I love this show- so excited to see your take on it! One of the few C Dramas I’ve watched that I felt was consistently good start to finish. Genuinely love the leads in this and whoever directed and shot must be given mad props for how beautiful it looks and how well they captured all the characters

Something I wanted to say, majority of the c-dramas I have watched have this kind of cinematography and beautiful bgm. Of course, some of them have low budget sometimes but generally we can ignore bad cgi because of the stories and characters XD

I would have never expected a cdrama around here tbh, glad you are digging it so far. After Alchemy of Souls let me down, I went on a cdrama binge and found that shows like Pursuit of Jade were more of what I was hoping for from something like AoS. I do agree with everyone else that you can go at your own pace with this, cdramas are a heavy time commitment so I'm not concerned with a constant schedule or even finishing it tbh. It's only fun if the reactor is having fun after all. Also yes, it's a very pretty show with very pretty leads, the director knew exactly what he was doing.

For sibling/terms technically you don’t need to double it. Older sister + brother are jie/ge, and younger are mei/di. Doubling is a bit of a colloquial habit that really depends on personal habit or preference. Ning uses “a jie”. The “a/ah” is another colloquial diminutive that’s mostly used in historical/period dramas bc it’s more like “old sounding”

You can often spot a likely S+ production quite early on. Aside from the cinematography, things like homepage banners, in-app opening placement, and heavier promotion are usually good indicators. This one definitely feels like it sits towards the higher end. A lot of that also comes down to where and how these shows are filmed. Most historical dramas are filmed in Hengdian World Studios, which is one of the largest film and TV production complexes in the world. It has full-scale replicas of historical sites like the Forbidden City and Qin palaces, and also functions as a major tourist destination. Interestingly, there are even occasional opportunities for visitors to register as extras and take part in productions, depending on casting needs, which is quite fun.
