Fox Studies (Patreon)
Content
One of my plans for the new year is to start adding a bit more realism into my style, particularly in how I draw anthro faces. So, I'm trying to do a bunch more photo studies on animals I draw often! I ran a poll on Twitter to see what animal I should do studies of (after tiger cubs, for Farore's sake, natch) and foxes won by a nose, so they go first. Lions and (adult) tigers came in a close second so they'll be next!
I mostly did red fox studies here, since that's the most popular species, but I snuck in an arctic and a fennec fox at the end there. Fennecs are so fuckin' fun to draw. Lookit his little face, awwwh. I was surprised by how many different 'looks' red foxes have! Just the level of fluff alone varies wildly from individual to individual (and, I suspect, from region to region). I tried to avoid the VERY smooth-coated ones since that's not typically what people are after when they want an anthro fox. I don't think I'll be making much use of the turbo fluffy ones in commission work either - they don't have enough of a distinction between head/cheeks and neck fluff for the style of anthros I typically draw. Good to keep in mind if I get commissioned for a werefox or nonathro fox, though!
One thing I always need to remember when drawing canines is that their skulls are ovals, not circles. In the case of foxes, with how neotenic they often are, that can be a very tall oval, but the cranium is pretty much always longer front to back than top to bottom. It's easy to get sidetracked by the shape of a HUMAN cranium when drawing anthros, but I as I said I really want to get a more realistic look to the animal side of the anthros I draw, so I'll be trying to keep that difference in mind as I draw.
Feel free to color, ink, etc any of these, but show me if you do and don't forget to give credit!
What animal would you like to see me do studies of?
