Hsiao Bi-khim | 蕭美琴 is Taiwan’s Vice President, sworn in on May 20, 2024, alongside President Lai Ching-te. A seasoned diplomat, she served as Taiwan’s de facto ambassador to the United States from 2020 to 2023, becoming the first Taiwanese official to attend a U.S. presidential inauguration since 1979 when she attended Joe Biden’s in 2021.

So all these Taiwanese tech people she mentioned who helped build the infrastructure surrounding chip building all got educated in the United States yet the left/tech billionaires want to keep making claims that we don’t have the capabilities or people here to make chips of our own…if we can educated other countries on how to do it then we can do it ourselves…no reason why we shouldn’t be making chips here in the USA

This interview and the one previous to it informed me, educated me and exponentially increased my awareness of the situation Taiwan finds itself in. I have you to thank for that. I’m 5 minutes into the interview and I just have to remark about how refreshing it is to listen to a person be able to articulate on a subject with specificity and competency when it comes to a highly technical subject like semiconductors. Especially when English isn’t their primary or even first language. The world laughs at incompetent women like Kamala Harris and we came within a razor’s edge of having that buffoon as our leader. If we had female representatives in this country that were as cogent and level headed as this woman, I’d consider voting for one, assuming our policies and views aligned. We have a few, but they are far outnumbered by women like Kamala, AOC, Maxine Waters, and so many others.

Great interview. We need to offer ROC a pathway to US migration and more rapid development in the US. Xi has said 2027 which isn’t too much longer. Unfortunately from a defense perspective China can keep hitting them until they are overwhelmed. Even if we get involved in direct intervention it is not going to be an easy battle and could grow. We have put way too many eggs in the Chinese basket.

China seems to be using the Russian approach to misinformation and cyber attacks to the Taiwanese people, it’s nice to see they are on to these methods and have systems in place to counter them, but as fast and evolving they are they need to be fast to respond to. ..The Swiss canal is a concern even from an American Egyptian perspective they put hurdles to everyone.

I just watched this interview again. One of the things I noticed and am most impressed about with Hsiao is: given the KMT's past authoritarian regime, and now they seem to be working against the interests of the Taiwanese people and aligning more with the interests of Beijing - Hsiao did not one time mention the KMT by name as this should be a bipartisan issue to keep Taiwanese people safe and strong as well as being prepared for all contingencies. The Taiwanese people are her main priority - not staying in power, not belittling the opposition party. You can tell she speaks from her heart and truly believes in the ideals of freedom, self determination and democracy. We need more leaders like this.

Just listened to both this interview and the previous one with Prince and Bethel. Bravo! Incredible insights as usual but for me, it's also personal and I want to explain why. My father was a diplomat for Taiwan, worked at the U.N. and his last post was the Dir of African Affairs . I lived in S. Africa and Lesotho back in the 80-90. Everything your guests (Erik's) talked about is spot on and 'debt-trap' in Africa and 'land-grab' in S China Sea has been China's strategy for decades. The world knows it but money talks and 1B people is just too irresistible to the Market World, that's why no Western media wanted to mess with a good thing. So thank you Shawn for having the righteousness, and brass balls, to use your platform to shine a bright light on this important issue. ps. for my dad, from beyond, I thank you. 🙏🏼 pps. As we all know China, Russia, Iran, North Korea are all allies. To defend Taiwan against China in an all out war would suggest we would have to be mindful of China’s allies. With that being said, I firmly believe the war games are being played strategically by the U.S. and the proof is precisely what happened as a result of Operation Midnight Hammer. Reducing capabilities is key, especially if there is anticipation of a bigger war/threat.
