Never mind!

Coalregion12

Outstanding how Shawn just told him straight about the Psychedelic Treatment.

Annette

Shawn, you are an invaluable resource for a change at the VA.

Daniel D Kearney

I am a 100% disabled veteran; My rating has seen a gradual increase over the last ten years as my conditions have worsened. For me even the civilian side waiting on treatments is lengthy; It is not the care I am concerned about. I will call clinics and treatment centers after I have been given approval by the VA through Community Care, wait times can be up to 6 months and even longer if you go through the VA.

Daniel D Kearney

The other issue I have seen, is waiting in line to be seen at an outpatient clinic. A new outpatient clinic opened up near where I live. I put in for it back 2011 and didn't get transferred until 9 months later in 2012. I was rated 60% at the time. I am not sure if this is still an issue or not, I have had other veterans tell me it is. Getting on a waiting list to be treated (9 Months), then waiting another 6 months after that to have the treatment.

Daniel D Kearney

There has to be accountability with many of these NGO's they partner with - is 90% going to administrative fees and 10% to the Veteran. I think a voucher system would be a better system, I believe. Voucher however could cause a increase in health care - if providers don't bid in the market place and instead put price agreements among health institutions.

Jenni Madden

I was cheering this man on as I watched. I'm in Canada but I am an American. You know what they offer people here? Including veterans, the elderly, those with chronic mental and physical problems (and they're talking about including children now)? MAID. Sounds nice. Know what it means? Medical Assistance In Dying. Know why? Because it is less costly than treating people and giving them what they need to heal. I listened to a podcast from a woman who served in the Canadian Forces and she was disabled as a result. They offered her MAID instead of giving her what she needed to make her life easier. This is Trudeau's legacy.

Blake persons

they’re moving claims faster. But the quality is just as bad if not worse.

Daniel D Kearney

Contracting with private healthcare may be cheaper. If contracting is more cost effective then building your own facility , hiring people, and then managing - it is not worth it - go with the contract. I have had two knee replacements - having it done with the VA would have taken me 18 months; I did it in 6 months with private contracting with VA Community Care.

I can tell you why there is a data collection issue. Who remembers the 2008 2009 memo that labeled returning veterans as a domestic terrorist threat that the Obama administration put out. Do you honestly think my husband will fill out a form and tell the VA what is going on because the next president will use it against you. We have to fight the VA for everything. But damn, are they quick to get an overpayment. Why can't we log on and say my husband has drill 3 days this month, so don't pay him for 3 days until waiting till the following year that says oh, you owe $14k.

Hank Martin

We say that our local VA is where you go to die. There is no healing there, only waiting for the inevitable.

Beverly

Had started watching Doug Collins on any interview clip because I loved his accent! And his blunt desire for honesty.

Kurt

Well, I listened. I wonder what the VA will look like in four years?

Jerry Parker

I have had bad experiences with community care lately.

Jerry Parker

During the 1st Gulf War the Unit I was in after the cease fire we pulled back from 73 Easting and provided security between Kuwait and Irak border where the oil wells had Bern lit on fire by Saadam and his Armies the smoke from the firing oil wells had the skies black 24 hrs a day. Our uniforms were reuined as some guys wore their mopp gear uniforms to keep from reuing the big cookie monsters we had been issued. I just think how many health probs were cause from area for those 12 days much less than the other probs from burn Pitts and the other exposures from that area

Kyle Howard

Doug avoided all of Shawn's questions and talked out his ass. And he has defended the VA this whole time saying it's a culture issue. No it's not. Why hasn't Doug addressed the fact that Shawn talked about how the VA dr's act like every veteran is faking injuries? Just completely ignored that. Hell my physical therapist tried telling me there is no such thing as arthritis in your bones. Then why does osteoarthritis exist? VA dr's are a fucking joke. He will not help the VA but only defend them and put blame on beurocrats and to RFK Jr for being head of HHS and Trump when he's the one in charge of the VA. Doug Collins is a joke.

Kyle Howard

Doug Collins talks in circles and constantly contradicts himself. He claims older vets like the VA but then says the younger generation of vets don't go to the VA because of visions of their parents. That makes ZERO sense. Younger generation of vets don't TRUST the VA from their OWN PERSONAL experiences you jackass.

GinaD

Experience with the VA in Wichita has been phenomenal for both my dad and me. From within the VA and the community care. I am confused as to him saying you can’t pull your med info…myhealthevet

Jake Briscoe

Dude talks in circles and can’t give a direct answer to save his life. I truly believe his heart is in the right place and his intentions are good… But hope and intentions cannot substitute a clear course of action or a plan. Hes better than what we’ve had. But I don’t have much hope he will achieve much. Wants to look like “the guy with all the answers” but if you look past the way he SOUNDS, and listen to what he actually SAYS, you see it’s all a facade for a lack of answers.

Coalregion12

Doug first and foremost is a POLITICIAN!! Ex-congressman. He has ZERO experience managing hospital administration

Nicholas Hunter

I didn't know you can talk for 2 hours and not say nothing at all he didn't answer any damn questions

John S.

