Gavin Newsom, born in San Francisco, California, is the 40th Governor of California, serving since 2019. A Democrat, he was Lieutenant Governor (2011–2019) and San Francisco’s youngest mayor in a century (2004–2011), gaining national attention for issuing same-sex marriage licenses in 2004. Diagnosed with dyslexia at age five, Newsom graduated from Santa Clara University in 1989 with a BS in Political Science. 

He founded PlumpJack Group in 1992, growing it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise with wineries, restaurants, and hotels. Newsom survived a 2021 recall election and was reelected in 2022 with 59% of the vote. 

He authored Citizenville (2013), advocating digital governance, and has hosted the podcast This is Gavin Newsom since 2025. Newsom champions progressive policies.

Although I don’t see any problem with having someone like Gavin on to discuss differences, I’m a little disappointed you didn’t press him on some of the very obvious lies he spit out. No reason you can’t press him on his lies while still having a respectful conversation. I was born and raised in California until 2003, and I lived there a second time from 2009-2011. It is an absolute shame what has happened to that state; I personally would never live there again. With that said, I will keep an open mind about this. I will say, however, that I am not a fan of this guy, his politics, or the party he belongs to, and I don't think he is a good human being. We'll see if my opinions change at all after this interview.

I will agree with Newsom as an ER nurse during the entire time of COVID, people who were vaccinated vs people who weren’t did have les symptoms or milder symptoms than those who weren’t vaccinated…people who weren’t vaccinated tended to be admitted into the hospital because of worse respiratory symptoms and even died…I didn’t encourage people to get vaccinated but I also didn’t bash them for not being vaccinated…everyone has free will so you have the right to choose

Newsom was on television when he mandated our children had to be vaccinated with the COVID vaccine to return to school. He was asked if his kids were vaccinated. His oldest is the same age as my son, and Newsom announced no, his kids were behind in their vaccinations. His kid would have been 12 years old. There were no more vaccines for the kids by this age. Bottom line, as usual, he lied. He doesn't vaccinate his kids!!! Just like, it was seen on television, Newsom dropping his kids off at school without masks, while the rest of our children were at home on zoom. Our kids were wearing masks. When I called it quits on this podcast? When you ask if he is running for President, since he was in South Carolina holding a rally, and Newsom says no! He said he won't run unless Trump causes him to run, but ruining America. Well, that is it, if that doesn't demonstrate what a liar Newsom is, I don't know what does. That guy can taste the Oval Office!!! This is disappointing. You should have held his feet to the fire and made him tell the truth!!!

On the Homicides involving a gun, Ca has 4.3 per 100,000 people (age adjusted which isn't explained) Idaho who is one of the most 2A affirmative states is at a 1.8 per 100,000. Maybe we should look state to state as far as gun laws not Red vs Blue (which he was critizing how bad using Red vs Blue is until it supports his narrative, or supporting his "TRUTH.") As prior volunteer firefighter, there is no ranking or sound forest management of no forest out here, that’s a bold face lie. Prior to around 2008-2010, there was never this many fires like there has been since then, and this intensity. He is not managing the forest and neither is the federal government! Thank you Shawn for doing this interview. I don't trust Newsome at all, however, I think it is 100% important to listen to everyone from all walks of life. There are ALWAYS three sides to every story, Yours, Theirs and the TRUTH typically lies in the middle somewhere. The important thing about doing interviews like this and listening to the entire thing is maybe just one sentence, or one body movement or phrasing may help someone form a different opinion, do some research, or just view things a little bit more openly. We don't have to all agree, however, I can respect someone else's views. I think to me it is telling Newsome felt compelled to say GD every other word. Perhaps that is just part of his vocabulary, however, it becomes annoying, ineffective and really, not becoming. I cuss like a sailor and use the F-bomb more than I should, as a Christian, rarely I use GD, however, there are circumstances where I could see it is warranted. He is just a bit much and it made me feel as if he was trying to hard to fit into some kind of box with your audience. Just my opinion.

