy I literally think of those rock hard lollies that shatter in your mouth lmao 😂😂 Yeah true !! Like obviously Ben wouldn’t be around when Ross is on dates and hanging out with the boys ect but if he was a main part of his life I would assume he would be with Monica a lot and of course at more holidays and stuff

IcedQuokka

Oh really!! You’re right tho I think it’s because I love Monica and chandler the most 😅🥰 Hahaaha right!! She totally suits those random hobby’s as well 😂😂 she just seems like someone who has lots of secret talents as well haha Yeah I don’t think I’m a fan of the super short bob 😭😭😭 I need the extensions back asap !!!

While I liked Rachel and Phoebe living together I prefer her living with Joey as I feel its from that point on that she really starts to develop. I think its because she was very reliant on Monica when she lived with Monica, she didn't really do much without Monica's help. She was more independent with Phoebe but there were still episodes about her dependence and her consumerism like the episode where Phoebe called her a pushover, the pottery barn episode, Rachel getting embarrassed by Phoebe's running etc. When she lives with Joey it really feels like she starts blossoming. She becomes a lot more independent and I think its because she's got nobody looking after her now, and in fact she's probably looking after Joey as he's a lot more childlike. I think its also because it coincides with her becoming a boss too. So all this development that we've been wanting from season 1 finally arrives. I think we kind of see it with her fashion too, the short hair, wearing more casual clothes, the sweatpants etc. When she cuts her her is the point she becomes a more different character IMO. A more silly and over the top one but a more independent and assertive one. Jennifer Aniston gets to show her humor a lot more. I think for me, while this season is definitely the Monica and Chandler season, Rachel is the standout for me and from this season on she's my fave character, at number one. She just has good episode after good episode and she provides the comedy this season like Chandler did in the earlier ones or Ross did in season 5.

IcedQuokka

Yesss!!! Ross and phoebe for the win 🥰🥰 they are one of the funniest/cutest duos

IcedQuokka

Soo true! Now that he’s older it makes me want to see him more but also not at the same time 🥲 just wish they never locked him into that story line at the start

IcedQuokka

Hmmm you might have a point actually ! Like the storyline suited him in that era but not really with the new different ross 🧐 maybe that’s why I’m not feeling it now ?? Idk

SidekickSteph

Don’t forget to buy the Friends cookbook 😊

Chris

I love that your first reaction at the start is Monica & Chandler focused. The show opens with Ben learning to ride a bike and you go "here is my Ted Talk on what this mean for Monica and Chandler's future." You're addicted to them! I love it. These are two weaker episodes overall with some fun moments. I love the Ross and Phoebe stuff and the Rachel and Phoebe stuff the most. I never really found the Holiday Armadillo funny. I also will miss Rachel and Phoebe as roommates. We got just a few episodes before the fire and they were so funny together. Feel better!

Oliver

I think Americans put chocolate in the candy category but not in Britain, like you said, just lollies and sweets really

Billy Bob

It depends on the chocolate. If it's like a butterfinger or a twix or a snickers or something like that, we see that as candy. If it's like a Hershey's bar or homemade fudge, that's more so chocolate, not candy. Also, yes Ben was played by the Sprouse twins. I'm guessing it was both of them but it might've just been 1. Kids can only work so many hours per day so them being twins helped as they could both play the same character. Not sure if that's what happened here or not though.

While I like and agree with some of your comment, I disagree that it’s only by this point that Rachel started to grow or “develop” lol. Yes, we do see in the early seasons that Rachel was very reliant on Monica, but it makes sense given that Monica is arguably the friend she is closest with and Monica was also the one that helped her out and gain some independence by letting her live with her. But I also think we got to see Monica rely on Rachel just as much (maybe not so much when it comes to household chores but still lol), especially at the end of season 2 and beginning of season 3—when Monica was jobless for a while and then she later had to take that diner job lol. I’d honestly say other than Chandler, Rachel’s character is the one that continues to grow/develop throughout all of the seasons and it is evident by the end of the series just how much they’ve changed (for the better). Probably why they’re my faves lol. I think next season is my fave with Rachel :)

I always felt like Ben seemed like a good idea back in S1 but now the writers are like "oh yeah that kid" lmao. Like you said it feels unnecessary to keep him around, but if he never shows up it implicitly makes us think of Ross as an absent father 😭

IcedQuokka

Oooo good take !! I see what you mean she’s definitely changing and becoming more mature !! Honestly I just like her living with Joey because they both get to be silly and immature together 😂😂 I love that that’s one of the things they bond over so much hahaha

IcedQuokka

Ahaahahah could not care less about Ben 😂😂😂😂 Honestly the armadillo episode felt like it was aimed at kids which makes no sense since it’s a show for adults lol 😭

IcedQuokka

Oh how interesting !! See I would say snickers and twix are at their core a chocolate so seems strange to put it in the candy category 😂 Can’t believe I guessed it right haha!

IcedQuokka

Lmao facts!!! hahaha ross just can’t win in this situation the writers did him so dirty 😭😂😂

Smokey

Ohh just wait for “give me your money punk"🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