Disappointing, I heard no plan. All I heard is how broken it is, problems without solutions, blaming the previous administration.

michael ramirez

I have been researching this topic for two years, pursuing my doctoral degree in education. I would love to talk to this guy! Just like many of us, I have witnessed too many mental health issues within the veteran community and have lost a lot of Marines. Did you know that half of the VA budget is discretionary? I would like to see where that money is going. Better yet, the VA strategic plan is four years, but our budget plan is yearly, so how do they align? TAP is another issue! If the VA wants to improve the "TRUST" factor, they must insert themselves and make the transition process more seamless. We should have VA reps at every military installation to support this idea and not just attend a one-day class. Another issue that has tarnished our trust is the 2014 VA data scandal, where they fudged numbers to make themselves look good concerning wait times. Let's not forget the orgy parties at the VA in Tennessee recently. The leadership staff should have lost their jobs and been made an example of! The first year of transition is known as the "Deadly GAP." When will we start giving warfighters fundamental tools like resiliency training or offering mentorship programs or sponsors to assist with the veteran transition? We keep putting band-aid strategies that are not sustainable in supporting our warfighters. It is a cost-saving plan that veterans would love to participate in or offer their free time to help. This dude needs to hire me! I would love to give him some more ideas! Trump needs to resurrect Executive Order 13822. This topic makes my blood boil. I hope you see my comment, Doug!

Eric Franks

I’m very fortunate my wife is a combat vet she didn’t do or see as much as me but she at least understands and I the same for her and that helps a lot but he’s right there are times I go to my appts and some of the people that work in the offices act like you pissed in their Cheerios personally with their attitudes and it’s putting off, and for some guys that one thing for some might be the water that breaks the camels back.

Bobby laverriere

He needs to talk to Peggy! She is clearly doing right by these Vets.

david nancarrow

The man just got the job and has inherited a mess beyond recognition. People who expect him to have the answers at this stage are talking out their asses. He is still digging into and trying to find answers. I'll give the man a chance but will be watching him closely.

Anthony

My rating is 0 for tinnitus and hearing. Over 20 yrs in the military but no hearing issues from it. Give me a break. And how do they do their math on ratings. I have 150% disability on paper but then they do their math and it comes out at 90%. Don't understand.

Jake

What happened to all the training videos via Vimeo?

Kevin

If you want to fix the VA immediately, make the senators and congressmen get THEIR healthcare mandatory through the VA!!!!

JP

I’m disappointed to hear about this but I think the private healthcare system is worse than the VA overall. The Pensacola FL VA is the best and I’ve had great experiences there. The private healthcare system is so terrible in Florida.

Sara Wheeler

Once again - Shawn shouting from the rooftops, clearly the best veteran advocate on the planet. God bless you Shawn Ryan!! Keep pounding. 🇺🇸 I'd never want to be on your shit list 💪🏻

Colonel James Marye

I’ve heard what the Secretary said, and I’ve heard it all before. Buzz words and phrases are culture, we’re trying new things, congress prohits it, and then blame the customer, “they’re none joiners.” I don’t care about the past and I don’t care what Biden did, he owns it now and the proof is in the pudding. I think the Secretary is an honorable and truthful man, but he has a horribly tough job and he’s only going to be able to eat the elephant one bite at a time and this type of changes takes time, and as you know, time is our enemy. I wish him the best, and will wait and watch. Good show.

Laurieweye

Thank you for all the informative interviews!

Jerry Parker

Actually we are supposed to tell people what to do nothing the other way around. He stated before he's in the purpose of making benefits better not taking away from Vets. I lean towards Republicans sometimes we will see

Lee Maddox

I would love to tell my story about the VA. They tried to say I was an alcoholic (I’m not), tried to put me in a VA run mental institution, Take away all of my rights, and got me basically Fired and black balled. Now I’m “retired” and have to come up with ways to make enough to make the ends meet. All of it started with the VA.

Dorene King

God! I have so much to say about this interview and how Shawn fearlessly handed Collins the solid truth. As a retired YNC and a former Claims Rater for the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) I could write a book. It's way too much for me to tell of my experience there in this comment section at this time. But I do want to plant a seed here though regarding Ibogaine and the associated psychodelics to treat veterans with PTSD. The "Right To Try" opens the opportunity for the VA to step up and out of it's current boundaries. Create a pathway for veterans suffering from PTSD to receive ibogaine voluntarily in Mexico. The VA must be free from any legal liability. They should pay for R/T transportation and hotel. Just my opinion. If I had the power Collins has I would make this my top priority. Thoughts?

James Reece

I feel like this is the right man for his position 👍🏻🇺🇸

Jerry Parker

My overall experience with the VA has been good, I fought for my rating I'm p & t now but I have been in a disagreement with my ratings incentives I applied for my benefits and rating. It was very low. I'm being slowly paralyzed not from MS either.

Ari Raag

i would like to think this fella is interested in helping the veterans and the VA. but. he talks more like a career politician with talking points prepared. how long will it take to see the work he has accomplished and its impacts? when will the work match what his mouth is saying?

Paul Plowman

As a physician, the whole VA system needs to be scrapped. Give the vets money to purchase their own private health insurance or put them back on the military health insurance. The rest of this is just bureaucratic bullshit.