Gavin Newsom's only Gun legislation he allowed the voters of California to vote on was prop 63, Back in 2016, almost 10 years ago, then used that as a platform to force other gun laws without voter approval, through the state legislature. And saying overwhelming support, it was far from the case. Prop 63 did get 62.3% of the vote to 37.7% with 870 thousand plus votes thrown out and well over 4 million voters didn't vote on prop 63. Shame on the voters. Gavin Newsom and the state legislature come up with just about anything they can think of to inhibit gun owners. They enact their laws and make us sue the state while there laws remain in place knowing it may take years of litigation to end them. Meanwhile the people of California suffer. We don't get to vote about the new gas taxes either. They send out these ridiculous surveys that try to get you to agree with their reasons for raising taxes. Shouldn't bills be deemed constitutional before they can become law! Fight over it before they can actually be signed into law? So many comments about the properness, the the goodness and the importance of being a platform that is unafraid, and committed to offering its audience interviews with people who-- have made an impact, have a following, have created, have power, have a story to tell--regardless of how controversial they may be. After all, who isn't controversial now days? But this America, and even though we differ in our opinions we prize our freedoms above all, so let's watch it, let's hear it and we'll each of us make up our own mind. Television news has that same position. It's news from news maker's so we will show it, we'll run it, and sure we'll comment and analyize, but our audience will decide. This kind of thinking makes sense. For one thing it's pragmatic. In others words it works. It's the best way to be informative and respectful to a broad audience. But let me ask this. Are there any lines to be drawn at all? Is it proper to do an in-depth interview with the Head Hospital Administrator so she can inform why doing sex change surgeries on young children is, in fact, a good thing? Should we bring on and have a discussion with one of the Taliban combatants who fought many battles against American's so that we could get his side of the story? Perhaps, it is time to start giving voice to those who honestly and deeply hate Christianity and most Christians. Where are they coming from? What's their thinking? After all, anyone who's aware already knows that America and the whole world for that matter is very close fo a cataclysm with Christians, right. Sounds like news to me. The possible examples in this refrain are endless aren't they? The Bible uses the word "world" in various ways. One of those ways is as a reference to anything that is not of the kingdom of God. May I offer a truth? Those who are not in Christ have no other options, they must use "worldly" truth and widom in every single circumstance, situation, decision, philosophy, belief and thought that they have or are exposed to because the worldly way is all they have. Christians on the other hand, those who truly posess the Spirit of Christ in them can rely on the truth and wisdom of God to guide them. At its core, this explosion about the GN interview, in my opinion, is about the current ability of America to understand what evil truly is, or lack thereof. This question is brought to us by a remarkable man whom we have embraced. He has gained our utmost respect. A man who publicaly declared his faith in Christ fo us. A man committed to truth. A man of service, a man of honor, a man who so obviously has been given gifts from God that enrich us when we see him so humbly employ them in his work. And yet that same man has now brought on his show a guest who repeatedly used the words GD and not one single thing was said to confront it. Being in the firearm industry his data on gun violence and gun deaths is so skewed because of where he cherry picks his data. Gavin classifies “children” by the Center for Disease Control Standard of ages 1 to 24. If you scale back the age to even just 18years old The death rate drops dramatically. If you take the urban crime data then his case for childhood suicides drops to negligible. When you asked Gavin Newsome about retail theft being able to steal up to $950 before it becomes a felony, he just completed dodged the question and compared it to Texas' ($2500) to make it "look bad." Then how the hell did California have a higher retail theft crime rate than Texas back in 2022? I really like the dialogue as far as trying to fix the immigration problem. Deporting people probably isn’t the answer. I think of companies with the self check out aisle like Walmart you go in you can scan get your receipt and check out. We have all these technologies to do stuff like this, but for some reason, we can’t figure out how to do it for citizenship or naturalization. Shawn, I may not be one of your first Patreon subscribers, but I’ve watched your show since about episode #15-16, and since then, part of my nightly routine is checking for a new episode each night to stay up to date. I love your show. I love what you’ve done with your business, and your podcast, and how you’ve grown it into something special, that a lot of people listen to, so I respect when you’re willing to bring on guests that may have opposing views and different beliefs, because as a democracy, we HAVE to be willing to hear out the ones that we disagree with. We have to. It’s what makes America the beacon of freedom she is, not silencing those that disagree with us. But that does NOT mean you should not challenge someone when they say something that is false, misleading, or downright manipulative (for instance his careful use of the word “deaths”, instead of the word “violence”- imperceptible to a lot of people in the moment, it seems even you didn’t pick up on that when he was misleading you). As I’m sure you’re aware, lots of people don’t take the time to fact check things, lots of people don’t take the time to verify what someone says, or just take whatever someone says as the truth, simply because they give off some of the right types of body language, and are very careful with their wording, similar to what a lot of narcissists or sociopaths do in order to get people to agree with what they’re saying easier. If you’re going to give people a platform to speak through your show to your audience, YOU have to be the one to come PREPARED. YOU have to be the one that calls someone out when they spew false information, or are misleading with their words. After a couple hundred episodes, I would’ve thought by now you would at LEAST come prepared with some printed out facts from reputable sources, perhaps in the same folder you always have that printed up introduction for your guest each time you sit down for a talk on your show. You don’t have to whip out your list of facts and be a dick about it, and be like “NO SEE RIGHT HERE, I HAVE A PIECE OF PAPER THAT SAYS YOURE LYING!” When someone says something that is not true, but you very easily could take a couple seconds when you might be unsure about what someone is saying, and reference your notes and cross check what they’re saying with some facts about the topic. But that’s old school. It’s messy. In this day and age of quick cuts, and short attention spans, why haven’t you had a small earpiece in, that you could hear your film crew in, and have someone from your team in the background fact checking your guests in real time? I’m not saying fact checking the vets that come in there and tell their heart wrenching stories about combat, but when an influential person drops a statistic or references some sort of data/numbers, especially about a topic you’re not an expert in, what’s the harm in doing your due diligence as a creator, and fact checking them in real time, on the spot? With all due respect Shawn, as much as it pains me to say this, newsom misled the shit out of you, and you seemed to eat that shit up. That was very disappointing. Your audience deserves better. CNN has no problem “fact checking”, and neither do any of the other MSM, while most on this platform would agree that we know their “fact checking” is usually biased in a lot of ways, but so what? Yours doesn’t have to be partisan whatsoever. The truth is the truth. People like Gavin newsom have LITERALLY TRAINED THEIR ENTIRE CAREERS ON HOW TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR SPEECHES, TALKS, FUNDRAISERS, AND EVERY SINGLE PUBLIC APPEARANCE THEY MAKE. Just as you trained for a very long time, and became a very skilled, very capable person ready for combat, so did people like newsom. Only difference is, his training was on how to sway public opinion, how to win people over, how to win votes, and how to gain someone’s trust, while your training was more combat-oriented. As much as I can’t stand newsom, I gotta give him credit where credit is due, he’s good at what he does. Hes a master at speaking to others. Albeit a snake, he’s still very good at what he does. You didn’t come prepared in this interview to be able to see through the bullshit. Please do better next time. Whether you like it or not, your audience has grown to very large numbers, and that comes with a certain amount of responsibility on you to be the bullshit sifter. With people not able to trust or believe most of what the MSM says anymore, whether you like it or not, platforms like yours are where a very large number of Americans are turning to get their information, because they can relate more with a man like you. You’re trustworthy. You’re not some weasel in a fancy suit that’s being controlled by someone else. Don’t let your credibility be questioned in the future because you failed to do your due diligence and call out BS when people try and push falsehoods on your program. That’s your responsibility and your responsibility alone. Again Shawn, I’m a huge fan, and I love your show, and what you’ve created, and you will forever have my respect for everything you’ve done for your country. Just thought some constructive feedback/criticism from a longtime fan might be helpful, if you ever have the time to read this of course. Appreciate you!

Bravo Shawn. The episode was outstanding, it is so refreshing to see you and your platform are not just an echo chamber where all we hear is what we agree with. I read some of the comments and people seem to be having such a hard time with the fact you didn't get into a screaming match with the Governor, or call him a liar, but those people should realize, that kind of gotcha behavior is why both sides can't come together and talk these days. There is nothing wrong with just providing a platform for various viewpoints to be expressed, and then let the discussion grow amongst the viewers. And for some context, I listened to the first parts on my way to and from my 25 acres I bought just to shoot, so I'm very much down with the cause when it comes to gun rights. And after I finished running drills with my Daniel Defense MK18 SBR, I very much enjoyed your and Gavin's discussion. Keep up the good work brother.

So he is a good talker, some of the things he said are contrary to what I thought, I need to do some fact checking! He introduced himself as a west coast "elite", which makes me suspicious of him to start with. Then he says as a "fact" that we are going to have another pandemic which makes me also distrust him, if he said "what if" or something else it wouldn't seem like he had some inside plandemic connection. Then he starts discrediting RFK Jr and saying he (Newsom) has been leading the health movement....I don't know...he also has the "come on man" Biden habit which I just hate.
